  • Minhaj Qidwai broke one of the most important rules about scuba diving: taking a flight too soon after. It resulted in him getting severely sick on the plane.

    Is he a certified diver? This is covered in detail in any entry level Scuba course.

    I learned about this problem from reading the book on how they built the Brooklyn Bridge. Workers building the foundations becoming seriously ill, a few died from lack of knowledge at time.

    A lot more of an interesting story than you normally get on WFAA these days. Glad he turned out alright.

    This story never specified whether he got in a plane knowing the risk or if he didn’t even know waiting 24 hours is a rule

    • @manofnorse
      @manofnorse Před 10 měsíci +4

      That is not that rule at all. It depends on your diving profiles in the last days and whatever your dive organization tells you. The scuba comedians from PADI recommend 24 hours (not to be liable for anything) but then refer to the DAN guidelines which allow you to fly 12 hours after a single non-deco dive. Non experienced divers might be tempted to choose the 12h version ...
      And did they say how long he waited? I didn't hear it.
      Btw: as a a little bit more experienced diver I do not dive 2 full days before the flight !

    Pause. Full stop. They took him to Frisco first? Medical City Las Colinas, Baylor Irving, Baylor Grapevine, Texas Health Bedford, Texas Health Harris Methodist and you know all of the other big hospitals around and said naw let's drive him 30+ away depending on traffic even if you take the toll?

      @acmhfmggru Před 6 dny +1

      not all hospitals have a decompression chamber... they explained this in the news segment you are commenting on.

    cool how the experts said please please don't do this and he did it

  • @HunkMine
    @HunkMine Před 2 lety +22

    Actually you don't have to wait 24 hrs for repetitive fives the diving association recommends 18 hrs and for single dives they recommend 12 hours before going on a plane

    idiots will be idiots.

      @H-mz4hy Před 3 měsíci

      Especially if it was his idea to be driven 30+ minutes to Frisco instead of going to any of the other hospitals near DFW Airport. If it had to be a Medical City the ones in Las Colinas and Arlington were FACTUALLY closer.

    The pause at 1:21 😂, but on a serious note this is scary especially with out treatment like in the Brooklyn Bridge cases.

    I wander what they were considering a “deep dive”. Think in sport diving it’s only 100 feet. How long was it before he flew from diving I wander? 100’ (3ATMt) to 8k’ it’s a small miracle he didnt get an A.G.E.…… Didnt say whether or not they provided him O2 on the plane… Crazy story………….. 😬
