- Decompression sickness, also know as the bends, is still one of those things which are least understood by divers. Yes, most divers know the symptoms and treatment but what does actually happen in your body? Despite many articles and video's on the internet I have yet to find an easy understandable explanation so even children would get what happens in your body. So what is the Decompression Theory?

I looked up this topic to begin with, because I was watching a movie on CZcams (Dave Not Coming Back) and I wanted to better understand why the dive was so risky and why a 10 minute trip down meant 8 hours on the return....this guy was more like a commercial break than anything else. Lol. Still had to check another video...I now understand, but no thanks to this guy. Lol!

Remember kids, out of every 100 particles of air you take in 97 of them are nitrogen and 21 are oxygen. Just ignore the fact that adds up to 118.
I think he’s dyslexic because i think he meant 79 nitrogen+ 21 oxygen equaling 100 particles. But who cares this is just a terrible video

The best part is when this kind of guys with dyslexia or dyscalculia working as a cashier in the supermarkets or banks. Or even worse if they are anesthesiologist... or just pharmacist.
The bends: Ok you have 3 trucks filled with tuna. One gets in an accident. One makes it to its destination. The third is actually a hamburger with lettuce. If one eats the hamburger, then you have 2 busses left. The bends.
You forgot to mention the roads, one is a dirt road, the second is paved, and the third...there is no road. Change scene to someone hang-gliding over the grand canon, he looks down sees a marriage proposal. Notices it's his ex that dumped him in the third grade, he races down to the bottom, lands... brake-dance fight with the would-be fiancé. They both gain respect for each other and team up to compete on Americas Got Talent, win. -Then Bends.
Let ME simplifiy it...
When you're diving, nitrogen accumulates in your body.
If you ascend too fast, the nitrogen kinda bubbles up your blood and makes stuff work not so well. In short, the bends.

I repeated this part 3 times and turned on the subtitles to make sure that I have no hearing issues
I think he meant 79% (not 97%) would be Nitrogen and 21% would be Oxygen. The real composition of air is 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, and much less of these remaining gases: almost 1% Argon, .04% CO2, and much less Neon, Helium, Methane, and Krypton.

Okay I had paused at where you had said 97 tourists and 21 residents, came to the comments to say dyslexia is a bitch, it is 79 not 97 yada yada. I finally watched the rest of the video and... oh mah gawd lol. That was... something else... I understand the point you are trying to make with this video, but you managed to probably confuse most people. I am laughing so hard I have tears rolling down my face. Thank you for this video. A lot of places rely on tourists to bring money to their city. they literally build tourist traps, monuments and wonders to attract tourists for this purpose. They are welcomed with open arms, they are very beneficial, so this analogy is pretty wack. 😆

Even though this video is terrible by numbers and other explanations, the 79 (which is 97 in the video) meaning nitrogen. If you keep breathing underwater, more nitrogen and oxygen come to your body. But your body cannot use nitrogen, only the oxygen. That is why more and more "tourists" can cause problem. You keep using that 21 percent oxygen and nothing from the other part of the compressed air. I hope it helps.

Hey! You inhale it trough the air you breath. Because of the pressure the "density" of the air increases and therefore you inhale more nitrogen. Does that make any sense?
50ft Below but they are breathing pure oxygen when the ascend and decend right? So the extra nitrogen the end up getting is from when the are back on land? And now their bodies are already overwhelmed correct?
@@lizzly86 the pressure below is so high it pushes nitrogen through the skin, no matter how concealed you are the particles can get through you.
@@lizzly86 Breathing in pure oxygen is deadly and extremely harmful. In the oxygen tank that they carry, there is around 56% nitrogen and some amounts of helium along with oxygen. In high pressure regions underwater, the nitrogen dissolves in the blood (more than usual). That's where the extra nitrogen comes from.
@@lizzly86Only astronauts in the cold war breathe pure oxygen. And it's not good for your body anyway to breathe too much oxygen.
