Drew - Thanks for sharing your three-watch collection!
Brian and Drew, let's talk watch sizes, specifically lug width and diameter. The "lug width" refers to the space between the small extensions on either side of the watch case where the strap or bracelet attaches.
Just for kicks, I looked up the specs for Drew's watches:
    Citizen Eco-Drive: Diameter - 41 mm, lug width - 22 mm
Tissot PR100: Diameter - 39 mm, lug width - 20 mm (Note: There are many models in the PR100 line, but Drew's looks to be the T101.451.051.00)
DMC Alpha Silver: Diameter - 44 mm, lug width - 22 mm
On the topic of G-Shock watches and pens, there's another parallel besides just durability. Many watch enthusiasts have a soft spot for G-Shock watches. Even if they don't wear them often, most collectors I know have at least one in their collection. I'm newer to fountain pens than to watches, but from what I can tell, G-Shock watches are to watch collectors what the Safari or Eco pens are to fountain pen aficionados.
    Cheers!

    Unknown if truly lost:
I haven't seen my Pilot Grance in almost 3 years. I'm not sure when/where I last used it since I often use a lot of different pens with different inks. One day, I got an alert that it was time to clean the pen, but I couldn't find it...
I don't remember using it in front of anyone that could maybe walk off with it. I keep hoping that I will open a long/unused bag or purse and discover it again. 🤞🏾
That story about the Waterman breaks my pen-loving heart. You would hope that the pilot at least tried to get the pen back to its owner. Then again, I do know people that just don't value other people's property; they would treat it like a $1 Bic, and just toss it aside, never even thinking that it might mean something to the owner. I also know people that would consider it 'finders-keepers' and would hope that the owner didn't remember the pen until after they left with it. Later they would give some weak excuse about why they no longer had it to return.
Yeah, some people had to go. Heh.

About smaller stubs: I like them for journaling since they fit between the grid easier.
On unique ways to lose something: I lost a pair of glasses into the San Antonio River while part of a performance on a barge. Now, understand that I can’t see anything clearly without glasses and you’ll know why I had some problems until I could get to a backup pair. Speaking of losing things (and related to fears of damaging them), there’s a reason I won’t be in the $500 for one pen camp. I think many of the expensive pens are works of art, but I’m into pens I can use without worry and not into collecting art.

    • @StacySchulze-cg1he

I wanted to update my input on the the $500/pen or $500/collection topic. I normally have 12 pens inked-different inks and nib combinations. If I only used them to take notes or write letters, I could understand having one magnificent art pen to enjoy. But, for sketching, lettering, and all sorts of journaling/note taking, having lots of less expensive pens is better.

Taking a flash light I looked in the wall, dropped the flashlight as well. Looking down I could see the lit flashlight and the pen twenty-five feet down, both unreachable. They are there to this day, but the ink has dried up and the batteries have long since died.

I don't know if this is a deep dive question, but unlike Drew, I do like large capacity pens, and I do have currently a Charlie pen and several Preppy pens eyedropped. So, here is my question: Why do all (as far as I have seen) eyedropper/eyedroppable pens with snap caps have the threads to join the barrel and section, on the inside of the barrel.
I get it for pens with the screw on caps, like the plastic Kaweco Sport: the barrel has threads in the inside wall for the section, and in the outside wall fot the cap. But the snap cap pens don't need the threads on the outside for the cap.
Wouldn't it be better fot such a pen to have the threads in the outside of the barrel screwing into threads in the inside of the section, so, you can fill it to the brim without getting ink in the threads. Eyeballing it, I think the Preppy would fit about 1 to 1.5 ml more of ink (and less of air) if it was built that way. Is it just that this is the way it has always been done? Or is there a reason I am not seeing? Or are there pens with the feature I am describing and I am not aware of them?
I would love to hear Brian's insightful thorough answer on this one.

I'm using the chapters but on CZcams (for the visuals) and not audio. I've found them to be extremely helpful but of course I can also scrub the content to find what I want if it's too much trouble!

A few years back we were packing up our whole house (that we had lived in for 18 years) to build our "dream home" on our farm. We used this time to declutter our belongings and somehow we accidentally decluttered about half of my fountain pen and ink collection. I lost my entire Franklin-Christoph collection (most of which were limited editions), some Newton Pens, a few Japan Exclusive Pilot Decimos, Sailors, a Pelikan M200, probably many more that I don't even remember, and I don't even know how many bottles of ink. I searched for two years for those boxes to no avail. 😢

Drew's expressions are my favorite part of the intro.
I never see ads during the Pencast, but I see a LOT when I watch other things. It really varies on the other stuff I see. Some things I watch have ads within them and ALSO get interrupted by YT pop-in ads. It is so frustrating sometimes, but I enjoy being able to watch two hours of you guys without annoying interruptions from YT.
Drew's Star Wars watch is AWESOME!
Can you explain how to tell if a refill is rollerball or gel? I have some that are gel refills and can't tell if they are ballpoint or rollerball. One is my hubby's Fire and Dice Retro and I don't want to get him the wrong refill - I abhor ballpoint!

Unfortunately I recently broke my Lamy 2000. 😞 I was packing my stuff up one night and it fell out of a case. When it hit the ground it actually split where the threads meet the body. I had to extract the broken thread section out so that I could salvage the nib.

When the first TWSBI special pen came out I ordered one from the TWSBI site. It arrived four days later and i tried to buy a second and they were sold out. When the second one was introduced i ordered two and have ordered two of the Kia also. Both the red and green versions write great and if kept in a drawer (or pen case) for a long period of time they still write once uncapped. Not cheap for a TWSBI but for me totally worth the cost. Love The Goulet Pencast.

Drew, here are the different styles of hammer i can think of off the top of my head. Framing, demolition, tack, ball pien, straight pien, cross pien, drilling, French-pattern blacksmith, Swedish-pattern blacksmith, and sledge; all of which you can get in different weights. I could easily get to 40 hammers without duplicating anything. I probably have 20 as it is, with the only duplications being basic framing hammers.

I do not own a Pilot Justus and have never seen one, but check the picture you showed of the Justus, at the point where the threads meet the part with the nib, it looks like the plastic is misaligned and there is a line that goes up the barrel. I don't know if that is normal or just the way the light shines on it, but it seems like it has a flaw.

When I was a kid, I picked up a Parker 75 at a garage sale not really knowing anything about fountain pens, I just thought it was cool. I never knew what happened to it for about 30 years until my dad passed and we found it in some of his stuff. It still had the box and converter. Also as a fellow tool 'nerd' and woodworker... I have more than 40 hammers. My favorite being a blacksmith-made claw hammer.

I especially needed the Pencast today. Thank you for helping me de-stress! Brian's "lawn roller" inspired me to see if there is such a thing as a "lawn hammer," in case his collection does not yet include one (and if not, why?). I found "garden hammer ... usually used in gardening for nailing wall trees," and "dual head hammer hoe ... The hammer end is for beating; the hole is for drawing nails and the flat end is for digging or hoeing soft soil." Have a great and restful weekend!

I bought the Retro 51 rollerball thinking I would use it until it ran out and then refill with fountain pen ink.
Before I ever got the chance to void my warranty on the empty cartridge, I had it in my pocket and it splurged out the whole contents of the rollerball ink onto my leg. 😥
I stick with the Schmidt 9000 refills now.
I can see why a capped rollerball is a thing
