- What can I say about the Back to the Future trilogy that hasn’t been said? Like most of you, Robert Zemeckis’s Back to the Future is one of my favorite movies of all time and it’s one of those rare films that appeals to generations of people and it’ll still be a classic in fifty years. So when Universal asked me if I’d like to speak with Lea Thompson and Christopher Lloyd for the Back to the Future 30th Anniversary Trilogy Blu-ray/DVD which is now in stores, I probably answered yes faster than any other time in my life.
During the interview the two stars talked about the first read through with Eric Stoltz and his take on the material, what they “borrowed” from set, memorable moments from filming, if the Doc Brown cameo in A Million Ways to Die in the West is part of the official canon, what they remember most from collaborating with Robert Zemeckis, and more.
If you’re a fan of the Back to the Future movies, I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy watching this one.
Lea Thompson & Christopher Lloyd:
Is the Doc Brown cameo in A Million Ways to Die in the West part of the official cannon of BTTF?
Did either of them “borrow” anything from set when they were filming?
How did the script and characters change during production? Thompson talks about the read through with Eric Stoltz.
Memorable moments from filming the trilogy.
What do they remember most from collaborating with Robert Zemeckis?

Lea Is just as lovely as ever.
*agrees* Isn't she, though? She's aging impressively! :-)
@Jay H funny thing is she actually looked OLDER when playing Marty's mother in 1985
@@sweetlife031 she have nice boob
58 years old and she’s still a fox. Her husband is truly blessed.
She is a grandmother now 😆
@@moow950 Grandmilf.
Two people from the films who had almost no scenes together. Epic.
There was the scene where Loraine followed Marty back to Doc's place.
It's sad that Crispin Glover is not part of any of the anniversary celebrations. I know he had problems with the creators about the ending of the film but it's sad that he's not out there with the rest of the cast celebrating one of the best movies ever. Because he was such a integral part of the film and was great as George Mcfly.
Another thing that happened is that they used prosthetics on someone to make him look like Glover (in the sequel) without his knowledge so he tried to sue them or something; if I remember correctly at least.
- Ryan
+HDMPIE not only but he was also not happy that they used stock footage of him
Crispin did exclude himself from BTTF.
Though it is unfair what they did with his prosthetic molds, some say in retaliation. In the end he did win the case and now it's made clear things like that can not be done without the person's permission.
@@MrNateSPF he was offered a role in bttf 2 and a even bigger part in part 3 and they almost had a deal but he got new agents and wanted more money. then realized he missed out so decided to sue. i think he was bitter about not getting his way
@@mitchkowalyshyn5402 I don't like the guy but I do agree with the courts decision they shouldn't have used the mold of his face (created for the first movie) without his permission. There's nothing wrong with hiring a different actor and using makeup to make him look more similar, it's just using the mold of his actual face that's the problem.
That anecdote about Eric Stoltz calling the movie "a tragedy" really sums up why they make the switch, lol
I've heard people write about that interpretation of the movie though. The entire family that you grew up with has now changed, once you go back to the future. The people you've known for your entire life have now essentially been replaced with pod people.
@@jedijones Pod people LOL I would have loved to come back to pod people instead of the awful, dysfunctional loons who were in my family
@@jonesy2892 Don't talk that way about your mother.
Favorite movie of all time
The way Lea Thompson purses her lips 1:10 she’s done so many times in her movies adorable then and now, such a classy actress.
I wonder how awkward it must have been for Lea to work with Eric Stoltz again in Some Kind of Wonderful, 2 years after Back To The Future had become an enormous success.
There's even a 1986 photo of Eric hanging out with Crispin Glover which is made awkward by the fact that three people in the photo are smiling, and Stoltz can't bring himself to go beyond a half-hearted grin.
Lea and Chris only shared one line of dialogue in BTTF so it’s so cute to see them together here.
Christopher Lloyd is to me, above all his characters, and will always be Jim Ignatowski from Taxi. This just shows my age. I loved how he played burned out yet lovable Jim. I remember feeling sad for him, like when he talked about loosing his apartment. He literally lost it as he couldn't find it again.
Yep!! Taxi was great and Jim was hilarious!
@@ivyknight1007 "You're graspin straws Reagar!" Loved "Jim", but DeVito drove that bus ;)
This is the most they've talked on film together, and they are both in movies together besides back to the future!
"I have big fake boobs"
"I have a shirt"
Classic.
she is timeless
When Christopher looks at Lea it's like " hey this woman looks better now than 30 years ago ". :D
Chris Lloyd is such a nice guy, but man every time I see him, I always see him as Doc Brown and shouting 'Great Scott!'. But he was also very fun in the Addams Family, how he played Fester was on the spot. Great actors and a timeless classic.
cool bro, but he'll always be Jim Ignatowski from Taxi for me.. youtube a few clips of that 👍
@@delg1211 Alright, cool... did not know that, I will looking that up some day;)
Awesome ending to a great interview ! I enjoyed this so much
Great interview
I love Back to the future💜💜
Lance Henriksen and Christopher Lloyd must be brothers!
No mention of ‘Dennis the Menace’ in which they co-starred, even though they did not share a scene. In fact, they only appear in one scene together in BTTF where they do not speak to each other. Strange seeing them together.
I think I know which shirt he's talking about (the yellow one with the trains and cowboys he wore for most of BttF2) and if his people don't Appreciate that high level fashion they're just not with it, I tell ya
Y'all need to watch a movie Christopher Lloyd did in his early years. It was with jack Nicholson, john Belushi and a few others. Goin' South awesome classic
Sort of disappointed that the Title mentions Eric Stoltz, but really all we got was reference from Lea. I was hoping for more on Eric in the interview.
I thought that this article was more informative than the video:

Thank you for saving me 7 minutes.
Not that I don't adore the movie as is, but I'm still - even after watching this - confused about why Eric ended up not getting the role of Marty McFly and Michael did while down Family Ties at the time. Although, Eric did end up co-starring with the beautiful Lea in Some Kind of Wonderful 2 years later lol 😊
Not a lot to tell, that hasn't already been told.
@@sweetlife031 Eric was given the role fo Marty to begin with. After six weeks of shooting and watching back the footage, the producers realised that he wasn’t showing that sort of charisma that Michael shows. Michael was actually their first choice but as you know he was shooting something else whilst the filming Back to the Future. After realising Eric wasn’t “good enough”, they literally begged the production crew of Family Ties if they could have Michael and they agreed, but it came at a cost. Michael would work on Family ties during the day (mainly weekdays) and he’d literally be picked up from that set and transported to the set of Back to the Future at night, which might explain why he looked quite tired during non-action packed scenes in the movie. I feel as though, a lot of the stress he felt during this period may have contributed to his development of Parkinson’s disease a decade later. But without Michael, Back to the Future wouldn’t have been as good as it is so they definitely made the right call as Eric did cause a lot friction with the other actors, especially Tom Wilson.
Is lovely how they keep on staring at each other when they answer. Also Lea is such a fox
As hilarious as the cameo in Seth MacFarlane's movie was, there's no way it could be cannon. BTTF 3 was set in 1885 California. A Million ways to die in the West was set in 1882 Arizona.
Doc did build a time machine train in 1885. He could have gone back three more years. ?
What is Leah Thompson’s reaction to Busted and McFly’s rendition of back to the future? 0:02
Safe and sound back on good ole You Tube.
CZcams?!
Doc Brown needs Marty for him to be alive....
I'd prefer it, if you'd say, 'Lea's still pretty.'
Lea is so hot...
I was about to write that verbatim.

@@fasteddie4145 Not so fast, eddie.
Are they alive in this video?
Lea!
Marty's mom is his daughter 😅
Looking back, a very brave choice, and the right choice, to replace Stoltz. The movie needed to be light, not heavy.
It would be decades later when Indiana Jones nuked the fridge.
Spielberg had literally sat on that idea for decades waiting to use it in a movie. The idea of a character being at a nuclear test site during an explosion and surviving it because he was inside a refrigerator.
@@jedijones That's not the idea one sits on for decades.
Lea Thompson's still hot.
Leah still hott
