Wow - thank you for ALL the information you provided - I bought my VanTop because of your review 2 years ago. Now,, 2 years later, I have the same power problem you made a video about so I went online looking for a replacement powercord - Now I know!... so sad - I loved my rearview dashcam 612T... I think I will go in a new direction since they are not "active" - I thank you sir, for giving me direction🥰

Same here, really liked mine, it wasn't perfect (no product is) For it to last 2yrs that is somewhat the norm in today's electronics market, I wish it would last longer but the industry is moving towards 1yr life (based on what I saw when I was part of the industry) since companies know people like to buy the latest thing even if the upgrade is minimal and also to keep the cost as low a possible (to be competitive) which I get but man it was nice when we had things that lasted longer (both for monetary reasons but also for our environment!) I loved my Vantop camera, all they really needed to do to make it perfect, was to have the camera drop down, instead of left or right.

I got the vantop h612 when it was released. It was a amazing camera up until the charging port gave out. It failed prematurely at the one year mark. My assumption is that the port failed because of the vibrations that would shake the camera while I drove the car. If I remember correctly the vantop uses a mini USB which isn't as durable as a USB c port

I too have this mirror and having power issues with it. For some stupid reason the usb connector on the mirror is very weak. It would come on and then powers off. I had to wiggle the power connector for a bit for it to work. Now here I am looking through the comments it's nice to know I am not the only one with this issue. I will be looking into a different brand to replace this mirror which is really a shame as it worked well.
Yep, it was a good dash cam while it last and it was also my first mirror dash cam and definitely got me hooked on this things lol
i got the vantop h610 in 2021, finally got it installed in may 2022, and it has been great so far. i've emailed them for support a couple times and they have responded with the software update for my h610. the vantop h610 is still going strong in my vehicle. now i gotta get a dual dashcam/front and rear backup camera for one of my relatives. it looks like wolfbox is the brand to go to now.
Nice! Yeah out of my 2 Vantops, one is still going strong (however that car sees very little use and almost no exposure to long term heat of the sun, not sure if this is why the 2nd has lasted this long or if it's just pure chance) Cheers!

WOW! I stumbled onto your videos and have subscribed I enjoyed them so much. I have the Vantop 610 2.5 K mirror cam purchased in 2021. The SD card slot was damaged and I didn't know it until after it was hardwired in. I have been in touch with support at Van Top over this last year with some success as recently as Feb. 2023, but realized early on that they were no longer with Amazon or online. Now I know why. Thank you so much. Having grown really tired of "NO SD Card" across the entire screen of my mirror cam I was looking to replace it, but I wanted something compatible with the wiring and power cords already hard wired which according to VT my only option is to buy another 610 from eBay and just plug and play. They claim even the 612 is incompatible, but I have had others tell me they have successfully switched. I don't want to have to pay for re-hardwiring another unit in and I really don't want to buy an already obsolete replacement. Any suggestions? Thank you so much for your posts. I look forward to viewing more on this subject.

Ah regarding mixing dash cam components, yes I had viewers done it BUT I usually don't recommend it unless you don't mind voiding the warranty on the new replacement dash cam (due to mixing components) and we also don't know the long term aspects (both operational and safety) of mixing components. There is also the issue of which components will actually appear to work (again without knowing the long term effect of swapping) since sometimes small differences between the products (while looking the same from the outside) are important (I had a viewer fry his new rear camera because the old wiring looked same and it connected in the same way) I think it be neat for manufacturers to start standardizing some components like wiring so we can cross mingle them, but It's possible they may also not have plans to do so to avoid making it easy for a customer to jump out of their brand ugh. I bought my vantop dash cam winter 2021 around dec, had it hard wired installed. then summer 2022 it overheated, screen was discolored and it stopped turning on. a lot of back and forth emails of trouble shooting, nothing helped. They sent a new one weeks later. Now not even a year after receiving the replacement it’s Feb 2023 and my screen was glitching and stopped working today. I went online to find customer service and can’t find anything on them! Just coming across this video and now it makes sense. Money down the drain to pay for the device and the hard wire install. Very disappointed

Just had my HF612L replaced by Vantop. It was 11 mths old and mirror separated from the back. They replaced it with a H612T. Received it today 11/28/2022.

I think they are selling the H612T-Wifi as Veement 12" very cheap, they are going to far as to still keep the Vantop letters in the back of the mirror and the same Box. As you might see in some 2023 reviews.

Not sure if you have gotten a response from them since but I have just received an email from their customer support. I just asked them about a good hardwire kit from them and they got back to me.

Mine lasted 4 years it kept having power issues and the power cord is also messed up now so replaceing with wolfbox. Hust waiting for it to arrive.
Should say it did have memory writing errors, so I had to reformate my sd card come time to time, but I lived with the quirks and also found that it was better to do the slow formatting as the fast one last only 4 days or so.
Nice! That is actually a long time! my second one is still working, same is now going on 4 years. We'll see how much longer it lasts and once it does go, another teardown video lol Cheers!

Wish I could say the same. Mine shit the bed this week. Keeps turning off after it says welcome to vantop. Same SIM card (128 gb) same wires, nothings changed. Any idea on how to reset it? I tried hitting what I thought is the reset button on bottom of dash cam but it didn’t do anything
@@user-ch1jg7mq6v Hi B! how long did you had it for? it may be a power issue, I seen that condition when the power supply has failed. If you are hardwired I would try the cigarette lighter plug to see if it works correctly which would confirm a bad hardwire kit. If you are running the cigarette lighter adapter then I would use a power bank (capable of 2.5A) to confirm if the cigarette plug has failed. Hope this helps, Cheers!
Still have Vantop H612T connect on fuse. Still working strong. Maybe its bad that they dont have some firmware updates for some bugs. What do you think which is the best dashcam now? But with 4K? Thanks
@@nkojic Hi Nemanja! yeah it seems support for Vantop is non-existing now, not sure if they will come back at some point. Regarding the best dash cam out there right now, hat's a good question that I get often. I think the best dash cam depends on what you are looking for in a dash cam. I run different ones on my cars so what I usually tell people looking for the right dash cam for them is to start by picking the style of dash cam (Mirror or classic stick). Then how many cameras does it need to have (1, 2 or 3). Now that you have narrowed your selections, consider how much you want to spend on one, that will narrow your choices even further. Then consider any special features you are looking for such as 360° video, Side Camera, Wi-Fi, Parking monitor without hardwire, cloud support, High Frame Rate. Finally you would want to compare video quality (I have several dashcam reviews on my channel under the playlist "dashcams" if you like to compare). I just began working on a video to compare my top picks for different categories, stay tuned, Cheers!
..still have mine for a year or so..and it is usually working great.. nearly every day..with my only issues.. being with the battery capacity...and some overheating issues with a fading picture in the 100 degree afternoon heat of summer..and also usually being affected by the very cold winter.. and .. when my hard wired unit plug connector..just suddenly fell apart..after quickly disconnecting it a few times when .. the image had suddenly began to die.. or just began to fade away ..
Hi LR VANALLEN! similar situation here, it lasted a long time and come to think about it I did also notice the fading screen to black on very hot day towards the end of it 's life. My 2nd one (also 2yrs old) still going strong too, we'll see how long that one makes it :) Cheers from California!
Hi Alex, I bought the h612t about a year ago. It was nonoperating, so after several emails back and forth it was replaced by the h612. It worked ok until last week. The display comes up, I'm driving along and look at a blank screen. To bring it back up requires the slightest touch. It stays on for about another minute and then just goes dark. If I put the car in reverse it comes back. It's really not safe so I unplugged it.

The new WOLFBOX looks suspiciously similar to the VANTOP. They’re almost identical but it looks like the back has been slightly changed (perforated) to prevent overheating. They’ve also reduced the warranty to 1 year. Also WOLFBOX came out around the same time VANTOP disappeared. My opinion is that WOLFBOX is VANTOP under a new name. WOLFBOX = VANTOP. You should do a video comparing the two. You’ll see they are almost identical.

Yep to the untrained eye some mirror dashcams appear to be same, I'm not sure if you seen my Vantop teardown video, where I show why mirror dash cams look similar and their differences czcams.com/video/HW8jqbl_ayU/video.html There are some huge differences in performance between 2 dash cams that may share form factor: for example the CMOS sensors being used, the imaging processing software by the ISP, the lens construction (number of layers, view degrees, lens aperture, materials such as glass, plastic or combination of both) fully laminated LCD screen or normal lamination, Parking monitor without hardwire, Etc. I thought the same thing after Amazon toasted vantop. I've been searching all over the net about this as well as Vantop H612T vs Wolfbox G900 for any kinda comparisons but strangely can't find much of anything.
You could probably replace the battery with a super capacitor but would require some work

Interesting currently going through this. I bought Mine in 2021 had it installed at Best Buy . Now it won’t power in sent it back under warranty and waiting for a replacement. So upset reading all of these reviews but seems like it’s happening to everyone around the same time. Best Buy still has so many in stock. Why if this company is a fraud ?
Hi Marika! Oh no, I hope you can get it swapped out or something. Remember Best Buy is like any other retailer with limited return time windows, the warranty usually comes from the Manufacturer (which unfortunately in this case is Vantop) Well unless you got the extended warranty, then that provider will have to step in, but yeah sucks we have to jump thru hoops. I'm not sure if Best Buy plans to sell the remaining of their inventory and move to another brand or if they have in fact acquired Vantop and are in the process deciding how to continue the brand. I have no idea what I'm talking about but I suspect that these are nothing more than made up brands with website and probably owned by the same people in China. So that if one brand gets banned for gaming the review system or stealing technology (I know that's shocking from China) then they can just poof disappear and pivot to their brand or brands that are still standing. If you look at the screen interface and features it seems like basically all the same mirror dash cam anyway with slight differences. I wonder if the same fate awaits wolf box and all the other brands that have names like they sound like they were chosen by a Chinese person who's trying to pick a name that will sound somewhat familiar to an American.

I believe it's the one two punch to their business gonads, 1) they got cute with Amazon and their rules and got their store shut down and 2) China locked down EVERYTHING with their ZERO COVID policy where it's impossible for your employees to come to work.
Oh, and add the beginnings of a recession here in the US where buying stuff from China is really slowing down, I would be amazed that they come back.

My vantop mirror cam lasted less than a year. A lot of people are having these go dead. Apparently the mini USB port is junk

@@AlexAutoFun i haven’t tried to contact them. I looked on amazon and they weren’t there anymore like you said. Not sure where to look or what to do. The camera was 200 bucks and i had a guy install it that ended up costing me another 300
@@dosty3 I would definitely try to contact them since you should still be under warranty, you can find their contact info in the instruction manual of the dash cam. Please keep us posted, hopefully Vantop will come thru and honor their warranty..
