- In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view from Bern in Switzerland to Domodossola in Italy in 4K/60 frames per second.
Today's journey will lead us along two very important railway lines in Switzerland, the Lötschberg Line and the Simplon Railway. Together they form the second most important trans-Alpine railway line in Switzerland after the Gotthard Railway and an important north-south axis in Europe.
The Lötschberg line, a railway in Switzerland, connects Spiez in the canton of Bern with Brig in the canton of Valais. It crosses the Bernese Alps, from the Bernese Oberland to Upper Valais, through the Lötschberg Tunnel in the middle of the line. The Lötschberg axis is backed by the lower and longer Lötschberg Base Tunnel, part of the New Railway Links through the Alps project.
The line is famous for its double loop of spiral tunnels in the Kander Valley on its northern approach to the Lötschberg Tunnel and the climb out of the Rhone Valley on a steep mountainside through numerous tunnels and viaducts on the southern approach. Its culminating point is 1,240 metres (4,070 ft) above sea level, making it the highest adhesion and standard gauge railway in Switzerland.
The Simplon Railway is a line that links Lausanne in Switzerland and Domodossola in Italy, via Brig. Our journey will take us on that line from Brig to Domodossola. The 20 km long Simplon Tunnel (opened in 1906) is a major part of it.

@mozartmahler61 It is very nice. Enjoy the journey.
@@RailRelaxation thanks....i' m a real tunnel maniac and lover, and it' s fantastic also to read all the names and lenghts!!
@mozartmahler61 I am glad that you enjoyed the video. It is not easy to find all the names and lenghts of the tunnels...
🇮🇹💚❤Hello people from Italy! This wonderful Cab Ride transportation drive me crazy. I've never seen Such a Public Transportation. like that in my whole life. Great, great video from good channel. My best regards from Brazil.💚❤💙👏
@ReniCosta-oo3tr Hello. Thanks for watching! I am glad that you liked the journey. Abraços
Several years ago, on board the legendary TEE "Le Cisalpin" connecting Paris to Milan Central, an American traveller, having clearly heard the change in the noise generated by the rails, asked me if we had crossed the border with Italy. I explained to him that we had crossed the border between the Italian route operated by the FFS and the FS network. Up until that point it actually felt like flying...
I've made this journey many times and this journey brings back good memories. It would be great if a winter video could also be made as it looks even more beautiful with snow everywhere 👍
@andy537 Sounds great! I will keep that in my mind.
Good evening, another great cab ride from beautiful Switzerland. I really liked it again. Thanks for uploading and best wishes to Slovenia!😊
@hamster0815p It is a line that is just amazing, those two tunnels and beautiful landscapes....I loved the journey. Thank you very much for all your support, it is very helpful. Every bit goes towards equipment and travel expenses so I can keep on producing quality videos. Best wishes to you and your family and have nice weekend.
Breathtaking ride. Better than a movie. Thanks.😍

Lovely video and a lovely ride! I was surprised not to see more traffic coming in the opposite direction.
@shanghai264359 Glad you enjoyed it!
Switzerland vibe: clean, almost no wild grass along side the rails, sterile.
Italy vibe: just the opposite of Swiss! 😅
Great video, thanks!
@TwoThreeFour 😅
The north of Italy is clean and prosperous but obviously not as rich as Switzerland but the Italians have an excellent railway system, with new trains and almost all lines
electrified. I only wish that our trains in the UK were half as good.
By the way, Rail Relaxation, it is a great video and really enjoyable to watch.

@alwayslight2658 Thank you for your compliment.
When the Simplon line was activated in 1905, only the long single-track tunnel had been electrified with three-phase alternating current. Therefore between Iselle di Trasquera and Domodossola the service was carried out by steam locomotives of the Swiss federal railways. Probably the only case in the world in which railway traction in a state was carried out with locomotives belonging to a foreign railway network, without these normally continuing the journey towards their own country of origin. A further change of traction then took place in Domodossola. Therefore between Geneva and Milan there was a change of traction in Brig, a subsequent change in Iselle di Trasquera and finally a further change of locomotive in Domodossola!

I love your vidéos with a very good quality. Thanks you for the share. For me it's the most beautiful train line of the Switzerland.
@fsxsaintmartin Thank you too! I loved to make this journey too.
The political border does not coincide with the border between the FS and Swiss railway networks. For the FS this point is called "PDE di Iselle di Trasquera" (PDE stands for "extreme switch point") and from a tariff point of view it is called "Iselle transit" and not "Iselle border". The signals inside the Simplon tunnel and the electrical blocking system are of the Swiss type (axle counting block). The Iselle di Trasquera station controls the axle counting block sections between the station called Simplon (excluded) and Iselle di Trasquera, with a Swiss-type panel.
@Luigi-uj5ml Thank you very much for your comments. I am filming and with every video I learn more, but still, there are so many things that I do not know and I believer it is the same with other viewers. It is so enriching. Thank you again.
Ok
Però l'elettrificazione è svizzera, così come l'esercizio. Il cambio avviene a Domodossola.
Uff, what a scenery

@tomseaman1108 Glad you enjoyed it!
Between Iselle di Trasquera and Preglia, the Rollende Landstraße can only travel on the right track. Therefore, if the driver of a RoLa encounters a main signal with the purple light underneath lit, he must apply emergency braking.
@Luigi-uj5ml 👍
Slalomfahrt?
@@ZvonimirZelenika Exact! If from Domodossola to Preglia a RoLa train were to travel on the right track (the one normally reserved for odd-numbered trains), the Preglia station master should forward it to the left track. Otherwise, the Swiss train driver would see the purple light lit under the starting signal. Even in the event of departure from Preglia with a no-go signal due to a fault, the Swiss train driver would see the warning sign reminding him of the absolute ban on traveling on the right track.
@@ZvonimirZelenika Genau!
A great video. Very good of you to illustrate the names of the towns you passed through and the length and names of all the tunnels. I've driven over the Simplon Pass a few times and so your video gave an interesting perspective from the railway. Thanks.
@470danadidas Glad you enjoyed it!
Very beautiful line with a not very well known peculiarity, from the Swiss border to Domodossola the railway is Italian, the stations are Italian, but the signaling is Swiss, which is quite unusual, probably also the change in voltage takes place in Domodossola, so up to the Swiss border uses Swiss voltage for the catenary. Great video I really liked it
@andrealuigigobber2095 Thank you for your comment. It is a very nice and interesting line. And those peculiarities makes it even more interesting.
In reality not from the border but from the PDE of Iselle di Trasquera. Freight trains coming from Sempione generally continue to Domo II using a single track line also electrified at 15 kV 16 ⅔ Hz and with Swiss signaling. The single track line from Cadenazzo to Luino also has two railway stations in Italy belonging to RFI (Italian State Railways). They are Pino Tronzano and Maccagno. The signals are Swiss. In the event of a crossing, the Swiss train drivers do not understand why one of the two crossing trains is kept stopped at the protection signal until the other train has completely recovered. This is because, although the signals are Swiss, the more restrictive Italian regulations are applied.
@@Luigi-uj5ml Thanks for this clarification. So as I thought the change in power supply takes place in Domo, where it goes from 15kv alternating current to 4000kv Italian direct current.
@@andrealuigigobber2095Voltage change: in Domodossola for passenger trains and in Domo II for freight trains. In any case, the voltage used in Italy, high-speed lines aside, is 3000 V (nominal) direct current. Until the seventies many lines were still electrified in three-phase alternating current, as was initially the Simplon between Brig and Iselle di Trasquera
Great video. Thank you.

Thank you so much ! 👍👍👍
@xeneelik5037 Great. I can see that you enjoyed riding this line as I did. It is beautiful. Glad, that this video reminded you on your journey.
Beautiful railway plant! One cannot but appreciate the vision of the early planners of the national infrastructures where public funds were prioritized for railway related purposes, including for the impressive tunneling works. This is in sharp contrast to the situation in North America where the priorities are for highway related projects. 2023/10/03. Ontario, Canada.
@paul-andrelarose3389 Thank you for your comment. It is a very beautiful, and well planned, and well maintained railway route. Greetings to Ontario, Canada from Slovenia.
T O P !! BRAVO & LIKE
@by_feram Glad you like it.
Thanks for changing the distance description, now clearer with no confusion and delay? The BLS Re 4/4 (425) is 60 years old next year ('24). There is talk of a replacement. You did not meet a Simplon-Inter-Modal freight on your journey. The existence of these trains explains the multiple cross overs on the mountain route. Because the route was designed when wagons where short and the longest vehicle on the railway was a passenger coach clearance in curved tunnels was within running tolerance. New tech has brought longer wagons and wider containers (Euro Norm) so they do not fit safely. Solution is to send long wide inter modals round the outside track on curved tunnels. A rather torturous route over the mountain between Brig and Frutigen. They could use the base tunnel but that is for high speed and is only single on part of the tunnel. As soon as you hit Italy's tracks you see where Little Weeds ancestors come from.
@briancooper562 You are welcome. And thank you for additional information and explanation about the line and trains.
@JoshTransportationExplorer thank you!

@paolopetronio8260 Thank you for your compliments and the additional information and corrections. I have two different cameras, maybe there is the difference that you mentioned.
Bel giretto

Being overtaking by Traverso and meeting MUTZ at the same time was nice
I see you had to switch trainset in Brig
@aviano72 Thats right.

One of the things that seems like is not included on even the most elaborate train layouts are cast shadows.
The things that seems to be constant with almost every layout is and abundance of lies with pour in from every direction providing excellent views of the board from every direction. However, it appears that none of the layout makers choose a single point light source, like the sun, which would provide more realistic lighting and provide cast shadows for all objects. Tell me if you have seen a layout with cast shadows.

@Luigi-uj5ml Sorry to hear that. I hope the driver is ok.
The scale of the speedometer is sometimes odd like 0, 43, 65, 128, 170, sometimes strange like 0, 45, 90, 135, 108 (those aren't angles, are they?), and sometimes (even) multiples of 10. How come?
@_hca_ It is speed, it depends on the maximum speed and the program divides it... that's why it is like this.
❤❤ Simplon Tunnel speed 140 km/h
@lolanene7323 😁
Da Salerno -Reggio C quando lo fai?
@antoniosaglimbeni8837 No sei quando.
How come you don’t use your headlights when running the train it’s much safer if you turn your headlights on all the time. Good luck.
@dmcalais Thanks for the tip. I am not driving. And, the camera I use is not very good in low light, so sometimes it seems that there are no lights...
@vincenzocanta9783 Sad to hear that.
@denisgilles5541 In July this year.
Is there a Cafe' car?☕️ What do they have?☺️
@tonyringo6309 As far as i remember, it was just a coffee machine. But i am not really sure.
I suspect this BLS train is more or less a regional express. Maybe the SBB pendolinos that take the base tunnel have a cafe car. You have to give up the spectacular scenery for that though. It is faster though.
@@RailRelaxationyes exactly. There is one but it is self service on this particular train.
Speedometer is STUCK at 104 kmph and trip meter is stuck also
@robertschubert92 Sorry for that, too many and too long tunnels for GPS based data.
a little less contrast and a little more brightness.
@user-ev4cv9hk7w Thank you for your feedback.

@baptisteesclauze3566 Hello. I am glad that you enjoyed the journey. Greetings from Slovenia.
Good trip, but a lot of information, having put the meters in the tunnels, was enough. The letters distract and take away from seeing the wonderful landscapes that we have passed
@antaresDodezte Thank you for sharing your opinion.
@ago9614 It is a GPS based data and it is not always accurate, especially with lots of tunnels.
why no spain :(
@renfe447pmr I want to go back to Spain too....there are so many railways on my bucket list....
@@RailRelaxation you try R3 rodalies please emu 447?
