  • In this video I decided it was time for me to upgrade my main PC. I was running an i9 9900k "this CPU is still very powerful" to a Ryzen 5900x! My main PC serves many functions for me. It's my video editing rig, I play games on it and more!
Was it worth it? Watch the whole video and find out! I'll show you benchmarks, Test games, and give you my thoughts on the whole upgrade and whether or not I recommend this setup!
    Thanks for watching ;)
    A few key Chapter marks:
:20 Part’s in this powerful PC build
    3:41 Building the PC
5:08 NVME drives, and CPU Cooler installs
9:35 first boot up + Bios
    10:28 Benchmarks!
    11:51 Game tests i9 9900k!
    15:55 Game tests Ryzen 7900x!
19:32 Final Thoughts: Was it Worth it to Upgrade?

Hi! Start off with a good motherboard and maybe a 5600g! Then later you can upgrade parts as you get more cash for parts. One day you will do it!!

Not a big difference in games, but you nailed it when you said you got plenty of room to grow. Yeah the thing about higher resolution gaming is you are mostly bound by the GPU. I hope you jotted down your speed differences in video editing and other regular tools.
It’s hilarious how different games react. When I went from a 3770k to a 12900k using my 3080 ftw3, some games only saw a 20fps avg, some saw more than double! And I play at 2235x1397. It all depends on how CPU or GPU bound the game is. One interesting metric was low fps. Games sometimes doubled, tripled, quadrupled or more going to the 12900. The low fps was a real factor in how bad the 3770k was chocking my 3080. Good job on the build, enjoy it, and looking forward to what’s next!

Tyvm! Yeah, as a preliminary figure I just noticed.. while exporting this video, all 12 cores never once peaked past 60%. Meanwhile, my 8 core i9 was pegged 100% all the time while exporting each video. I kept checking task man and was thinking to myself.. is Adobe using everything? But I'd look and it was slamming that video out way faster , and I knew adobe was working hard because it was using 21 gigs of system ram hah!.I think I'll go for an easier video next week :( building 2 systems testing editing and working my full time job was tough this week! But I can't wait to get back at it for all I've got planned next! Thanks again!

@@RememberThisTech And what is funny is most people don't realize they don't need to go crazy with the latest and greatest. People on a budget don't need to stress it and can save money by purchasing what their games need. Ya know there are 3 types of buyers: A)The ones that buy just what they need, B) The ones that buy for bragging rights, C) The ones that buy to ensure they don't need to upgrade for a long time. I'm C. I overclock the snot out of it all and make it last! And when I see games dragging my CPU to 80-90%, I'm like yeah it's time. My everyday home office rig still only has a 3770k, but with 32gigs of ram, on SSDs, and just a 1050 Ti, it does pretty well!
Yeah I hear ya. I'm sure you would eventually want to make your videos profitable, but then you still need your day job to support you till then. Then it becomes a struggle of how much time can you really dedicate to the videos without sacrificing other things. And then that turns into this violent tug of war where you start blaming your day job for you not being able to dedicate the time you want into what you really want to do. Been there done that with other things lol.

    • @RememberThisTech
      @RememberThisTech  Před rokem +1

@M R yup!! I'm type C too. But I also like to experiment and tinker. No with the channel I've goto find a balance between work and spending too much on new tech.. Would be nice just to do the channel. Maybe one day!

Ya never know! BTW, I’ve been reading a lot on the TRIM thing with XP and older Windows. Apparently, it’s not a big deal anymore with how robust new SSDs are and perhaps putting the swap file on a small mechanical drive to be safe. I was originally thinking of going SCSI HHD with my XP build. Now I think I’ll just toss in an SSD and try an NVME adapter for a 2nd drive (hoping it works) and see how it goes.

Those temps are actually good. I use a liquid cooler (corsair h100x) and my temps is usually about 70 c when gaming and benchmarking. As I understand it, temps around 90 c for this chip is ok (and by design).

That 1660 is holding you back. I get a 9800 3D Mark score with a Ryzen 5 5600X paired with a 6650XT. I also use the P5 and P3 in the same configuration and it works well.

@@RememberThisTech I saw a interesting video where the reviewer put a 6700XT and 6750XT against each other and the performance and FPS increase was very minimal but the heatload on the video memory of the 6650XT was enormous. So if you was to get a deal on a 6750XT. Make sure its a 3 fan card.

@Sean Dayton Yep I think I saw the same thing! The 6750s seem to be a bit higher oc too so those cooling solutions already have there work cut out for them.. The performance gains as you say Are nott hat much higher so I wouldn't want to have it die.. Thanks

My overclocked i5 12600kf is giving 20260 in R23, in passmark 33200k cpu score. My overclocked Gtx 1080 gave 13k in my last pc of 11 years back, in this it give 19800 win 10 while in win 11 i get 22300, but in games win 10 does this tiny bit better. So benchmarks are nice but have their limits, it really depends on what it tests and doesn't test.

Hi, You're absolutely right! It's kind of why I explained at the end of the video how in most cases certain apps, games, etc. Most people won't see a diff. But in certain high number crunching, or 4k video editing is where you will. Part of me thinks I could have stayed with the i9 and saved a bunch of money :(. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

@@RememberThisTech If you sell the old parts it should give you a good chunk of cash back. In my case i had a Xeon W3690 on a asus p6t ws pro (2008) at 4.32 ghz for 8000/9000 cpu score in passmark. It gave a nice improvement going to 12th gen and it only was $279. Well worth it, but i think a good pc should last around 8 till 12 years as a daily driver. In that case the costs are justifiable.
