- King off the road takes on all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee in battle of the large 4x4 SUV 👉 Full Review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial...
Since its hotly anticipated release in late 2021, the new 300 Series has done nothing to undermine the Toyota LandCruiser’s reputation as the best full-size off-road SUV available today.
In fact the new Toyota LandCruiser came out on top against the Nissan Patrol in both on-road and off-road comparison tests earlier this year.
But now it’s time for the LC300 to face a new challenger in the fifth-generation 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L seven-seater, which is actually a fair bit longer in both wheelbase and, in Sahara guise as tested here, overall length - and brings a host of technology and luxury in its bid to rule the large go-anywhere SUV roost.
Feann Torr puts the big new American rig up against the benchmark in its class and the result might surprise you.

Do a review after both of them have completed 200,000 miles. That's when the Landcruiser will really shine in terms of quality and reliability.
The Jeep will be in the junk yard at that millage
@@theoyansen8267 nope jeep has come a long way
@@USDM_Jesus yes it's now part of Stellantis group wich means even lower reliability
Though that Landcruiser has a new generation twin turbo six engine which is much more complex than the sturdy V8 of before. So time will tell.
It will have every electrical gremlin under the sun by then that's for sure.
If Jeep had kept the diesel it definitely would have been a very close performance comparison
@@electrikoptik yes I agree but definitely would have been a much better choice than the anaemic V6 petrol and would have still maintained the 3.5 tonne towing which was the only reason people were buying the 5 seat Grand Cherokee.
Many marques are ditching the diesel for their trucks quite prematurely me thinks. One other such is Nissan with lack of a diesel in the Y62 range patrol.
Let’s test that at 400,000 miles
This is the most unbiased review I have seen in a long time.👍
Let’s compare them again at 100k 300k and 500k miles
Stup!d comment! don't own a car and wait 100k, 300k & 500K to do a preventive maintenance.
Jeep easily do 200k mile , buy I don't want to ride over 100 mile. Jeep is better. I don't care what happened over 300k miles
That Jeep looks amazing outside and inside. Plus it’s much more spacious inside!! They did very well with this new model
Will be able to say the same of it in 15 years
@b m 15 years 😂😂
Do you mean in 2040
15 years... try 3
I have to say, FCA did improve a lot in quality....
It's a pity they don't factor reliability and running costs
I drive a 2004 LandCruiser 100 (V8 petrol) and it's as sweet as the day I bought it. It feels indestructible but extremely comfortable and quiet to drive.
How is this an equal comparison? The Jeep is a midsizer and the LC is a fullsize. IDK if they sell the Wagoneer in AU but that would be a much better compariosn.
I own both of these vehicles. The fuel economy on both for my mixed usage is 11L/100. Given the 40 to 50c price difference in diesel. The Jeep is cheeper to run. Fixed price service for Jeep is $285. Vs $385 for LC. They are not compatible as an off roader or tow vehicle. Jeep is a people mover / lux SUV. Not the core intention of the LC. I love both cars but will more often take the Jeep on longer drives for the economy.
Exterior = land cruiser
Interior = grand cherokee
Technology = grand cherokee
Practicality = land cruiser
Reliability = land cruiser
Luxury = grand cherokee
💩💩
Agree on most, but on the exterior, the landcruiser is nothing special, I think the GC wins there as well, only if it had the 5.7 hemi.
Exterior? 🤔
While subjective... The Land Cruiser looks like a Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon lifting off the ground.
Fuel economy = LC
Reliable = LC
Value after 10/20 year = LC
@@Mightyshaw I agree with this one, but they do breakdown, believe it or not.
We be interesting to see how the new inline 6 goes once fitted to the Jeep range.
Looks like an awesome engine.
Can we appreciate that both still got functional buttons and dials?
This video was necessary! Thank you!
The land cruiser IS NOT an SUV as mentioned, it is much more focused on being an off-roader. So complaining that the suspension is lazy and wallowing is unjustified. Compared to the Jeep which in this current spec is no where near as off-road oriented.
ok MJ...
Toyota lists it as an SUV on their website.
You better tell them to correct it.
Is that AC/DC playing in the background?
This new Lc300 looks hideous!
check again in 30 years
Excellent review
i used to like jeep, when they built real jeeps. Land cruiser is a Luxury vehicle, it should be compared with range rover
Dig deeper. A Toyota will always just be a Toyota no matter how luxury they try to make it look. Next time you hop in one, keep digging.
They should install the new hurrican engine in that Jeep ASAP. There is an offroad trim "overland" in Jeep GCL to make the comparison better.
Nice video
The 2.2 Tones towing capacity and 210 kw power output of the Jeep is within the specification range of the last V6 Toyota Kluger.
That Jeep is way better looking and better handling, not so boring as the Toyota
That Jeep looks great, I think one should get the lightest possible version, with that engine, which is very reliable.
I would get the Patrol anyway.
The LC is having mad features for offroading like atrc traction control ekdss MTS and more!
Crawl control too!
tbf, no matter how awesome the offroad features are, they won't beat good old lockers
Reminds me of the old comparisons of a Landrover and a Land Cruiser. These days the Land Rover is worthless and the Land Cruiser is worth a ton and still running strong.
But there is a difference between each segment
Lc is outdated but reliable..good at that price
Lr off road and is luxury status with loads of tech..good at that price
The LC compared to the Grand Waggoner would make more since
Idk, I believe the Lexus LX compared to the Grand Wagoneer would make more sence
@@mokseee i agree
That was a fair assessment.
LC days are gone. New technology will expose LC with sensors failing all the time.
Good luck
Either of these new vehicles would be great to own. But after the manufacturer's warranty ends, I would much rather be stuck with the Toyota.
LC will be long lasting until your great grandchild has their great grandchildren. That's fact
How tall is this guy? I'm a bit concerned at how close his head is to the C-pillar in the Toyota. In any event, the fact that the Jeep has a narrower bodes well for its off-road prowess. I also prefer its copious application of USB ports. These days with every passenger carrying his own personal handheld device, no vehicles can ever have too many USB ports. Rest assured the kids will never argue over who gets to use the charging ports next.
On the other hand, the Landcruiser has the clear advantage to back seat as far as entertainment goes; however, the quality of those monitor's display, is still undefined.
As for power plants, I'd like to see Jeeps new in-line 6 mated to an electric motor and applied across the range, and especially to the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer. Since the days of the high-output/high hp V-8s are coming to a close, that would be the most practicable route as a transition before fully EV automobiles.
Speaking of EV, it still needs at least another decade (or two) before they become mainstream and practical. At present, there's still just too many convenience obstacle to overcome. Speed of charging for one. As an apartment dweller, I don't get to plug-in my car for overnight charging. That means I need Stage 3 charging fast charging (which only a few vehicles have) just to make it practical. Another limitation is range, with anything under 300mi. being unacceptable. That's the minimum I would need since its just myself and one car has to do it all: daily commute and travel.
The first 2 minutes of this video basically won it.
I drive a Wrangler Rubicon, so disappointed. Its either in my driveway or at the dealer getting fixed. Regretting not buying a toyota product!
Jeep looks nice and sophisticated on the road I’ll definitely go with the Jeep ❤
I subscribed 👍🏻❤️
Are you making an off road video? Crawling and mudding please.
Land cruiser, land rover defender and lexus LX600 😊😊
Haha.. there is no comparison.. just consider Jeep reliability :D
Great review but I wouldn’t have either I have the new Land Rover Defender 👍🇦🇺
Jeep would've been smart to source an inline 6 turbo diesel for the global markets, even though it wouldn't sell in the US. Also, I'm surprised they didn't use a top level Overland trim for the comparison. It has taller tires (tyres 🥱) and better off-road chops.
Jeep is only good enough for 60,000km. Like they say YOU GO TO THE OUTBACK IN A JEEP BUT COME BACK IN A LANDCUISER.
This is like comparing dirt to gold
Land cruiser super
GCL seems more modern while LC looks bit outdated. LC wins if resale after 10 years is important, but GCL conquers if riding comfort for next 10 years is important.
Landcriser all day
land cruiser is for decades while jeep is for years. As somebody said review them after 20 years. Most probably only 1 will be in service by then and we know who.
The jeeps also come with a 5.7 v8
TOYOTA LANDCRUISER ❤👍🏻
What, no hemi?!
I prefer Jeep
With the waiting time of the Landcruiser, order both, use the jeep and trade it in on the Landcruiser. You would own the jeep for 2years before getting the Landcruiser.
TOYOTA made LAND CRUISER for driving in MUD , HILLS , SAND etc not for showroom's , stylish models or entertainment etc.
Jeep 💪❤️OIIIIIIIO
Where there was No land there was a Land cruiser
What are we comparing now?
LC is only comparable to Nissan patrol, and nothing else I guess.
LC is a practical SUV
I still can’t see why they do not send the lc to the usa
Toyota Japan seems to be making some trade offs regarding where some cars go to which countries like the All Wheel Drive Lexus IS350 goes to the States, don't find their way down under.
Still, GM has managed to make some hit icons like Cadillac Escalade 2021, C8 Corvette Z06 2023, GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate 2022 in few years....
Gotta service the LC every six months. That is enough to look elsewhere
The right title : "We comparing a toy to a truck" 😂😂😂
Stop calling the LC a toy
@@domonicjames137 i am not calling the land cruiser a toy mate. Are you serious?
This comparison video should have stopped at the torque difference
grand cherokee will be a different animal with the twin turbo inline 6cyl petrol putting out 373kw and 644nm
How can you even compare?😂 But any chgance I get to see a land cruiser being featured I will pause and have a look at it 😂
Even Jeep got surprised
Comparing Toyota LC to a Jeep GC is like comparing a diamond to cubic zirconia. Both look really nice but only one will stand the test of time no matter how many times you put it through its paces
Yeah? I see loads of old XJ Cherokees in Moab. Toyotas rusted away a long time ago.
If they were both the same price land cruiser is the winner
Probably Kluger could have handled that let alone prado
GWM buy 3 and your still saving money!'
Off road component of the test was comical. Anyone using those vehicles solely on those type of roads might as well spend their money on a luxury wagon. On a side note, I suspect the reviewer does not go camping, unless he intends to place a 240v fridge in the cargo area due to the factory GPO. Funny dude.
haha I was thinking the same thing. 12v fridges are used not 240v so why bother having a 240v in the boot when the most likely thing to be used in a car that can use a small 240v inverter is a laptop charger which means its much better placement in the back seats of the jeep
interior means nothing if its in the shop all the time. Id never ever buy anything but Japanese.
Unfair comparison, jeep has its amazing v8 5.7
The Jeep is the superior product here.
I prefer jeep with hemi over that pinta star and toyota
It's ridiculous to compare with LC. Because LC is the father of SUV wherever you go
Landcruiser also has insane resale value and reliability. Jeep is let down by powertrain, needs a V6 Turbo, V8 and a Diesel. Jeep reliability and service, notoriously bad.
Your right about Toyotas Dave. Saw 2 used Prados in a yard the other day for a smidge under AUD100K. Can't argue. But you see, I've driven a Prado it's a bloody barge. I wouldn't buy one at a third of that price. Drive a Prado then something like a Discovery 4 ( yes I know!). The driving experience doesn't compare. But hey obviously I'm not in the majority.
5:47 that and a 3.6L petrol V6 with half the land cruisers torque simply pushes someone towards the Land cruiser
Unfair comparison
This review is balanced. Comparing comfort on and off road, on road handling, off road capability, fuel economy and running costs. Thanks for the review.
A real man doesnt care about infotainment and digital gimmicks.
Want a computer? got a 3k rig at home
Such a shame Jeep didn't put a better engine in there.
It’s a waste of money to have the steering on the right
Land cruiser is the Conqueror while Jeep Gchegkee is just a farmer......
I put down payment on Jeep and luckily got delayed. After trying both the differences are days and nights when i tried the LC300 i fell in love. Got the higher trims of LC300 which has techs and premium materials more than the Jeep i was going to buy. It’s been couple of weeks with me and very happy with my purchase
You must’ve test drove the previous generation or bass grand Cherokee because the new Grand Cherokee has way more tech and far better premium materials than the Toyota
@Cristian Selfa yup, beautiful but the waiting list here is absurd, also for the LC300 but got lucky on this one.
Though I would have been happy to go with either one of them
@@khafrebevins3025 i kept the latest and highest trim of 2022 GC for a couple of days, beautiful no doubt just didn’t like the 3rd row seat and where i live they don’t offer the two rows. Still GC 3rd favorite after LC300 and defender
@Cristian Selfa i am in Saudi and the waiting list here is almost a year and a half for LC300
But i know a person who helped me get it earlier
344NM for the Jeeep, and at $155k????? That's less than my 10 year old Subaru, for a tenth of the price :D
All predictable comments from the "Toyophosi". Just to add some realism. Just done 2000k road trip the length of the NSW coast. I saw 3 broken down vehicles: all Toyotas. 2 LC200s and 1 Prado. Of course they probably just ran out of fuel...cough...cough, except for the one on the flat bed; and no it wasn't a used car transport.
Now of course there's a lot of Toyotas on the road and 6 out of 10 caravaners use 200s. But the way some people talk about them you'd think no Toyota ever breaks down ever.
If you want to go into the desert, take a Jeep. If you want to get out, take a Land Cruiser - old African saying
Just because it's Toyota, your review have to glorify it. And opposite to Jeep. Please just be fair because written reviews is dead. And clearly can see how Jeep is far luxurious and European than Toyota cheap plastic.
land cruiser
for come back home alive
There isn't even a comparison here. The pos jeep will end up in a landfill in no time.
Toyota more practical as usual. Jeep more fancy !!!
no diesel in the jeep sorry ...,GC and GC L they where based off the 4dr wrangler & gladiator pick up soild axel front and back maybe ,,but sorry we dont like or want indpended rear axle /air suspension ,3rd rows in a car camper , touring wagon, over lander ,off roader. we get no good off roaders in the US maybe the 4runner and Lexus GX460 rest suck
wagons or suvs not utes
Even thou I have a Jeep GC, I agree with your verdict. The standard 3.6L V6 is a good engine, but not for this price, stupid Jeep should have had the 5.7L hemi as the standard engine here, just can't understand their logic.
But wait until their new hurricane twin turbo six comes to Australia, it will blow the Landcruiser away.
I'm torn between Jeep GC summit reserve hemi 5.7 and Then new Landcruiser what is your opinion?
@@AliMayali The new Jeep GC summit reserve is a great SUV, but I'm sure if you live in Australia, the only engine available is the 3.6L V6 pentastar, so no 5.7L Hemi.
If the hemi was available I would go for the Jeep, but with only the 3.6 L V6, would go for the Toyota LC. If you are not going to tow, maybe the Jeep GC could be a good fit, because I think it looks better outside and especially inside.
If you could wait a little longer, Jeep have a new 3.0L twin turbo inline six coming out soon, looks like a ripper engine.
Mate hardly any part of the world has gas as cheap as the US. This makes a V8 very undesirable
When you had already made up your mind, you cant give a balanced review..Bummer!
Who in their right mind would buy the HEEP ?
I just bought one. An Overland with a number of Tech upgrades. It's a beautiful vehicle with the perfect balance of city slicker and rugged. The off-road chops are superb and the interior layout is very well thought out. It feels good to get back into an iconic American brand such as JEEP. Nothing out here is perfect. However this JEEP is well done.
@David Milner I did say who in their right mind ! Jeep have an awful reputation here in Australia , perhaps they are just not built tough enough for the extreme conditions we have . Most people who take the decision to buy one never buy another . Toyota all the way .
@Johnnie the Pom There is no dispute of Toyota's reputation for quality. At the end of the day, it's a preference. JEEP had some legacy issues over a decade ago that were addressed.
Jeep❤
Jeep, putting lipstick on a pig with Fiat reliability 😂
Toyota motor super World number 1.
Jeep win ,no doubt. Better looking, better interior , great reliable engine
