In case anyone is wondering, that 'proto-pokemon' remark isn't a joke. Pokemon's creator literally said Ultraseven's capsule monsters were an inspiration for the series.
"Man, Hideaki Anno's really deep with his Judeo-Christian symbolsism. We mere mortals can hardly fathom what's going on inside his genius brain." Anno's brain: "uLTrasEveN, yURiKo HisHImi" I'd be the same if I'd grown up with this.
The final two episodes of Ultraseven still make for one of the most memorable, exciting finales in the Ultra series, possibly tokusatsu as a whole. By then it's more than apparent why Ultraseven was as influential as it was. Good video.
@@nazrulaqmar4891 True! Also is interesting and I liked some elements what was used in the series, but I guess that based on "classic 67s" may be fantastic reimagining like we see until now on Shin Ultraman teaser, a "classic Ultraseven 67s" in the nowdays. The size of the whole Ultraman series scared me at first but I admit that Ultraseven is one of the best series I have ever watched, you did a good review on this one.
I personally consider Ultraseven to be the peak of Showa Ultra series, at least in terms of writing; the fact that the content is accessible to small children without losing its maturity is a testament to how good it is. It's not perfect (“The Terrifying Super-Simian” was honestly a weak episode) but it's still pretty consistent in quality. “The Superweapon R1” is definitely a very influential episode on later series, with its message repeated in Taro (Mururoa's episode), 80 (Gauss), Gaia (the whole deal with the underground missile and the warp bomb) and even Z's final arc. Goes to show that even if we've left the Cold War behind, we should never forget Dan's words about the endless marathon we run whilst coughing up blood. Side note: I wonder if you're going to review Heisei Ultraseven and Ultraseven X? The former follows up a bit on some plotlines left hanging in the original and the latter significantly dials up the grittiness, both of which might be interesting to talk about
My favorite moment with Ultraseven is in Ultraman Orb's Movie when Ultraseven arrives and it was just... Monster: Seven? X: Seven? Ginga: Seven? Victory: Seven? Crystal Villain, frusterated: SEVEN! SEVEN!! SEVEN!!!
Honestly, Ultraseven is when the Ultra Series BECAME the Ultra Series; for me, at least. Ultra Q and Ultraman both touched upon that sense of tone and the way it’s expressed through experimental filmmaking, but Seven made it its creative backbone. Over time, through gradual integration, it became (again, for me) the core ingredient behind what makes the best Ultraman shows just pop.
It makes me so happy to see that people actually remember Ultraseven (or Ultraman in general) in 2021. It really played a large part of my childhood. I still have a few of those Bandai vinyl Ultraman figures which serve as a reminder of the good ol’ days
Seven is an incredible show, especially with its sequel. Love how the themes and emotions are presented in its surrealism and cinematography. Thought it was cool as a kid, loved it even more as an adult. Thanks very much for this review!
I really like UltraSeven's ambition and everything about him. He's a part time scientist and fighter, that's some impressive stuff for an alien like him
Ultraseven is one of my favorite Ultras. He has been in a lot of other Ultra shows besides his own. Ultra Galaxy Fight, Leo, and was inspiration for Ultraman Seven in the Netflix Ultraman series. He is also the father of Ultraman Zero. Seven is equally as popular the original Ultraman.
Ultraseven is one of my favorite ultras since i love his design, abilities, strength, and the first ep of Ultraseven came out at the same day as my birthday, i watch some fights when i was young, but now i want to watch the whole series
I feel the same way. He's also very unique among the other Ultras. He can grow and shrink back to normal size when he needs to and it was really cool how he had a blade on his helmet that could launch at Kaiju.
Coming to this series as a new viewer, I was impressed by how similar to The Outer Limits it was in both theme and experimentation. But with arguably better camera work overall. It certainly leaned into being a Science Fiction show more than say Ultraman did.
Ultraseven is my most favorite. Unique among the Ultras, he possesses no color timer. 7 is my favorite number. And the fact of being overpowered, he still fights back.
out of the ultra brothers, Ace was the one that attracted me the most. Then I saw how serious ultraseven show was...oof...thats good stuff there. I do hope to see a review for Ace cuz i feel he's rather underrated
I was introduced into Ultraseven before I even saw Ultraman when I was a kid in the mid 80s and I loved it so much. The thing about it being more mature was in fact strong because I was introduced to gore like decapitations in this series and death of loving non human characters in a tragic manner. It was my favorite as a kid.
I loved Ultraman, I remember first watching it when my dad was stationed in Okinawa in 1968. Fond memory's. There was another one that no one seems to remember but I liked too. Spectreman, aired from 1971-72. Had 63 episodes.
This season is so great I haven't even finished it but it's still great. It characterized Dan as Ultraseven more and the UG feel a lot more badass. Plus the plots improved a lot. Anne is also lovely.

@Labiche fun fact : if an ultra in human form (like Dan) has a baby with a human (be it a man or a woman), then the baby will 100% be an Ultra and not a weird hybrid. This is speculation, but since ultras are very advanced as a race their genetics must also be far superior than humans. I feel if Tsuburaya really wants to do the "Shin" approach, Ultraseven would be the best entry to do that. Even though I'm okay with Shin Ultraman, but I will pay more money to see Shin Ultraseven. 😃
Episode 12 of Ultraseven was deleted from the series in Japan. That episode was discussing nuclear radiation, but the design of the alien in that episode hurts the feeling of the survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombing. Dark Zone, The Targeted Town, Super Weapon R-1, Ambassador of the Nonmalt, and the episode 12 are great enough to deserve a single deep analysis video.
Thank you for your fantastic review. Ultraseven is my most favourite ultraman series since childhood. The second one will be Ultraman Max (2005) who might be partly a more lighthearted tribute to Ultraman. Anyway, both ultramen shared many similarities e.g. outlook, weapon like eye slugger, plots, etc. I really recommend Ultraman Max to those who like Ultraseven.
Seven, Tiga (his name being "three" in Malay and Indonesian languages for those unaware) and Zero would wind up being that trio of Ultras named after single digit numbers that become milkable as heck to Tsupro. Seven less so than the other two but compared to other showa Ultras, yes.
"This is a story of a far distant future. Why is that, you ask? Because humans don't trust each other enough for aliens to prey on them." When I heard that line, I felt that if aliens were to invade us, they wouldn't even have to use our trust against us. They will just wait for us to destroy ourselves.
Great series and review man! I have the dvd box set and watched it years ago. I was kinda bummed out that one of the episodes was so controversial that it was banned from release to the set though.
A very wonderful insight and review of the series !! Thank you very much! I wish to hear your opinion on Izenborg!! There's a comic of it coming this year !!
I'm only 19 episodes in but I love it, the strong STRONG Sci-fi elements more so then even the few other Ultra shows I've seen make it stand out more. Very well done on this review of Ultraseven. It gives useful insight into the series' dark tone as well as social and political commentary of the late 1960s (Cold War era.) ☺😺 '
6:25 Episode 8,: "The Marked Town". also know as "The Red Seeds"., is what partially inspired videogame director Swery65 to create the plot for his game Deadly Premonition for PS3/Xbox 360, along with being inspired by the TV series Twin Peaks, as the original name for the game was "Rainy Woods" but then that got changed to "Red Seeds Profile" for its Japanese release, while its localized title was "Deadly Premonition" as the plot for "Red Seeds Profile" was that the small town the protagonist visits as an FBI agent tring to solve a murder mystery, unfolds to said 'red seeds' that have infiltrated the townsfolk, causing them to act irradically much like ep 8 of Ultraseven.
you should make a review or at least talk about the Netflix Ultraman series, I thought it was well done. I just really wish they hadn't used CGI for an Ultraman anime, but I'll take what I can get.
Netflix ultraman is an offense to human intelligence!! Totally disrespectful to the orignial series and graphic design is a disgrace!! rooted fans loyals to Seven and Ultraman found that a disaster!!! so did i
It was meant to be an Alternate Universe, in which there's no other Ultraman post the departure of the Ultraman, and for being an Alternative, it's a pretty good series. It's when Human Utilize the Ultra gene to create their own Ultraman
i liked the anime alot, i just wish he could turn big. its not the same since he doesnt turn big. hes basically just kamen rider in terms of his powerset
there's one episode eliminated from Ultraseven. Episode 12: From a planet with love(Crystalized Corpuscles), That's the episode in which Ultraseven fights off an alien invasion of space vampires. This Spell Seijin where collecting human blood to replace their radioactive poisoned blood.
this is pretty cool , you should do one for kamen rider kabuto , i always think that kabuto is the kamen rider equivalent of ultra seven. pretty dark theme compare to the other titles in their franchise.
Thank you for this video. I would be remiss if I didn't point out that the fight choreography of this and other Ultra series owes a lot to Hong Kong kung fu flicks of the same era., and vice versa (compare: Bruce Lee versus Chuck Norris in Way of The Dragon to Ultraman 1 vs Kiras ). Specifically, I refer to the transition from upper body to lower body shots. It's less effective when removed from the context of kung fu stances but still powerful as a storytelling tool in tokusatsu
Yes! Thank you! I’m new to Ultraman. What would you recommend a beginner? Also, what are your thoughts on the Netflix anime version? Thanks! Love your content!
I find ultraman mebius a good introduction to new fans. It showcase some parts of showa ultras but still keep the lore. Then from there u can go to ur faves. All the showa ultra shows are good to watch. Pick ur fave and go watch
Start showa with Ultraman Ultraseven Ultraman jack Ultraman ace (epic cause his monster are strong) Ultraman taro Ultraman leo Ultraman 80 (good because it is) Start heisei with Tiga Dyna Gaia Cosmos Nexus Max Mebius Zero Special Neos I don't like new generation because most of it like for kid
4:55 something similar happens in Great Mazinger 5 years later. But that time it was just because the Great Marshall of Hell had a dream in which is crucified Great Mazinger
As you were commenting on the social commentary of the show, we cannot ignore the banned episode with the subterranean people poisoned by radiation. It hit way too close to home following Hiroshima.

Today Is Ultraseven's 55th Anniversary
46 episodes later, thank you for this video and recommedation
Nice, new video time~ keep up the good work dude, I always enjoy your content
Thank you for the review, Ultraseven is my favourite.
Same here.
Seven.
Seven.
Fighter Seven.
Hero Seven.
you should make a review or at least talk about the Netflix Ultraman series, I thought it was well done. I just really wish they hadn't used CGI for an Ultraman anime, but I'll take what I can get.
Netflix ultraman is an offense to human intelligence!! Totally disrespectful to the orignial series and graphic design is a disgrace!! rooted fans loyals to Seven and Ultraman found that a disaster!!! so did i
It was meant to be an Alternate Universe, in which there's no other Ultraman post the departure of the Ultraman,
and for being an Alternative, it's a pretty good series.
It's when Human Utilize the Ultra gene to create their own Ultraman
i liked the anime alot, i just wish he could turn big. its not the same since he doesnt turn big. hes basically just kamen rider in terms of his powerset
Netflix Ultraman is a bad joke. A really bad joke.
The netflix ultraman doesn't seem appealing to me, the design wasn't familiar and just weird.

Look at these genius camera works...
there's one episode eliminated from Ultraseven. Episode 12: From a planet with love(Crystalized Corpuscles), That's the episode in which Ultraseven fights off an alien invasion of space vampires. This Spell Seijin where collecting human blood to replace their radioactive poisoned blood.
You need to do the return of ultraman next
*Reads title*
Uh durr!
Yeah Ultraseven is my favorite and I do like the following Showa series non quite nailed the ensemble feel of Seven's cast.
Ultraseven to me is the first Ultraman. Nothing against Ultraman Hayata, it just didn't grab me the way this series did.
Arguably the greatest Ultra series of all time.
Love this review! As of today, new subscriber!!
this is pretty cool , you should do one for kamen rider kabuto , i always think that kabuto is the kamen rider equivalent of ultra seven. pretty dark theme compare to the other titles in their franchise.
Hesei Ultraseven also deserve its own video
ulta7 last two episodes was the best i've seen, the composition and ending was awesome.
Watching this video made me realise how much different is dan moroboshi from ultraseven and Netflix's ultraman. I wander why they changed him so much
greatest mistake ever
Can't wait for the next video!
9:17 stop, stop he's already dead ! 😭 (Rest in pieces Eleking)
For the older era either Ultra Q, Ultraman, Or Ultraseven
Modern day start with Ultraman Mebius or Ultraman Ginga.
I think the original 66 ultraman is the best introduction to the series. Seven and ultraQ are great too though.
I find ultraman mebius a good introduction to new fans. It showcase some parts of showa ultras but still keep the lore. Then from there u can go to ur faves. All the showa ultra shows are good to watch. Pick ur fave and go watch
Start showa with
Ultraman
Ultraseven
Ultraman jack
Ultraman ace (epic cause his monster are strong)
Ultraman taro
Ultraman leo
Ultraman 80 (good because it is)
Start heisei with
Tiga
Dyna
Gaia
Cosmos
Nexus
Max
Mebius
Zero
Special
Neos
I don't like new generation because most of it like for kid

ultraman seven will always be my favoirte out of all of the ultramans
4:55 something similar happens in Great Mazinger 5 years later. But that time it was just because the Great Marshall of Hell had a dream in which is crucified Great Mazinger
Good videos, good channel, auto subs. Thanks to CZcams recommendation 😎👍

As you were commenting on the social commentary of the show, we cannot ignore the banned episode with the subterranean people poisoned by radiation. It hit way too close to home following Hiroshima.
Ulta seven y Eiji Tsuburaya Sensei, en nuestros corazones.
