    Great video. We have been doing push ups on our fists lately. Now I understand why. We also do sit ups and punch the wall lightly. I am glad I found your station, after you said one time, Don’t shy away from sparing, my sparing has improved immensely. Thank you for these well produced lessons and videos. đŸ„‹

    Thanks! I have been training in-between my 1d and 3d to improve my synchronicity in the second way you described (foot, then knee, then hip, then arm), but I'll gladly try out the first way (i.e. your way) to see what I can learn from it.
    Also, a suggestion for a future video: rotating on heel (Shotokan-like, "nige", 逃げる) vs. rotating on ball of foot (Goju-like) -- for me, having trained 15 years of Shotokan and now 10 years of Goju, this is a very rewarding difference in terms of fluidity and delivering power.

    Of course, I agree with what you are teaching. I would like to add, as I've studied the Joe Lewis Fighting System, that a pulled punch is more powerful than a pushed punch because of the added torque. Examples are the overhand and hook. Since you mentioned what I call independent motion, or others weapon first punching. I do that with a step forward for maximum power. If you are close to the opponent, your way is better. If you are further from the opponent my way gives you more distance with the punch.

    Also, pull back the other hand as hard as you can as it will help to accelerate your punch into the target.

    I add something:
    I dont know what is your opinion about this but Im strong believer that you should never punch with your elbow going into locking position. I say this here since this video is about speed/power punching and Ive seen even some sensei's teaching people to lock their elbow straight when punching and was pretty amused that he didnt know about this. So if some one doesnt know this, and most beginners dont seem to know, its good to learnt right from the beginning not to hit your arm straight to elbow lock.
    1. Doing multiple fast/hard punches with straight elbow is very likely to destroy your elbow, its basically a bone vs bone situation when you lock your elbow and they will destroy, espcially os humerus. I dont think its possible to get back that destroyed elbow if it has gone so far. Thats why this is so important topic.
    2. You can pull your hand back faster when you dont lock the elbow.
    3. When you pull your hand back faster (and dont continue hitting trough the target too far) it is going to cause more damage especially to the head. This was studied for the Israel army. Pulling hand faster back causes bigger movement in the brain causing DAI (diffuse axonal injury) causing brain damage and most likely KO. Of course this was study for killing in close combat and you dont want to use deadly force in self defense situation except maybe in extreme situations like terrorist knife/gun attacker.
    4. You not going to get any more (meaningful) distance by locking your elbow. You just destroy your elbow in the long run.

    • @jkgardiner
      @jkgardiner  Pƙed 26 dny +1

      Yes I agree, the impact should be made with a bent elbow, and punching in the air there should be a contraction just before full extension to prevent that locked out elbow

    To be brief! The power comes from the ground! Think of your leg as a telephone pole! Power comes out! Not from the upper body! A good test is set up for a strike! Have someone walk behind you and step on your calf! If it breaks? You are not setup properly! Heal must be down. Power doesn’t come the front of the foot!Double hit motion is old technique! Shows a gap! The hip should be engaged at all times either showing it!
    Look up Kimura Shukokai!
    Sensei George from Finland explains the moves perfectly!

      Also incorporate circles in the motion! It isn’t just a straight punch! It has a small circle motion in the movement! Like a whip! The power coming out from the legs through the punch! Hard knuckles doesn’t make the punch hard! Even though it’s a good exercise to build up your wrist!
      The power is all from the ground like a tree? The strongest part of a tree? The trunk isn’t the strongest part! It’s the roots! Keep that heal down!

    • @jkgardiner
      @jkgardiner  Pƙed 26 dny +1

      @@Trump-all-the-way you are saying the same things I said in the video.
      With the heel down, a boxer doesn’t punch with the heel down but they have the best punches of all, so what does keeping the heel down add that a boxer doesn’t need?

      @@harshaltheboss just martial arts, the best way to get fit for an activity is to do that activity.. I’ve done sprints and longer runs but in the end hitting pads, sparring etc is better in my opinion.

    When I punch I move from a 50/50 stance to a 60/40 stance, therby having weight going into the punch. At least that is my thought. Pros and cons with that?

    • @jkgardiner
      @jkgardiner  Pƙed 26 dny +1

      Yes transitioning your weight forward is good, that’s the idea behind the front stance in karate.
