I was a few miles from the blast. Even there the building shuddered. My parents were downtown for a doctor's appointment and I - being in elementary school - had no way to reach them back then. It was a horrible couple of hours until I knew they were fine.
Years later, I was touring the OK State Capitol building and was shown a quilt that had been made of stitched sections contributed by each of the 50 states in support of OK. It took up an entire wall and was magnificent.

I was working in Irving, TX that day, and I learned about the explosion from my employer’s central alarm station - one of our unused building’s alarms was tripped by the blast - the location was in Yukon, OK. What I remember most about driving home to OKC that afternoon around 3:00 p.m. - EVERY southbound vehicle on I-35 had their headlights on. (In 1995, daytime running lights were few and far between). It seemed like a four hour funeral procession heading south from OKC. I wept like a baby all the way home and hugged my wife and kids like I never had before.

I was in OKC that day in 1995 on business, but not when McVey's bomb went off. Traveled from Tulsa that morning around 9 a.m. CST. On the way we saw quite lot of cop cars on I-44 which was a bit unusual. When we got to our destination, we were told that OKC closed all of their schools down and the entire city was in lock-down status. A panic situation..."bombs going off everywhere" as I recall being literally told. Looking back, it was a knee-jerk reaction response, and I now see how mis-information can easily be spread quickly.
