    I have never seen a cooler finish, ever. And Sput is such a great drummer.

      In my opinion, both the "mist" and "satin" finishes that star walnuts are offered with are amongst the worst that tama has ever made. I'm about to order a star walnut myself and, really, I've found all finishes to be lacking. Others look like furniture (dark mocha etc.), others make the drums look cheap (satin) and others (mist) look pale and are totally light-dependent. No sparkles, no fades, no nothing. The best drum line with the worst finishes. Amazing. With mij starclassics I couldn't decide which finish to go with because EVERYTHING looked great...

      Hi, in 2018 I went with the indigo burst, which was new back then and quickly and easily became the most popular finish in this line, empirically speaking. The next year, tama introduced some classic 90s-inspired (and I believe yamaha-inspired) solid colors (black, red, blue - yellow was already available). These are also not doing so well and I see that the blue has been abandoned now. I would consider solid black if I were to buy these drums again, which I probably won't. The fact that most people seem to buy the indigo burst color says something about the the gap in aesthetics between the options available in 2018 as well as today. With the mij starclassics, I don't remember seeing a single finish become so dominant. Whether that's because of the veneer or the color is hard to say, it's probably both. Although the sen veneer is arguably not the best looking up close compared to more popular drum veneers (mappa burl, scandinavian birch, curly/figured maple, select bubinga/walnut etc.). There seem to be big differences in the grain between the drums, which I believe may have an effect of the perception of the color, especially the light color in the middle. My comment from 6 years ago seems justified today, as the color you see in this video has been discontinued, along with another "mist" color (smoky natural mist) leaving only smoky black and smoky blue. Satin black walnut, which I also mentioned in my comment, has also been dropped I see.@@ZildjianEM

    Looks and sounds incredible! Though, I've never disliked anything I've heard from Sput, Tama or not! The man knows how to tune and make any kit sing.

    Sweet sound. I’ve been playing the maple custom star classic in crimson fade, made in 2004 in Bensalem Pa, has since discontinued. With the D112 the kick is killing through the phone, love to feel it live. Nice tight crisp sound we only get in my opinion from Tama, it’s been my choice my whole life from my 1976 Swingstar to 45 years later. Thanks Brother Great video peace and God Bless.

    Please Tama make a SLP 10” wooden “duo snare”, the Peter Erskine’s one is too expensive! T_T If anyone has the soundworks metal / metalworks, curious to hear from you though...

    I bought one of these and I am not blown away by the sound for what they cost. I am trading them towards a DW Cherry Kit which I should have got to begin with

  • @waveemann8857
    @waveemann8857 Před 9 lety +2

    so does he have like a 14x8/9 snare next to his floor tom that he just tunes like a tom and leaves the throwoff disengaged or something?

    • @rhythmista7707
      @rhythmista7707 Před 8 lety

      +Camilo Godoy It's odd though. What would be the purpose of doing that? ..Might as well just get a smaller floor..

      It's a kind of Bent Nails, a Snarky Puppy song; Sput developed the groove, so he plays it in multiple ways and moods :)

    Tama makes beautiful drums, but definitely not the best sounding drums, especially for the insane cost of a Star kit. You can get as good or better for less from an American made kit (DW, Ludwig, Gretsch).
