I was hoping for a demonstration of how you make sauerbraten. In NYC there was a wonderful German restaurant, Luchow's, that closed a long time ago. Every Christmas we would go to see a amazing decorations and I always ordered the sauerbraten. My mother would make it once every couple of years and brine it for 10 days in the refrigerator. Delish

Oh sorry, I hope that the Video didn’t disappoint you. I am a good guide, the channel meant to feature regional food from Germany but Corona obviously got in the way and I had to take the matters in my own hands to keep the channel alive, so I started also cooking the dishes I show. Sauerbraten is very special. Shame it is only popular I Rheinland Pfalz and Franconia. But that the beauty about German cuisine - in every region the restaurants serve other things :)

Oh, it seems that she is making Polish Cabbage Rolls - those are completely different. The German once are only filled with meat (not meat & rice) and served with mash potatoes and roast sauce. Just look for traditional German recipe :) I also prefer the German version, if I am honest:)

My grandmother used to make a dish that she pronounced casenefla. Also, a recipe that was dough stuffed with cottage cheese and in a cream sauce. Her struedle was not sweet. It was a thin dough rolled in many layers served with fried potatoes. Unfortunately, grandma would always tell her recipes "(a little of this a little of that, like so...

The closest that comes to my mind about "casenefla" is Käseknöpfle the German kind of mac'n cheese. The "strudel" might be Maultaschen, rolled noodle dough with minced meat (or a vegetarian) filling.

    Great video!
I think the most obvious one left out is smoked pork chops (Kassler Braten).
As a side note, Sauerbraten was often used with less expensive meat, so you can find traditional recipes with lamb, veal and -- yes -- where I come from the traditional way to do it is with horsemeat.
P.S.: I'm eternally grateful that you didn't go full tourist route and put Pork Knuckles in there. Hate how they're on basically every German cuisine video.
