  • This was the fastest passage fin our journey to Tahiti so far! Sailing from Martinique ti Panama we had strong winds and a large swell from our back. The boat kept surfing faster and faster, ultimately reaching 18.6 knots north of the Colombian Coast. She remained safe and stable all the way...what a boat !

    This is probably the best way to sell these cats. Show what they can do in real life, crossing oceans, living aboard & enjoying sailing. Thank you. Now I want 1....

    This is another great video in your seriesSail reviews really underrepresent 'actual' performance and day to day life so I appreciate you for capturing the actual experience. Fair winds!

      Thanks a lot. It’s a real pleasure to read your comment. Next episode will be the Panama Canal transit ( happening in 3 days) and then one month at sea for the pacific crossing…

    Really enjoying your vids. Wouldn't have expected the Excess 11 to sail this well, based on its displacement alone.

      Thanks Philip. I think that her ratio performance/comfort is very interesting. It's not a racing boat by far but her ratio weight/sail area is better than most other cruising cats, the sailing plan is good and the hull shapes are very good with narrow bottom and more space above. She sails better than the Catana on which I sailed half way around the world. An Outremer will go significantly faster but cost 3 times the price...

      @@SAILTAHITI How do you think she compares to a Seawind 1160 or 1190?

      @@philipblockf2857 on our crossing from Panama to tahiti one of our clients who purchased a Seawind 1260 will be onboard. He has already sailed se real thousand miles on his Seawind so we will be able to compare in details. That s one of our objectives…the other team members own a J130 racing boat so again an interesting comparison…

    I have always sailed mono's but would love to do these kind of disatnces. Following the trades must be great but the other way would be useless. Maybe I get one and just keep going until I arrive back.

    Hi! Do you know how this catamaran compares to the Nautitech 40 in terms of sailing capabilities?

    • @SAILTAHITI
      @SAILTAHITI  Před rokem

      Hello thanks for your question. It's hard to tell as we would have to sail both boats together in different wind conditions to give you an exact answer. But I have sailed a few times on Nautitech 40 and 12 000 miles on the Excess 11. I think they are very similar in performance. The lay out are a bit different, the Nautitech has a bigger cockpit but a very small saloon and smaller cabin. The Nautitech is about 50-80K euros more expensive (comparing new boat prices with identical equipment). I'm happy to discuss in more details by email or whatsapp + 689 87 32 88 45 or david@sailtahiti.com

    How did she handle on the Atlantic crossing? What size waves did you encounter?

    • @SAILTAHITI
      @SAILTAHITI  Před rokem

      The biggest waves we got were between the Caribbean and Panama and also offshore from Gibraltar. In both cases she did very well. Going upwind the biggest we got was 40 knots and 3 meters swell, the boat handled well with 2 reef in the mainsail. Obviously 10 meters swell would be a different story but with the weather forecast we get there is no reason to end up in such a situation
