The week of the Tom Dempsey 1970 game, N.O. Times Picayune Sports Editor Bob Roesler had a Friday Q&A column nterview with Lions kicker Errol Mann...the last question was "who would likely break the FG record?" (which was 56 yards in 1956 by the Colts Bert Recichar), Mann's response was "Jan Stenerud in Denver's thin air" (WRONG!!!)
in Dempsey's very first game with the Saints, in a mid-1969 preseason game at Denver (8/16/69), his very first kick was a 54-yarder, straight down the middle that was *above the uprights* when it sailed above the crossbar...it would have been good from 80 yards....

"Curse of The Ford Family" is more accurate. When the Fords realized that Detroit football fans were willing to pay for bad football for generations, they figured there was no reason to spend their profits on building a winning team. Matt Millen was kept for so long because he did exactly what he was paid to do: lose. He only got fired after media and fan pressure. The Lions always draft a couple of stars on offense and defense... and have just enough wins to tease the fan into thinking "they're just a couple of drafts from the playoffs." Then the Lions fall back on their losing ways.

When we went 0-16, I had season tickets. It was horrid, but you just felt like this was going to be as low as it would get. After that, the Lions drafted this 20 year old gun slinger out of Georgia who was said to not be able to win the big game in college and he wouldn't be able to do it in the pros. Since '09, we have had the Calvin rule, the Dallas playoff blunder, late season collapses, Hail Mary nightmares, injuries in bunches, and one of the greatest receivers ever retiring at such a young age. After going through all of this, I can say that Detroit will feel the sweet justice that is victory once they finally win the Super Bowl. This city will erupt into a bigger atmosphere than Mardi Gras.

Don't forget the second Bobby Layne curse. Just before Bobby Layne passed away, there was this new quarterback at the University of Texas shattering all of Layne's previous records. When Layne was asked how he felt about some of his records being erased by the Longhorns new quarterback, Brett Stafford, he replied, "He may have all the records he wants, but Stafford will never know what it's like to take an NFL team to the Championship." And then he let out his last breath. True story. So leave it to the Lions, who, knowing Bobby Layne's curse ended after the 2008 season, traded in one Bobby Layne curse for another by drafting Matt Stafford in 2009.

As a former Lions fan who grew up in Detroit,. I finally let them go for good after they inexcusably fired Jim Caldwell!😠 And I couldn't be happier !!👍

That was a travesty. Jim Caldwell did not deserve to be fired.

Couldn’t agree more! I quit rooting for them after Stafford wanted out…watching him win the SB with the Rams was great to see

@@justinbroby I wish we could get a second NFL team in Detroit to root for. 🤔 Well now that I think about it,.. Our next NFL team would actually be our first. 🤬. 🤣🤣

It’s funny because during the film, the announcer says that the Steelers are 5x champs, meaning that this was shot after 2005 but before 2008, when they got number 6. Meaning that right after saying the curse was up the Lions went 0-16.

“This is the year baby, 19 and 0” they go 0 and 16

He had reason for optimism... The year they went 0-16 they were 4-0 in the preseason.

Tom Dempsey: 63 yard field goal against the Lions, winning 19-17
    Justin Tucker: Cute…try 66 yards….same score…

I just realized that 50 Year’s after the curse the lions drafted Stafford, so that means that he will win the super bowl
