  • In 2019 Fiat's tuning company Abarth celebrated its 70th birthday and I felt like a test drive in the Abarth 595 Esseesse would be fun to film for you guys. The Fiat 500 has been around for a decade now, so it isn't a modern car by any means, but having driven a ton of these (including a 400+ hp tuned version calles the Ares: • KAMPFKUGEL: Pogea Raci... ) and with a bit of a sweet spot for italian cars, I still like this car alot. The Esseesse is running a 180 hp 1,4 litre turbo engine with a mechanical limited slip differential and Akrapovic exhaust system, which sounds roudy. Also standard are Sabelt carbon bucket seats, Brembo brakes, Koni Frequency Selective Dampers and 17" alloy wheels.

    Cool intro with the music man! Missed it when you went away, please keep going.
    I went from a rs3 8v to a golf r 7.5 of the back of your videos on both products.
    Now at stage 2, 290kw and 550nm it’s the most fun I’ve had in a car.
    Thanks for all you big German hunk 😜

    The Abarth 500 is even better as a cabriolet.
    That's the one I'd get.
    VERY old platform, nowadays, though.
    Great review, Guido.

      I agree, it really has some GT-flavour around it, that would deserve a good treatment to fully come alive :)

    Hi Guido, I think it was Lancia instead of Alfa Romeo

      @TheGetawayer  Před 4 lety

      Shame on me for not mentioning Lancia! I read they prepared race cars for Alfa, but not sure if that's true. Great to read you in the comments again, Sir!

    I've been driving Italian cars for 25 years now (including Ferrari and Maserati) but I can assure you that this pocket rocket offers easily the highest fun/cost ratio, even after investing a lot of money in upgrading both interior and exterior (see my video czcams.com/video/w4Uu9Q_Zqi8/video.html). Meanwhile I replaced the supersport 17 inch wheels with OZ Ultralegera 18 inch and lowered the positioning of the Sabelt seats, which BTW are incredible, by 26 mm (a major difference !!). The underpinnings may be old, but the chassis is well sorted out. The Koni suspension is superb, like the Brembo brakes and the Akrapovic exhaust (aftermarket on my Competizione). But at the end it's all about emotion. This car has plenty of that. But I also would prefer a Ferrari F355 (which I owned) to a F8 Tributo. I would not care less about the safety features, because they mostly ruin the fun.

    A friend has a competitizione 2019 model. I drove it and its just boring tbh. Very stiff but in corners i didnt find it good enough. Not much extras or comfort. No real speed. But the exhaust is amazing when straight piped. Gearbox is not sporty at all. Actually volvo v40 maybe has a bigger turning circle

    • @TheGetawayer
      @TheGetawayer  Před 4 lety

      I don't think you can call these boring, it just depends on what you are used to power-wise and hunting down bigger cars in one of these is always a good laugh even on the autobahn :)

      Have in mind this car is A segment so it should be compared to other a segment cars like Renault Twingo RS, VW UP GTI, VW Lupo GTI go on and on. In comparison to these cars the abarth is the fastest on track, acceleration and top speed so it’s the best in it’s segment.
