    They down played Babyface when he was in the group. But now he's the MOST successful of them all hands down. When The Deele were signed to Solar, BabyFace would write songs for the group and they didn't want him singing his OWN songs That's when Solar Records owner Dick Griffey gave him the green light to go in and do HIS OWN ALBUM. That's why we have "I LOVE YOU BABE". He KILLED them with that SOLO album !!!....lol...NEVER try to hold people back

      j. payne enough stop it your comment makes me sick, they did that because he was a sellout, it's immature to equate ultimate success with being right, most of the time ppl make it on the backs of others, it's not wrong to parlay your situation, but babyface did that and failed to bring them along, when he promised them and talked all this shit about "if i make it"

      @@rhinocharges1556Make no mistake, I LOVE The Deele, but its OBVIOUS "the other guys" had their OWN ideas and OWN way of how they wanted things to go. But If they got under L.A. and Face that means LaFace would be in charge of the project and It was obvious "the other guys" didn't want that. So since that was and or is the case, go do your OWN thing, L.A. and Face went and did THEIR'S. And HERE we are !! Moral of the story I wrote above is be careful how you treat people !!

      @@rhinocharges1556 LA brought Face in the group. He was supposed to play guitar and keys only. Also write and produce because he was good at doing that more so than the rest. I’m from Indy and have been in the music scene for decades. Watch Questlove Supreme interview with LA. Babyface has been writing since grade school also had been in many bands for years before he got with the Deele. He wasn’t tripping either about not singing because his goal eventually was to go solo. The sustaining money is in writing, publishing not entertaining. The Deele and others from 80’s and 90’s groups still gig. You can’t pull anyone into a situation (Record companies, Labels) if you don’t have anything to offer just because you’re are friends or family.

    I'm from the UK and fell in love with The Deele, when I first heard 'Two Occasions', back in early 1988.
    I was, just wondering why Stanley "Sticq" Burke left the group, after their first album? I thoroughly enjoyed this interview and 'Sticq' seems quite a character and has certainly got the look and presence or persona!
    I also learnt, which I didn't realise, is that Funk music originated from Ohio.
    Will always love The Deele to my dying day. I went mad on 'Two Occasions' and the follow up, 'Shoot 'Em Up', wasn't far behind - in fact, I would say, 'Two Occasions', is one of my *all-time* fave trax!
    Love you Deele, FOREVER!

    They do their best to leave Babyface’s name out of all of their interviews. After listening to LA Reid’s audiobook, I know exactly what happened. But without him, LA Reid wouldn’t have written Body Talk and they wouldn’t have Two Occasions...their biggest hit. Reid. Reid credits Face with motivating him to start writing. If you listen to any of their greatest songs, Babyface’s voice is mixed into the background vocals where you can hear him stand out. LA said Dee and Satin didn’t want Face to sing any lead vocals in an effort to secure their spots as lead vocalist. If you go back and look at the BET performance in honor of LA Reid you see Face had body language like I’m only doing this for LA Reid and this check. The only reason Face did the bridge on Two Occasions, is because Dee refused to sing that part.

      Not true LA Reid clearly made it clear to Babyface he already has two lead singers they need a guitar and keyboard player and song writer and Face said cool cause he heard him sing on Midnight Star Play Another Slow Jam cause Bo Watson played keys for LA Reid and when he heard face sing he asked him to join the group. Now the second album Dick Griffey heard Face sing Sweet November and told LA put that on the album and he said well we already have two lead singers and after several meeting they decided to let Face sing lead. So it's not they didn't want Face to sing lead but it had to be a group decision. Lets not forget these guys still remained friends and a lot of people don't know Babyface and Dee wrote Roni and Rock Witcha in 1982 and LA and Daryl Simmons produced it and After 7 sang background on the studio version of Rock Witcha not Karyn White.

    • @ronc3748
      @ronc3748 Před 3 lety +6

      Can't say he was fabricating his story but those words came out of his own mouth in his interview with WBLS radio but listening to this interview here I hear them mention Babyface's name and said they have love for one another and Dee only said he wanted Two Occasions to be an uptempo song. To me they made the right choice cause Face tore Sweet November up and Dee's background vocals complimented Faces and they sound alike Dee just has a higher range to his voice. They should have made more albums.

    HOW THE FUNK CAPITAL OF THE WORLD IS FIGHTING TO KEEP ITS LEGACY ALIVE IN DAYTON OHIO!
    Stephen StarrJUN 19 2019.
    When Dayton’s The Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center - aka TheFunkCenter - opened in December 2017, locals delighted in it marrying a proud musical tradition with hope for the revival of a city long down on its luck. Built to celebrate the Ohio city’s reputation as ground zero of the funk world, the center drew volunteers and experts from the Netherlands, Japan and the U.K. and superstar names from Dayton’s 1970s and ’80s funk scene, who pieced together the decades-old instruments, records and memorabilia on display. Tickets to the opening ceremony sold out in days.

      No it was baby face, it was Kenny (baby face) who brought Melvin his brother out to Los Angeles. Not only do I have 2 children by Flash of manchild which Kenny and Darryl were also original members of I worked at the Zodiac lounge. I was there when Dee, Kayo, L A , Cisco & Stick came 2 indy & when they left, along with Kenny and Darryl Simmons. I knew each one of them ; not knew of them, I knew them, and because of my brother being a musician in Indy and his connections with r&b bands here I have been around almost all the bands if not all of them. Baby face's little brother from after 7 (not going to mention which one) was my ride or die weed buddy. I'm not trying to put them on blast but damn I know more than TMZ, & national inquire put together could get on them. And no I wasn't a groupie, I was only with Flash who knew me when I was little from my brother and him being in a band together, plus my great uncle was a well known blues musician and his music is on CZcams and he's been dead for 60 years. I don't care for blues myself, but if you're a blues lover check out Scraper Blackwell. I have no clue how his music is on several social media sites, I didn't upload it and he sure didn't soooo idk maybe he went to the cross road. 🤫
