- NTS-1: How to Load Custom User Oscillators and Effects!
Today I'm demonstrating how easy it is to upload custom user oscillators and effects to the Korg NTS-1. All you need is a micro usb to type a cable and a little time. Be sure to give some love to Hammondeggs Music as well as Tweeeeeak! for their awesome creations. Enjoy!

I think CZcams needs more videos that talk about the NTS-1 custom downloads. There aren't that many free ones, but enough to warrant talking about. Thanks for making this and I look forward to more like this!
How much are they to buy?
i couldn't connect to the nts-1, until i installed korgs midi driver which i found out about after i read the korg librarian manual. now it all works :)
Awesome!
Cool tips, still really tempt to get myself one for Christmas. Plus I like the idea of having a go at programming your own sound.
Finally got one and it's way too good. Ive had a random arp on repeat for over an hour. I just cant get over how good it sounds. Thanks for the vid. Looking forward to expanding the sound possibilities.
That's fantastic!
Thanks so much. That "Cathedral Reverb" sound is straight out of the 1980s classic movie - BladeRunner. This thing is a must have on the NTS-1. Thank you!
It sure is, incredible sound!
This is a very helpful video. It looks easy to do too. I've had my NTS-1 for a few months now and keep meaning to download extra stuff for it but never get round to it. I intend to do it this weekend after seeing this. It looks a lot more straightforward than I'd imagined.
Glad you found the video helpful! It's basically just drag and drop once you have the software set up, super easy. Thanks for watching!
Another very informative and well structured vid. Well done.
Thanks so much!
Thanks! Very sick bass capabilities! Now my NTS-1 is a BEAST ! And I thought it was crazy out the box...
Thanks again for the great vid!
It IS crazy out of the box, this puts into the insane category! Happy jamming, thanks for watching!
Thanks so much for creating this video! I received my NTS-1 last Friday, but haven't had a chance to get it out of the box and put it together, but will this weekend. I knew you were going to be presenting this, which is a big reason I went ahead and bought the NTS-1, as I was unsure how to load the custom oscillators and effects. So I sincerely thank you for doing this. I'll get it going. Thanks again. 🙏🙏🙏
Not a problem at all :) Glad I could help push you over the edge on the NTS-1, it really is an incredible little instrument! Let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for watching!
Very useful and easy! Thank you!
Thanks for watching :)
Thanks! Can't wait to try it. 💪
Thanks for watching!
Jus bought an nts one today and i lov u
Just got my NTS-1 yesterday after eyeing it for an entire year and I friggin looooove this thing. It's worth it for the FX alone, but the synth is incredible as well. Thanks for highlighting the Volca Bass OSC as that thing is poooowerful. You should totally do a full video on that OSC if you haven't yet.
I need to learn it better first haha. Thanks for watching!
@@FreeBeat of course man. I've been watching for a while. I just saw that the guy that made the volca bass oscillator also made a probability sequencer for the NTS-1..sort of like what the OP-Z has. It looks pretty awesome.
Thanks you for yours advicesThis is a very helpful video.
Glad I could help, thank you so much for watching!
I just got an NTS-1 and then off a guy a volca keys this will be cool to add more stuff Tutorial was great man 👏👏👏👏
That's awesome!
This might be the video that helps me fill in all the blanks. Thx Free Beat! J
Glad to help, thanks for watching!
❤❤❤
Thats cool thank you!
Thanks for the video! Really helpful! I know what to do this week-end ha ha.
Haha go nuts!
Great work on this tutorial. I hope that I can use this if I get a unit.
I hope you can get one as well, I'm interested in what you'd make with it!
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
legend thanks for this
If you are having problems with Windows 10 not recognizing the NTS-1, this video explains how to fix czcams.com/video/mc4ANEadZkQ/video.html
Thank you. Very appreciate
Thanks so much!
Thank you!!
Thank YOU!
You'r the man!
No YOU are! But thanks :)
Great thanks I use put my together
Can you install more than one custom oscillator?
Also can you have more custom delays, reverbs etc installed or is there a memory limit?
Thanks because I'd like to buy one at some point.
Ride on, Howard, shiny and chrome
FB, I know nothing about making music, but your videos and enthusiasm pushed me to go out on a limb and try something new. I got the Speak and NTS 1 and have had a blast. So I decided to try downloading new oscillators and effects for the NTS 1, but when I downloaded Librarian and opened it up, the Font was in Aubresh and I cannot for the life of me figure out why or fix it. I tried deleting and redownloading, but I get the same result. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks a lot for your videos and keep up the good work!
So glad you decided to take the leap into electronic music! Unfortunately I have no clue how to change the language on the librarian, hopefully someone else can chime in. Sorry!
@@FreeBeat What do I need to get started I don't have this yet but have a gecho and mix tape. How do I power this for cheap?
What is the usb hub that you plugged the korg device into, the brand and where you got it?
I can't remember exactly, as I haven't had it for a while now, but I think it was something like this amzn.to/3Mle5TM
cant drag the cathedral_xd into the user reverbs :( The bass osc went fine
Is it possible to copy plugs in from a Korg NTS1 as ive lost the orginal and would like to put a copy on another NTS1 thanks
I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, sorry. You can simply connect a different nts-one and install the same user content on it if you'd like.
thank you for this video!
I got an issue with the NTS-1 Librarian: it told me to also install the Korg MIDI Driver, which I did. I got a message that it may not work properly if I don't install the driver. After that, by running the NTS-1 Librarian it can't connect to the device at all, though it's plugged in and switched on.. should I deinstall the driver and try it without? I'm just wondering why it can't connect.. :/
same issue here
Do these additional oscillators and effects overwrite any of the standard features or are they saved in extra on board memory? Thanks for a really useful tutorial.
They're saved in extra onboard memory as far as I can tell. Thanks for watching!
Can you explain the arpeggiator on a video, for rookies like me? Thank you
I certainly can, thanks for the suggestion!
@@FreeBeat Great!! Thank u
Are there any extra delays to add into my NTS1?
Yes there are :) Just do some searching around and you can find quite a few!
I could put the volca bass on my nts1 but i dont understand why the reverb doesnt want to go in as well. when i bring it in the librarian it make a cross and impossible to use it. anyone got an idean why? thaks!!!
Which reverb are you trying to add? Some user content isn't completely compatible with the NTS-1 I believe.
@@FreeBeat i wanted the cathedral one
Can you use a Mac?
I'm getting an error with the cathedral_xd file when dropping in reverb tab of Librarian. and also all the others in zip.
I ignored API error and loaded to NTS-1 fine
Good to hear, I would have been stumped lol
Hi FreeBeat
I’m having problems loading the Librarian. I’m hoping you or other others might have ideas.
When I start the librarian software I get a error saying “code execution cannot proceed because files are missing. “MSVCP140.dll and VCRUNTIME140.dll”
I’ve deleted and re-downloaded and installed program several time with same result. What’s puzzling is the MIDI Utility and the NTS1 programs all seem to work.
My computer has these files. I checked. It’s a Windows 10 pro fully updated. Windows 8.1 computer says it can’t find the NTS1.
I’m using the cable shipped with NTS1. It is a USB micro Type B that’s what user manual says to use.
Sweetwater couldn’t get help from Korg.
I’m kinda out of ideas. On a positive note I just successfully made a MIDI to TRS cable to connect my Keystep 37 to the NTS1. (NOTE Korg and Arturia use opposite wiring for pins 4 & 5)
If you haven't solved this problem yet.... I've come across a CZcams video of someone saying they've solved this problem. I can't remember the title. I know it's not much but it's a lead in the right direction.
@@TheRealPhilHoward
I have not solved yet, got frustrated and stopped using NTS-1. I think I found the video you mentioned. Search “Korg nts 1 danbo” to find a video that is supposed to fix this problem. I will attempt this later today and report back
@@Vintage35MM sorry to hear! I just picked it up and it's definitely an amazing little synth for what it does out of the box. I've been watching tons of custom patch videos and I'm so stoked about it.
The video I was referencing was posted below in the comments. I hope it helps!
czcams.com/video/mc4ANEadZkQ/video.html
Hmm it doesn't work on my nts 1. When i plug in my cable into the pc the nts 1 automaticly swich on. What yours doesn't do? And than the nts 1 software says "no connection". But the drivers are installed. Do you know what i did wrong?
Mine actually turns on too, I just shot and edited things kind of weird. But it should show up. Try a different cable or USB port maybe?
@@FreeBeat Ah okay. I've tried it with two different cables. I still have win7. Maybe this could be the reason?
It could be yeah, but I'm not entirely sure
@@FreeBeat ok thanks.
Some usb cables are for charging only. That is, they actually have only two leads inside them, instead of four. You need a proper four lead one for data transfer.
How can you tell if it has only two leads? take a look at the micro-USB plug and you may see that it only has two little pins in it, it looks like the middle ones are missing. However, the pins are really small, so it can sometimes be hard to see.
If it is a very thin cable, it is a giveaway that it is charging only. Test some other device with that cable and see if your computer will recognize it.
Now I just have to figure out how to compile...
If I may be allowed to correct you insofar as the description is concerned: you need rather more than an NTS-1 and a micro usb cable- you also need a pc. Seeing as how one of these is going to set you back perhaps ten times what the NTS-1 does, that’s one hell of a stumbling block. Gonna have to stick with what it can do out of the box...
You do need a computer yes. Luckily the NTS-1 can still do a ton out of box!
A rock pi x with windows 10 is a 85 dollar solution with a heat sink. Any netbook that can take win 10 will also work. Those are under $100.
@@hicknopunk Interesting- I may have to research netbooks. It’s not just the NTS-1, I have Arturia gear that only updates over pc/Mac, not iOS. Thanks for the heads-up!
@@walrtbstudios5430 one under $100 will be used. They are 229 to 329 new.
@@hicknopunk I’m in the UK, where things are generally pricier. However, I’ve just found a tablet pc running win10 for £160, so I’ll be checking that out.
Awe....the volca bass link is dead
Give it a shot now!
How many does it hold
I'm not exactly sure, but the librarian software has 16 slots in each category, so let's go with 16 haha. Thanks for watching!
@@FreeBeat well hey 16 would be sweet and more than i thought it would hold. Loving my nts 1
One , for me important , thing missing on the NTS-1 , i see no way to have it play a pattern , a sequence, if it would even be able to do just 8 notes of automation it would be grand, but to my knowledge it cannot, or can t?
There are a few custom oscillators out there that actually have miniature sequencers built into them! I can't remember which ones exactly but I'm sure a quick Google search would find you some answers!
That volca bass ocs has a 16 step sequencer, if you watch the video free beat mentioned tweeeek explains everything
"Available for Mac and PC" you mean Windows, not PC. Because there is no version that runs on Linux... as usual.
