I was 14 in Ireland. I sang it in English and Maths class, I still sing it in public. My aunt's husband used to give Mel Smith the taxi ride to the BBC. A grumpy sort apparently. I will never stop singing these verses.

I found out recently that my Mum had Gandhi's autograph (sadly she sold it to an auction for about £200 a few years ago :( ) - ever since that fact came to light, I can't stop singing 'Gandhi, Gandhi, it if wasn't me old mate - Gandhi!'. My OH thought I was mad - was so happy when I found this sketch and realised where I'd got it from (and proved my sanity to boot)!

Suddenly, today, in the kitchen found myself inexplicably singing Have Your Apocalypse Now. Found the sketch here on youtube, wow, this is the first time i've seen this sketch since it aired on TV I am pretty sure :D Great comedy craftsmanship really does last forever it seems :) It's odd how they faded into obscurity somewhat ( although I know Jones is on 3 men in a boat and Smith is obviously long gone now ) but I think they were too good for that to happen really. They were so many steps above the Russ Abbots, Little and Larges of the time. I recall another sketch ( That either the Simpson stole or by an amazing co-incidence had the very same idea ) where someone is being interviewed in a police room, accused of a crime. The police have tried to manipulate the interview video to frame the guy, but have done such a ridiculous job of it. Like the clock on the wall, behind Mel Smith, constantly changing, due to the edits etc... The Simpsons did it too, much later when framing Homer for being a sex pest haha... Is that original Smith and Jones sketch online at all ?

This sketch is on my tape followed by a non-talking sketch which sounds like children shouting and a piece of music which sounds like a cross between Jean Michel Jarre and The Pet Shop Boys. This video though, shows Mel and Griff sitting in chairs right at the end of the Stanley Rogers sketch which is different to the episode I have on tape.
