    In this video we're shooting out 8 of the most killer one-knob fuzz pedals on the market. For this demo we’re using a voodoo labs pedal power 2 plus isolated power supply with everything wired up atop a Purple Tolex Does It Doom Doomboard. The first six pedals in the chain are variations on the classic fuzz face based colorsound one-knob fuzz, with these last two being an octave distortion and an octave fuzz. We’re running everything into a ’69 Laney LBO 60, 60W supergroup set clean.

      Does It Doom? Just goes to show how many great choices there are on the market now a days. I’d say almost all them are a great choice for anyone’s rig. I’m fond of the Erupter from EarthQuaker. Love the artwork on that one as well. Plus seeing as how the founder of that pedal company lives not too far from my hometown I gotta represent. They make incredible pedals!

    I'm certainly biased since I have a Void Master, but I have to say it and the Erupter brought the tone today. I like their level of presence with the low tuned guitar without turning harsh. Just to throw it out there, the Void Master also sounds massive using E standard tuning. It's a really great pedal and Jason is a cool dude. He knows circuit design too because this thing is super quiet for the amount of gain it has

  • @ThomasHafemann

      I have the Voidmaster and the Four horsemen Massif by Frost Giant, they are both amazing and similar, yet have a slightly different sound to them. The Four horsemen has a more guttural sounding, grindier fuzz characteristic. The Voidmaster has a bit more clarity like you said, and a bit more dry, ripping quality to the fuzz. The Voidmaster also has a lot more volume on tap. Love them both. Fuzzlord, Frost Giant, Black Art, I have pedals from all of them and they all make incredible fuzz machines. Long Live the Pharoah Supreme.

    I dig the ones with a bit more mids to push them through in a mix like the fuzzlord an cathulu and that orange one was probably my favorite. It's very precise but still massive. The first was way to mid scouped at would literally disappear in a heavy mix in drop tunings without some extra boost or eq.

    The Destroyer is my pick. I like how crisp it sounds with the volume rolled off, and how huge it sounds when the swell comes in like a giant wave of sin. The red eye indicators are a nice touch. The Fuzzlord Void Master, the Cthulhu, and the Massif ran a close race for my #2 pick. Excellent demo!

    each pedal sounded absolutely feckin awesome (i want them all); each pedal emphasizes slightly different frequencies either subtly or bluntly to produce their different "tones" thinking that a few of those would be excellent layered track over track but even all of them stacked into a fuzzed up mess of gnarliness was something i could listen to & enjoy... however that would represent a significant finincial outlay will have to search for cheaper alternatives....

      Gonna be Frank. I see alot of love for fuzzlord here but that void doesnt sound like that pre production I can tell you that where that volume knob sits is BS as no fuzzlord I've ever owned had enough volume. As a matter of fact Blackhawks gandolf doesnt sound like what's depicted here. I'm calling BS.

    • @DoesItDoom
      @DoesItDoom  Před 4 lety

      BS as in what? There is zero post production-no gain adjustments, no compression, no normalization, no EQ adjustment, nothing. All pedals were set to register roughly the same output level on the audio interface, and no amp settings were adjusted in between. Sorry your ears don’t hear what you want them to hear. The Fuzzlord is the loudest on the board (aside from the Oath section of the Destroyer) and has its volume dialed back accordingly. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @historian3540
      @historian3540 Před 4 lety

      @@DoesItDoom there is video editing. It's easy to tell where you cut. Anyone who has owned these knows damn well what I'm talking about. Who do you think designed the massif circuit? I know. And it's not frost giant. Though they are friends. Just sick of this fuzzlord marketing shit. They are overpriced clones with basic bitch artwork. And I can tell you this I know damn well any blackhawk pedal has far more volume output than everyone of those except the BAT. Just save your shit for someone who doesnt have a degree in sound design and production from a well known media institute. Kick rocks Steve.

    For me, a lot of them are just a little more than I need in terms of filth. I had it narrowed down to my 3 favorites half way through and the last couple riffs settled it. I'm glad that I ended up liking the Void Master the best considering I own it. I think its something with the clarity that I like about it. But if I wanted more dirt, The Massif would be my next choice.

  • @Polidavey48

    they all sound amazing, but just as I expected, the Destroyer wins it for me... its why this pedal will NEVER leave my pedalboard. Black Arts Toneworks forever!! and you have some variety with the Destroyer ... you can use the Oath side for your main tone, and hit the Ritual side for occasional leads...
    one of the main reasons why I love B.A.T. pedals so much is - not only do they sound heavy as fuck, but they are SO DAMN LOUD!! the output on most of their products is through the roof. AND, most importantly, there's excellent note clarity, and they sit really well in a full band mix. they cut through amazingly well. I can't tell you how many fuzz and distortion and overdrive pedals I've tried that sounded phenomenal on their own, but when I went to use them at my band rehearsal, they got lost in the mix, and for me, when that happens, there's usually no amount of dialing them in that will help.
    aside from the Destroyer, I think the Fuzzlord comes in second, for me... it sounds really full and massive, and looks like it has a TON of output on tap.

    destroyer and void master are both great starting points to shape your tone around. void master might win by a nose cause that dude's vids are cool and the artwork is less "food truck trying to look like a tattoo shop."

    Great demo! It's good to have so many options. There are an infinite number of combinations if we consider guitars, amps, speakers so it's great to have Options. I like the high mids of the Fuzzlord, but I'd love to have more than one so I can use them in different moments: some sounds better for in the face riffs other for a big heavy atmosphere

  • @v8dreaming
    @v8dreaming Před 4 lety +1

    Massif and Destroyer, for me. One knob octave fuzzes don't do it for me. Also feel like the Void Master and Cthulhu are over priced, compared to the others. The only one that should be over $150 is the Destroyer, because you're getting two pedals in one housing.

    Another great video. To me the Fuzz Lord, then Destroyer and Erupter. To me those 3 sound more balanced. And the reason I don’t give the Destroyer #1, is because although it is a one knob, it has more features to shape the tone, nevertheless great pedal.

    • @DrDizzleFrizzle
      @DrDizzleFrizzle Před 4 lety +1

      One thing to keep in mind with the Erupter is that it has a bias knob, not a level. It's permanently on max, but the bias allows for a LOT of different fuzz sounds.
