Today Liverpool officially welcomes back the Giants. French theatre company Royal de Luxe shook the city’s streets back in 2012 with this unique brand of sculpture, mechanical puppetry and performance art. Back then, the Sea Odyssey spectacular was commemorating the centenary year of the Titanic’s maiden voyage, through a story of a 30ft orphaned girl and her pet dog, Xolo. They navigated Liverpool city centre, meeting the girl’s 50ft diver uncle on their way, who was returning a lost letter to his niece. The entire story was inspired by a real-life letter sent by a 10-year-old girl whose father had worked on the doomed vessel.
This year, the elaborate Memories of August 1914 performance is to mark 100 years since the start of World War One. We see the return of the little girl, and her four-legged friend, but this time joined by a gigantic Grandma Giant.

Royal de Luxe is definitely one of the best in the business. From things I’ve heard the little girl seems to be the fan favourite. She’s currently in retirement with no plans for the future, however never say never. If anyone wants to see something very similar to this I highly recommend you visit les machines de l'ile. It’s just down the road from where Royal de Luxe stores all of their equipment. Yes giants included.

I randomly ran into this video a few years ago and then I heard the song played in this video on the radio and I remembered this video and immediately started to cry remembering how beautiful this video was. You wouldn't believe the journey I had to go on to find this thing again! But I'm SO glad I did!

TEE NUTZ I take your point Tee Nutz and do agree with what you say about the homeless situation. I shouldn’t have made a snipe about your spelling and apologise for that. I made this film of the giants 4 years ago and didn’t even see them this time around but a lot of people,seem to enjoy them. I believe it’s the last time they’ll be appearing and yes, the government do need to get their act together with regards social problems in Liverpool but unfortunately I don’t think they will.
What a waste of tax payers money. Why pay the French to do something we could do. I'm glad it's the last time.
You can't put a price tag on something that brings this much joy to the masses. It is never a waste of money.
