I gave electroplating my first try a few days ago following the process you documented in your videos, and even though I still haven't cracked the secret to the ridiculously mirror-y finish you achieve, my first piece came out gorgeous. Your electroplating results are getting pretty impressive, although have you considered using your transparent black acrylic for the black bits? Or even blackening nickel?
I am interested in the "micrographite" results, although I suspect there won't be much difference unless there is an increased amount of graphene in it. Have you experimented with carbon nanotubes in the graphite mix?

If you use “dry graphite lubricant” spray from Home Depot you don’t need an air brush. The results are excellent as it’s made with alcohol. It’s all I use and haven’t had any problems. You can let it air dry to let it thicken to paint in areas that you don’t want to wide spray.

What he's doing here is called a Candy Coat. It has been used in cars for ages, basically means: Silver or Chrome background with clear coats of any particular clear color on top, usually acrylic for hobby projects. Tamiya and Vallejo have both Clear colors in their range for this kind of applications.
It's also super common to use either Alclad or Gaianotes chromes for the background layer as well, instead of doing Electroplating, which takes ages and it's hazardous as a process, at least more hazardous than enamel or lacquer paints.

    • @sircaptain8358

As much as I love the result, the beginning line about why you like FDM over Resin (that "They're ready as soon as they come off the bed") is kind-of killed by the *entire* rest of the video.
Sanding them down to remove layer lines takes probably 15-20 minutes, minimum (when you're doing the steps you listed), while Resin can be cleaned-up and cured in 10% of that time basically automatically (since many people use a Wash & Cure station of some kind that does it all for you). I love my FDM printer, but I also absolutely love the Resin printer for many things. They both serve a purpose.
