I wish there was a time tunnel in this world that would take us back in time to witness this phenomenal called Elvis Presley who managed to break out in a short period of time and changed so many things in the world

Young Elvis‘s singing is so light and airy he floats through the lyrics and it’s a joy to listen to.

Thanks for sharing this Dani. The birth of Rockabilly right there before your very ears, and he's in fine voice too, with his vocal mannerisms already well worked out. No wonder it was up up and away from here. Elvis has one of the best documented careers in musical history, and that's why I'm I'm in no special hurry to see the new film. I know I can admire the performances, the director's take on how it was, the production values etc., but I doubt it will teach me anything new about the man himself. For that I go to the source, his music and those who really knew him.

I remember listening to Elvis on the Lousiana Hayride and being so impressed, even through the static of AM radio. I had no idea how far he would go. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

I'm glad to see you're back on Elvis Thursday. I missed it. If I had time to look through some old footage I probably could find some because I've searched all kinds of Elvis stuff stuff on the internet

Fabulous to hear this early performance. I enjoy listening to my CD of recordings on Sun Records with so many great artists. Elvis was providing such a new, unique sound.

Well not entirely, the sound existed among black musicians already. Elvis just brought the sound out there to a wider audience with a new spin/touch to it! We all know where he got his influences from :) His voice though, was like nobody else's.

The best video performance of young Elvis I can find is the September 1956? return to Tupelo and I don't understand why you haven't reviewed that one. My opinion is it probably Elvis at his best ever.

I would think there are videos from the Ed Sullivan Show, where famously he could not be shown below the waist because his gyrations were just "too much". :) There is also a video from another show where he sings Hound Dog to an actual dog.

    Hi Dani,
Congratulations on surpassing 35k subscribers, forgot to mention it the other night.
"Louisiana Hayride" was a live radio show, so nothing was filmed and a lot of the time they didn't even record it, which gave the film makers quite a bit of artistic license, It's probably fair to say that Elvis first performance wasn't quite as dynamic as it appears in the movie.
Audio recordings of most of Elvis performances on the show do exist with the notable exception of his performance of "Rock around the clock" from 1955 . In some cases we have to rely on home recordings fans made while listening to the show on the radio, so the audio quality isn't always the best.
The first film footage of Elvis comes from a live show @Magnolia Gardens, Houston on Aug 7th. 1955, It was shot by someone in the audience and is decent quality but doesn't have any audio.
There is nothing else until the TV shows in 1956.
    XOXO from England.
