    Great demonstration of how to install this sensor switch. I would have been 'experimenting' for hours if I had not watched so thanks! I did add the pigtail in the non-sensor switch as shown in the instructions. Doing this allowed the sensor switch to work regardless of the position of the other switch.

    Great walk through video for a motion sensor replacement. I did everything as you did, then I turned the light back on 😥 no sign that it was working. I went back to turn off the lights off and I calmly sat down to check if there were troubleshooting instructions on the menu. The first thing I saw was, “your switch may not work... wait 2 minutes for the switch to fully charge.” (Something along those lines). I was like surprised so I set my alarm for two minutes. Sure enough, two minutes later it was working like it’s supposed to. Thanks for the clear instructions. 👍

    Kevin, you are the greatest. Seeing this procedure actually being done made it so easy. My only problem was that I had removed and replaced the 3-way switch several times and wasn’t sure which of the black wires was the power wire. I used a circuit tester to find the right wire and was off to the races. I can now enter my shop to light blazing.

    Thanks for your helpful demo. I just installed 3 3-way and 2 single pole switches . Stairway has 5 3 way switches as group of 3 and 2, I only change 3 of them, in the group of 3, I changed two which are to detect the start of stepping down the stair and one to stepping up. I left out the middle between the bottom and the top of the stairs which is a 3-way with dimmer. I ran onto one which does not have neutral and one which needs to wire with a whole bunch of white wires. For single pole, just don't use the green one and connect to the bare. However, there is one old switch which controls light but does not look like 3-way but rather single pole switch and not only it has 2 screws but 4 screws, so this part I'm still figuring out if I can use it as a single pole but it may disable whatever the other 2 screws got connected. I was looking and almost ready to buy battery power stairway lighting set which would be a very bad idea since Lutron's cool occupancy sensor switches solved how lighting should operate in need of those situations as in my case as older people forgot to activate light when going downstairs. Not only it lights up automatically but turns off when not in use. This is how demo should be so you can see wire connection with clear explanation as I was able to understand to get this installed correctly.

    I purchased one of the 3 way switches and was able to install it just fine. The new switch worked well. However, the other old switch was able to turn off the light, but not turn it back on. Also, if the old light switch was off the new switch could not turn the lights on or off.
    I tried switching the travelers, but that did not help. I was able to wire the old switch back and both switches work without issue. Thoughts?

    • @KevinPon.
      @KevinPon.  Před 3 lety

      Hi Nick, the reason for that is that the old switch has the control of the main power source that will feed the new switch. The new switch needs 24/7 constant power for it to work. If you turn off the old switch, it will stop the power traveling to the new switch. That's why I leave my old switch untouched. So the new switch stays on 24/7 and turns on the light automatically when someone walks to the room. 🍻

    • @KevinPon.
      @KevinPon.  Před 3 lety

      @@nickcoad3763no problem. I wouldn't say you installed it wrong. You done it correctly. Even if you installed it to the other side. You cannot flip the old switch. Must leave it on. Let's say you did installed both on both sides and if both switches are triggered and you want to turn the lights off. You will have to press both switches to turn the light off. However installing both allows you to turn the light off only if the other switch doesn't pick up motion.

    • @KevinPon.

    • @KevinPon.
      @KevinPon.  Před 2 lety

You will have to connect the black with the black, white with white, red wire with the black wire that's next to the blue on the switch and lastly the bare copper with the aluminum bare on the switch. Must have constant power flowing to the motion sensor so the other switch cannot be switched off.

    @KevinPon1. I've got kids. They are always leaving the fan on in the bathroom. My solution? An occupancy sensor switch. The bathroom has a sink and a toilet. The are two switches. One for the exhaust fan and one for the physically seperate light fixture. So I decided to have the light fixture motion activated. I took note of how the original switches were wired. But when it was time to use those drawings. I couldnn't make sense of them. Go figure. I did not realize it when I started but it turns out that they adjacent foyer light, a wall outlet and my porch light wired into the bathrooms switch box. So when I disconnected the wires, all the above had no power Anyway, with both switches pulled out from the wall, the box has a bundle of nuetral wire, four black lines, one of which is hot. Not sure why. But, Chatgtp tells me to wire up the occupancy sensor with fan control first. The switches need to operate independantly of each other. In other words. I do not want one switch to work only if they other switch is turned on. The occupancy switch has a Line in, a load out, a ground, a nuetral, and a blue traveler. The motion sensor light switch has a line in, a load out, a nuetral and a ground. I connected each switches ground to the wall ground. I connected bothe nuetrals to the nuetral bundle. Having only one Hot line I wire nutted the line in of bothe switches to the hot line. I connected the load out lines of each switch to its corresponding fixture line. Now, here is the problem. The fan will not turn on unless the light switch is turned on. I still have one unused black line in the wall. I'm think that line delivers the power to my foyer, prorch light and wall outlet. So, I'm guessing I should have also wired it to the hot like in the wall. Do I need to use the blue traveler to power my light switch instead of a black line in? I'm guessing that the traveller provides constant power and bypasses the on/off switch. Fast response would be greatly appreciated. I mean happy wife , happy life, right? Yeah shes sort a pissed that my work cut some of the power. LOL.

      Haha oh boy. Hi Peter, I'll try my best to help you out. From what you have been telling me. Whoever wired your place, put everything on one circuit... You're on the right track. Do not use the blue traveller, just cap it. We won't be using it. What we are going to do is connect your hot wire to: line for the occupancy, line for your motion, and the remaining black wire that feeds power to the foyer, porch and wall outlets. Combine them all. Connect your two loads as I've read you have already done that and all your ground wires. Connect all the neutral wires together. Make sure you have your breaker is off to be safe. When everything is all complete you can turn the the breaker back on and everything should be back to normal. 🍻🍻

      @@KevinPon.so, indeed. Everything is working. I didn't die, I didn't burn the house down. Mind you. This is the second set of switch. With the first set I thought I had it hooked up right. But clearly didn't. When I hit the switch to turn on the light. The actual light switch blew up. This included some shrapnel on fire as well. That happened before I messaged you. But we are good niw
      Except the setup still isn't functioning as expected. The fan switch is behaving as though it gets it's power from the light switch. It doesn't. But fan won't run unless the light switch is turned on. When the light switches sensor shuts off the light. The fan stops. But I don't want that.
      The two seperate switches are pigtailed to the one hot line in the bathroom. So both are independant ly powered. Or at least they should be. I was hoping to ha e sensor active light. A fan you have to turn on. Then the light shoukd go off after 5 minutes. Whike the fan runs for 5 more mi utes. That was the idea. But instead. I have to set. The light to remain on longer than the fan. I guess with these poless switches, there's no bypassing the switch. In the old setup. Power went to the fan first then over to Line of the light switch L. Am I Mali g sense? Am I missing something here? Perhaps a second hot line from the wall?

    • @KevinPon.
      @KevinPon.  Před rokem

I have a 3 way setup and I had a handyman come do this for me (I just don't trust myself lol), but what's happening now is that the regular switch doesn't turn the light on (however it can turn the light off with it if I trigger the light with the Maestro first). What wiring did we mess up? I noticed that he didn't use that one wire at 1:43 and used the one at 0:52 to hook to the very back instead
    Currently the light only turns on when the regular switch is in 1 state, acting as the gatekeeper😆
