- A theory known as pronatalism claims to want couples to have more babies to fight falling birth rates and has seen support from people like billionaire Elon Musk. But the idea also faces controversy with some critics saying the movement only wants certain kinds of babies. NBC News’ Maura Barrett met with a couple who follows the theory.

#Pronatalism #BirthRate #Babies
Earth is already wildly overpopulated; you need quality, not quantity !
Quality > Quantity
the animals are running out of space declining birth rates aren't a bad thing. how bizarre nerd overkill
This is not true at all
@@grod805 Based on what, your opinion ??? Australia is about the size of USA (3 vs 3.5 million sq miles) and has 24 million people. It is considered overpopulated, plenty of objective studies. What do you think about USA with 323 million people ??? And Europe is even denser populated...
@@PeterR0035 Well if that is a problem then why are you still here????? LOL.....just making a joke, I don't wish any harm on you. It is just funny.
You got to improve the economy before the population starts to take action. People can barely survive by themselves with the income given to them. Especially with the overpricing of homes, groceries, etc...
Pronatalism isn't about encouraging everyone to have tons of kids; it's about ensuring that our economies, social services, cities, etc. still work when populations start to decrease in size (right now, their proper function is largely predicated on population growth). Everyone wants the economy to improve, however pronatalism / demographic collapse awareness and appropriate planning for population decreases is essential regardless of the present state of the economy.
Notice their savior complex…pretty arrogant
We try our best to approach this advocacy with as much humility as possible, though it seems like no matter what we do, we'll be seen as arrogant or otherwise bad in various ways. Our overall goal remains unchanged: We are working to protect and expand human flourishing, and a hard landing on demographic collapse is a major threat to this.
@@SimoneandMalcolm please forgive me if I just don’t understand your viewpoint but I don’t think that encouraging people to have children for economic reasons is necessarily good, that doesn’t create families it creates problems.
🎯🎯
@@SimoneandMalcolm You ARE arrogant, which is why people keep seeing you in that way. The fact that you can afford the IVF and all the unnecessary genetic testing, and live on one income suggests that you have more money than the majority of folks in your generation. It's extremely off-putting to hear rich people like yourself preach to not let finances get in the way of family planning
These people are delusional 😂😂😂
Like their small herd of kids will make any difference.
Pregnancy is not risk free. Don’t be greedy for the number of children you are going to have. Be here for the children you already have. If you die, no one’s going to care or love your children like you do.
Common sense is not common
Think of the home prices after all the Boomers die off.
Only way my kids will be able to afford a place.
Population decline may be the only thing that saves us.
Exactly!
Even their glasses look fake.
weird vibes for sure
Pushing poverty. Elon can afford his kids, is going to help you?
Elon has 11 children and some of them don't like him. Especially, his trans-daughter, she spilled the tea online.🍵
Poverty is the opposite of what we are pushing. The pronatalist movement is raising awareness about the risks of a hard landing on demographic collapse in great part because we want to help cities, states, and countries reduce the increase in poverty that is inevitable if we don't rejigger pension funds, social services, infrastructure, and governments to function properly as populations shrink.
@@SimoneandMalcolm The way to fund social security would be to start taxing the wealthy and dramatically lower the over-inflated defense budget. Funding social security through exponential population growth is completely unsustainable.
She sounds unhinged. She'll stop when her life is threatened? Great idea.
Simone and Malcolm here! It's a bit of a stretch to say c-sections are life threatening. Yes, there are risks involved, but we consider them well worth it in the name of our children (after all, how far would you go to protect the life of one of your immediate family members?).
@@SimoneandMalcolmshe said until a "surgery goes terribly wrong" so exactly like what I said until her life is threatened, that's the natural consequences and definition of a surgery going terribly wrong. So pray her she doesn't lose her life trying to bring this eugenicist wet dream to life.
@@SimoneandMalcolmalso I'd just like to say we welcome you bringing more LGBTQ life into this world, thank you for the contributions you will make to that.
@@SimoneandMalcolm please explain what it means when a surgery goes "terribly wrong" .. clearly not the two sharpest tools in the shed
Two minutes of this BS, is all i could stand
I couldn't agree more.
psychos.
So they want to make sure their Anglican progeny are wage slaves keeping this hellscape we call capitalism?!?!
4:10 lol I'm sorry but that unhinged comment took me out 😂😂😂
Let's hope they always have health, money, time to take care of all the children, because it's not about overpopulated, it's about quality time, love, education.
And they all dress alike too 🤔🤨🥸
Cult. There’s a reason that they have a special on national television. I’m sure that it’s not because they’re good people.
🤣😭🤣💀
@@YourSecretIsSafeWithMetook the words right outta my mouth
Two narcissists thinking they can save the world and only them
That's far from the truth; if we thought we could "save the world alone," we would not be working to raise awareness of the risks of a hard landing on demographic collapse. We can only lessen the damage done by the inevitable decline in populations we'll see in many areas in the coming decade if many, many people get involved (especially policymakers) and treat this issue seriously.
Who are the narracists? The ones refusing to have children and make their lives single and all about them instead of making sacrifices for their own children?
Who’s the narcissists?
@@internetstudios5536 I don't think it's narcissistic to not have children when an individual recognizes that they do not have the capacity to care for children. It's narcissistic to have children and not care for them. It's also narcissistic to have children and expect accolades just for having them
@@donnawinters3587 I didn’t say people who don’t have children are narcissists. Though some can, they are selfish though which is not a bad thing.
Also what do you mean “Accolades for your children” and how are they doing that?
One child a year is a lot on a female body I have 5 children and i had them judt about 13-18 months apart and it was extremely physically demanding. It takes 9months to make a baby you should give your body at least 9 months to heal back up 😢
And even then your body isn't fully healed.
Its Recommended that you actually wait two years for your body to heal before having another baby
We space our pregnancies 9 months apart, so we're on the same page. :) Each body recovers differently; if we found that my (Simone's) body didn't recover well or had rough pregnancies, we would go with longer spacing. Fortunately, I have very easy pregnancies and recovery very quickly. This makes me very lucky, obviously, and we certainly don't expect that others would have kids so closely together (though we know of plenty who have kids in even closer succession).
My friend is the youngest of six. Totally resents his parents. Everything was a hand me down. Things got nuts with older siblings plotting and joking and being the youngest.
This never ends well.
Yeah cuz what earth needs is more people. Stupidity!
Pronatalism is not about spamming the world with people and pronatlaists aren't trying to halt demographic collapse (that would be possible). Rather, the cause is about reducing the damage associated with population declines, as our economies, governments, cities, social services, etc. are presently dependent on population growth in order to function properly.
Idocracy in real life...
People back in the day were dead poor and had 20 kids. This is the problem in today's society that you need to be wealthy to have children, I don't have children make good money and I'm married but I'm selfish I don't want kids.
@@felipenunez2058 They had for totally different reasons than people today.. It was to work on the land be useful to them, not out of love like today.. Also in those time people were basically forced to have kids, women had no rights, they were walking baby factory, they depended on men.. Can't compare with nowadays..
@@felipenunez2058 But why bring kids into the world when it's going to create more suffering for the family? Why bring about struggle?
@@felipenunez2058want to know why they had 20 children back then? It's because the majority of young children didn't make it to adulthood.
How do they support all those children?
The chocolate cake and the juice coming from their holes
@@paodbdauwlmfao
@@paodbdauwwhat does that even mean?
They are millionaires. That's how.
second hand clothes ect. That's not problem.
We have enough people.
No we do not
@@grod805Really? Not enough for what?
They don’t have enough Whyte people in the world to keep colonizing other nations
This couple is nuts and terrifying
They are not pronatalist at all.
She needs a new hobby
Earth needs FEWER humans.
I am an ANTI-natalist for life.
They must have a lot of money.
Yeah, sure if these pronatalists can afford the upbringing of these children. If not, forget it.
Only the nepopronatalists can at this point......
Tax payers can help
Raising children is tough not only financially but also emotionally and physically most parents also end up being overweight when they turn 40
Im surprised they were able to fit into the frame with their egos.
2:19 “I’m not a eugenicist, I just behave in a way that perfectly aligns with eugenics”
Federal Paid maternaty leave, cheaper childcare services there is a policy for you. You can't just tell people to have kids, when you are not Given the resources necessary to raise a family.
💯
Good for them. Probably using that as an excuse because kids are wonderful and anyone who doesn't want them has brain damage.
It's actually shocking how much it has gone down even amongst religious families who typically have higher birth rates. We are LDS and have 7 kids. When I was growing up 5 or 6 was the standard amount of kids. Now it is 3 or 4. With some even having only two. We live in a fairly affluent part of the city so it isn't finances that is stopping them.
It still could be finances. Even if you are affluent, even the affluent can't afford the rising costs of childcare and education. In the sf Bay Area one nanny for max two children will run you 80k a year not including benefits and that's not including the school,
"When I was growing up 5-6 was standard amount of kids". Sorry but that's insane. I'm 56 years old and have never known a family with that many kids. Sure I've heard of it but it certainly not "standard".
@@malcriadamedina5358 Literally all of the mothers in our ward are stay-at-home moms. There are only two that sort of have jobs and one of those does hair out of a room she converted in her home. The other is a substitute teacher. We live in a fairly affordable housing market in comparison to other major cities. I really don't think it is money. I think it is just people have changed their minds about the number of children they want to have but I am not sure why. I am speaking only from the standpoint of people in my faith. I understand people outside of it probably have different reasons.
@@HeavyInstinct Do you mean 7 is crazy? LOL. It is definitely not the norm in LDS families. I converted when I was a teenager. My parents both came from Catholic families. My mom is one of 8, my dad is one of 12. Although they only had two kids. So I think seeing beyond the 5-6 came from seeing my parents' families.
If you genuinely think 2 people can equally care for lots of kids, even 3+ kids then you’re wrong. Elon is a horrible example his kids want nothing to do with him. It’s going to be the same with these types of families who just pump out kids for the aesthetic/fetish/belief and the kids don’t get any attention or care, just at birth then become a caretaker for the next sibling. In the past people had lots of kids in poverty so they can earn more money from the kids. The poor people just pumped kids for labor. It’s not ideal for humanity at all there’s literally a reason why 1 child is the average for a human unlike most mammals. We are not meant to be so many and now thousands of species are extinct because of human population.
They abuse their children
As long as they are able to care for them.
The odds are that the older children will have a disproportionate level of responsibility.
@@ifetayodavidson-cade5613 It all depends on how the parents raise them.
@@ifetayodavidson-cade5613 Yes, especially the oldest daughters. Also, this couple doesn't seem very bright, to say the least and it seems like they are not thinking this through at all
As long as the children are loved, safe, and cared for.
We totally agree. And it's important to note that pronatalism isn't about shaming or pressuring folks who don't want kids to become parents. It's enough to just make things easier for those who want kids (or more kids).
Ah yes, the 'Quiverfull" folks. Scary.
I thought they were siblings🙃
I thought they were siblings 🙃
Would she abort if she got pregnant the ol' fashioned way? This couple is just gross
They have the right idea.
Wut??! 😂
🙄😬😲😮💨
Btw they're poly lol. Traditionalism out the window
I support the idea of Pro Natalism , just like Elon Musk. I am not married and I do not have children of my own . But Musk made some valid points about low birth rate recently . Basically, the world needs to maintain a birth rate of 2.1 child per woman in order to replace the older generation, who shall eventually pass away from our world .
We don't need to replace lol they had to many before hence why all the baby boomers will be glued to a bed with bed sores in a few years from lack of home health aids. And guess what the only ones willing to change a 70 year olds diaper and flip him over is a migrant crossing the border right now.
Me too. The comments on this are unhinged
@@grod805 yes we welcome you bringing more trans leftists into the world, thank you
And why exactly do we need to "replace" the older generation? We have over 8 billion people on this planet. What would be the "problem" with that number going down a bit?
Who's paying for all those kids? They must be millionaires😂😂😂
2:10
NOT THE WORK OF THE LORD👹
As long they are able to care for their family! God bless them ☺️
😂😂🤣🤣 wow
Ew.
Um.... that's cool but if there are only certain families have multiple children how does that help?
The guy from scishow has a twin brother???
I have more children than the couple. I’m able to have two babies just 13 minutes apart. I am the Queen of the world!
the current development is a positive thing.
Lol I wonder if they can afford all these kids
