All good things must come to an end. The Phantom was a reliable workhorse for many of the world's air forces for decades. It was the last time the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marines all used the same plane, and it's probably safe to say that no other plane will ever be as widely used, for so many different types of missions, by so many nations. Its pilots loved it, it has nothing left to prove, and it can retire with dignity.

Great video and... Phantoms Phorever! 👍👍 As a Vietnam War era USAF F-4E crew chief (1970-1974) I'm shocked to see these Japanese versions are 'hard wing' models. They don't have the excellent leading edge slats modification that was added to USAF 'E' models in 1971 IIRC. Replacing the original leading edge flaps (as shown in this video) with slats significantly improved the heavy Phantom's mediocre maneuverability and made it formidable in a dogfight. In fact, the USAF retrofitted all existing F-4E models in the early 1970s. Anyway, glad the fast Phantoms are still flying in 2020! 😁😄😊

My step father worked on F-4's as a crew chief with the D.C. Air National Guard. A friend and I were fortunate enough to get some time in the simulator. Phantoms are tough looking fighters. I always wanted to be a fighter pilot but my eyesight wasn't good enough.

Thank you so much for keeping your Phantoms phlying! The first six years of my USAF service was as a radar technician on F-4E and F-4G Phantoms. They are the most beautiful fighters ever built!

I once got a 2 hour ride in the back seat of an F-4G. Unbelievable. Definitely an E-Ticket ride for those of you old enough to understand.

@mrackerm I'm green with envy, I've sealed leaky wings, replaced rattling rivets, loose Jo-Bolts, cross-threaded anchor nuts, patched cracked panels you name it. Never got the chance to fly. You got lucky

I think Iranian Air Force still use them too, F4 phantoms and F14 tomcats and they are under sanction for 40 years so it’s amazing how they keep them operating !

I'm really happy to see so many Phantom-lovers. 301sq is the first and last intercept squadron equipped with the Phantom in the JASDF.
They will commence transition to the F35 in this year.
Air Development and test Wing will be the last user of her in Japan.

I remember being a young kid in the late 70's, just outside Houston near JSC, when these magnificent and very loud planes would take off ( You would hear them for several minutes, before they even flew over you) from Ellington field. It was my first introduction to warplanes...and I was hooked..... At the time the blue angels were also using A-4 Skyhawks for their demonstrations...…
I would ask permission from my dad ( which he gave), to climb onto our 2 story house we had..... just to see the airshow... From my vantage point I could see the whole show as none of the development that there is now at this moment was there... it's was straight field... all the way to the airbase.... Great times.

No matter what people say the phantom II’s are beautiful aircraft’s. Have seen the F-4EJ Kai’s in person and they’re great magnificent machines for modern standards.
