How Using The "Prepare Crate" Makes Your DJ Sets Better

  • The prepare crate is a feature that made a huge impact on the way I DJ once I wrapped my head around how to use it. It can help you mix faster, help you have a more overall cohesive set, and help you have a less cluttered DJ library. It’s a feature that most DJ software has but many DJs rarely use it or even know about it at all. So let's take a look at what the prepare crate is and why you should be using it.

    This is really useful, thanks! I am usually sweating when there's 45 seconds left on a track and I'm *still* deciding on the next track. This Helps A LOT with that scenario!

    OMG this is so helpful! I started learning to DJ in March and had not used this feature because I kept getting a message that I did not have enough room in the panel.
    I figured out the panel issue and the prepare feature will make a MAJOR difference for me grouping songs to avoid another darn playlist!

    I couldn't do without, be it remembering requests and what songs to get in or out of them or that on gig inspiration you want to also remember. Hugely important. I do think Djay Pro2 is better with its folder, it Mark's the tracks as played but it's still there which makes it a sort of quick reference instead of going to history that has more to browse through. It also allows me to drop those songs into crates to organize library if need. Either system or others it's a huge tool that makes you better.

    And you continue to help me greatly!!! Nice job bro! Yea, I just didnt really understand what a prepare crate really was... but now that you lined it out the way you did... oh my god. Yeah...greatest feature ever!! Im also open format and like an old oof ive been writing down any accepted requests and things like that. I always have my 3rd song ready to go but in the most complicated way...now I can have different groups of songs ready to go instantly? Yup...you changed my life tonight! Man, thank you so much!!! I like open format and freestyle DJing. I am a sporatic person. So being able to use this prepare crate is so totally what Ive been searching for. Im the dumb noob that has tons of playlists and then a few kind of main playlists which contain 1k-5k songs lol. But now I can pick through my smaller playlists and really make it easier to cherry pick. As a quick last minute planner, but efficiently so... this is the most exciting thing I have learned since I started lol!

    Been using the Prepare crate for many years now..I like using it mainly for preparing my set's or mini set's before gigs...But during the gig I typically use it for requests or like you said..a "Brain Dump" when I think of a certain track and I won't use it just yet I will drop it in the Prepare area...One thing I did start using is the CMD+P lately..for years I use to just drag it in there..but now that I'm spinning Video..the ME windows go over the prpare spot..so It's easier to use the command + P. Great Video!

    I use it for requests as a multi-genre DJ it's very easy to get lost with loads of requests. Also looking at the dance floor a song will pop in my head for later to play and if I don't put it in the prepared section there and then I'll forget it in 30 seconds lol. So it's a good feature for me anyway. Nice vid though 😎👍🏾

      Exactly Jay! For requests and songs you want to play later, but not yet. So perfect. For open format DJs...honestly...most premade sets become more work then they used to be worth...now you can create that playlist as you go through the night. For open format, small club. Event, etc... im a noob to being a DJ... but ive been around the music block so most of it makes sense to me already lol. My main struggle was figuring out music organization. This feature is a big life changer for me. Im a quick thinker. And this buys me just the time I need to open my DJ wings.

I list the tracks that people request in the order of the sign up sheet and go from there. • @d.s.6268
    @d.s.6268 Před 3 lety +4

    Nice video, thanks - but I strongly disagree about the single use playlists. It is extremely useful to create those for every event you need to and save them. You will often get new customers who tell you they've seen you on this specific date, in that specific venue, in the wedding of this specific couple, and they "loved the music and want a wedding just like that or very similar" - what can be better than just going into a virtual file that contains all of your past events and playlists and just accessing the exact same event that new customer saw you DJ at ? It will not only make your job much easier, but might even improve the sale chances. Also, what if the same people/club/event invite you over again a year later to DJ ? What could be more important than looking at the specific playlist you played on that specific event - since you know that style and those selections were apparently successful for that specific event or that specific crowd ? Why would you deny yourself this super important tool ? Bottom line, since creating that one time playlist takes exactly the same "effort" as creating a one time "prepare" file - it's far better to make and keep the single use playlist. You will never regret doing that, while in many cases you're going to regret not doing it and wish that you had taken advantage of this fantastic tool of being able to easily save single use playlists.

    • @digitaldjtips

      @@digitaldjtips I'm not even sure it is a personal preference - if you keep your single use playlists it's absolutely going to pay off on some occasions in the future for the reasons I stated( can argue about how many times I guess). Personally, I have no idea how this is even a debate, but yes - it is my "personal" opinion lol.

      @@djdezdavis Thank you, appreciate it. Yeah I just have a crate named "past playlists" where I drop every "single use playlist" I use, so there's really no downside to this. All it ends up being is this one crate and at least for me, on several occasions it really paid off having access to some of those past lists. You wouldn't believe how happy customers who found me through a specific event they attended were when I told them I have the entire playlist of that specific event available for us as reference. @nickloss2377 Před rokem

      @@jmoak311 there is no "agree to disagree" here. it's not an opinion. it's how the software works. you're just using it wrong. instant doubles just means your moving the track currently being played ('on air') from one deck to the other. so you are still playing the same track. why would it not be removed from the prepare crate? that's the entire purpose of the prepare crate. You play a track from the prepare crate, it disappears from the prepare crate. Whether or not you use instant doubles is not a factor. Track was played, therefore it gets removed..
      why would you even want to play the same track more than once during the same performance? but if that's something that you do regularly, then just create a regular empty crate. Cuz you're using the prepare crate incorrectly..
