  • Hey everybody,
I just tried out the "mini spy cam" on the track and wanted to share it with you.
It worked "ok" and should provide some good racing/crash footage in future videos.
Be safe and have fun :)
    Cheers,
    Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)

Awesome! Try getting some footage with the camera turned around capturing the front of other cars in the field, or even angled towards the other lane to catch cars as they catch up or pass, I think you can have a lot of fun with that spy cam. I think I’m gonna get me one. 👍

hi. at 1:22 what did you use for guardrail?

Hi "BB", Thanks for watching and the question.
Answer: This was a solution that I came up with about 20 years ago due to the lack of good guard rails being available (did not have a 3D printer back then).
These are simply made out of 1/8 inch thick Masonite strips 1.75 inches wide.
Although this solution works and looks great (especially with advertising logos applied with the wood strips painted in a primer gray) it requires small holes to be drilled into the Masonite strip and side of the track every 4-6 inches. The Masonite strips are then fastened to the side of the track using small 4/40 screws with a washer and lock nut. This makes the turn a pain to take apart and it doesn't work on banked turns. I will be using this technique for the one turn on my layout that currently has the old school red guard rails from Carrera (aka "red licorice").
You can see a better example in my other videos:
      czcams.com/video/EHUzcLDGRuw/video.html
      and:
      czcams.com/video/R5wWs1A6hJM/video.html
and this one actually shows the screws (one minute and 15 seconds in):
      czcams.com/video/OYgRCpkislM/video.html
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Be safe and have fun :)
      Cheers,
      Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)

@@bbbookes8406 Hi BB, I picked up a 4' x 8' sheet of 1/8" Masonite from Lowe's and then cut it into 1 3/4" strips on a table saw.

Do you have a video on Variable Power Supply and jumpers?

Good question Justin. I just bought a TekPower switching power supply and can't get it to work?

      @garagemakerguy1808  Před 3 lety

Hi Justin, Thanks for watching and the question.
I will make a video on the power supply in the future. I assume that the "jumpers" you're talking about are the "Power Taps" that help distribute the power more evenly around the track. I've made a video on that already but will include that same information. Is there something particular that you have questions about?
      Be safe and have fun!

Hello Greg, Thanks for watching and the comment.
What doesn't work? Does the power supply have voltage? Have you checked it with a voltmeter? What model TekPower power supply do you have?
Let me know and we'll get it working :)
      Cheers,

    Red guardrail? Is that Carrera?

Hi Greg, Thanks for watching and the question.
The red guard rail in turn 6 is the old school stuff from Carrera (aka: "Red Licorice"). I'll be replacing that eventually when I get back to that section of the layout to finish the terrain.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

I saw that Carrera had a FPV car in 1/24, but apparently they didn't keep making it. quality on this cam isn't too great though...

He did mention in his video before this that he bought a cam for under $50 and the frame rate isn’t to good but he wasn’t going to spend $400 on a GoPro just to stick on his slot car lol neither would I. Video isn’t bad at all for the price. Just cool to be able to take a tour around everyone’s track layout .
