- Junkyard Wars season 2 episode 5 (in the USA). First aired on October 17, 2001 on The Learning Channel. This episode features my dad Chuck Slusarczyk as the team expert for the Miami Gearheads. They build a wooden plastic covered biplane glider in this episode. The glider dad told me was based on a hang glider he had made when he first got into hang gliding called the Hang Loose. Dad had a great time filming this episode. Many great scenes in this episode that are so dad or so Chuck if you ever met him. From singing the blues to blessing the plane before takeoff. My personal favorite part is when he gets the glue in his mouth.
Many are not aware, but dad and the team expert for the Hicks family, Barnaby Wainfan, have been friends for many years. They new each other before this episode and well after. Some years later, Barnaby actually built a powered ultralight version of the glider in this episode called the Lightbeam. My dad, Chuck Slusarczyk, is the designer of the CGS Hawk ultralight aircraft. He was an inaugural inductee into the EAA Ultralight Hall of Fame in 1999. He currently has an Easy Riser in the EAA AirVenture Museum, the prototype CGS Hawk is in the Florida Air Museum, and his personal "Army" Hawk is hanging in the MAPS Air Museum in Akron, OH.
It has been 20 years since this episode first aired and deserves to be preserved for people to see. I spliced this video from two VHS tapes to get a complete episode. Each tape had issues with some segments so I combined the original VHS copy from TLC with a copy we had recorded of the first airing. I am glad the VHS tapes were in good enough shape after so many years for me to digitally convert. Finding a functional VCR player in the digital age was quite a task as well. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy this video.

This show needs to be brought back desperately
Seriously! I used to watch this as a young kid, it was awesome.
Someone in 2001 was stuck *firmly* in 90s mode.
This show needs to come back. It was awesome.
I was 11 watching this, I use to love this and the robot battles when I was young.
Look up Battle Bots they have new episodes and it's pretty cool.
dude, same. 11 and entertained as much then as I am now . TV changed for the worse . I remember watching the first episode of mythbusters and being hooked
Yes the robot battles was the best! You just unlocked a childhood memory 😭😭😭
Monster Garage was better.. That's the show that started all of these fabrication style shows.. It was a few years before Mythbusters and American Choppers even.. Before Monster Garage the Discovery channel was all The Crocodile Hunter and shows about African safaris and wild animals.. You may have been to young to watch Monster Garage.. It would have been on sometime in the late 90s or very early 2000s.. Go look it up and see if you can find episodes online somewhere..
Same but over here in the UK it was scrap heap challenge and robot wars but in the exact same format, happy days
I miss Junkyard Wars. The world lost quite a bit of it's shine when it went away.
Oh my gods I used to love this show when I was a kid back in the 90s. I forgot it existed until it popped up on CZcams. Everything was just so much better in the 90s. I think civilization and society peaked then.
I use to love watching this show..BRING IT BACK
In Sweden we had "Hajk". Two men building clever stuff. At this time we had only two "2" channels to choose from. State television there was. Then finally we get more channels, and ads. This kind of shows, like candy for young as old. Still it hits me, like. -How easy it is to build a plane, or not.
This brings back a lot of memories for me, and being a total klutz myself, I'm always amazed at how they manage to put these things together.
I used to love watching this show when I was younger this is an awesome show thanks for bringing it back to CZcams
I just looked because I remember Cathy Rodgers (and other British broadcasters) never look straight on at the camera...& yep sure enough !
very good program! I loved it when you came here for us in Brazil
I loved junkyard wars and remember when this episode aired. Definitely enjoyed re-watching
Thank you. I always thought this was a great show. This was one of the more memorable episodes from the series. Your dad is a genius. Also seemed like a nice guy.
Congrats to your dad man, he seemed like a really smart and very chill guy!
Omg 😱 dude I totally forgot about this show. I used to love it!!!
I watched the series in Australia. Fantastic! Thanks for the restoration work you did on this, it was a great effort.
Awesome! Thank you!
I watched scrap heap challenge as a kid never heard of junkyard wars , Looking foward to watching them
Thanks for posting this.
At 7:35, Frank is literally savaging beside an airplane fuselage. Should have grabbed that bad boy for the skin.
A simple mono wing with no cockpit like the ones back in the 30's in Germany where the control was the pilot using body motion to steer. Simple and good distance. 😁😁😁🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🚛
Hadn't been for that unfortunate landing the stress hawk would've easily pulled off a 10 second flight.
Best show ever!
brings back memories
That is awesome, thanks for sharing!
I remember this episode because the one old dude is a db
Very enjoyable
I don't understand why the expert was a Pilot, and not Aeronautical Engineer, its clear that she looks control and responds as a black box!, but a true expert will know that tip triangular design is really bad for slow flyer, since is really unstable at low speed, and the miami team knew that biplane design was really floaty and stable desing. Disclamer, I know she is a f-18 pilot, but does plane were made by engineers
that could end really badly .
Missy Cummings in her bummings lol
Rooted for the red team. Btw Slusar means a locksmith in Ukrainian and Polish.
31.22 she almost said Mexicans
It was great to meet your dad at Kent OH. Quite the fun guy.
These people could fuggup a junkyard. 😶
Junk yard wars!
👍
Like everything else, this show started to suck when the US bought it. Same with Wheeler Dealers and countless others.
This is a copy of a British TV show
2 seconds my ass it was 4 one thousands easy
If someone could find the usenet group rec.aviation.ultralight shortly after this aired. Chuck and Barnaby had some words.
