      Thank you for the words of support Jason! I did a lot of research before going to my first one and in this video tried to answer some of the questions I had when trying to figure out if these events were a good fit for my art style. Hope we'll meet again at another one!

    I can't afford original art but I always buy signed prints at Artist Alley. Print hunting is my main goal at Comic Cons. And it's always nice to compare the print with original artwork.

    Hi Chloe! -.ZeS.- (Jim) from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad).
    Great video!!! THANK you very much for sharing!
    Although here in Spain there are way fewer opportunities for artists to present their works in events than in the US or Canada, it is always good to learn just in case an opportunity arises.
    I am a Wildlife and Nature focused amateur Artist in graphite, charcoal and ink (love the medium), as well as growing in Watercolor and Gouache.I am currently building my portfolio so I can start presenting it from an amateur perspective (my Artistic journey is for the love of doing Art, not from a professional standpoint), but would still love to present my artwork and learn from the experience in the future.
    So, again, thank you for sharing all this info and I hope you are very successful!!!! I joined your CZcams channel a few days ago as a subscriber because I appreciate the way you present your videos as well as the content within.
    Good Luck!!!
    Cheers from Sunny Spain!

      I encourage you to apply! The first one is usually more of a learning experience. If there is a local one near you to keep your initial expenses low, I'd say go for it - it's fun!

      @@longstrideillustration I plan to when I have my work down more solidly. Also, I had te impression you're actually in Canada so attending in Toronto isn't too difficult. But what about crossing the border, bringing salable items into the US, etc? I'm in New York so traveling to Toronto would be an option and my husband and I really love that city! Also, are you teaching in person or online yet? Thank you!

      @@cheralynn4417 From the US to Canada seems to not be an issue as there were several from NY State at the Toronto Comiccon whom had been going for many years. Though it's best to confirm this with authorities beforehand in case. I'm working on an online course for pen & ink, yes, updates in my newsletter if you'd like to keep in touch :)

    Interesting. I like pen and ink, but what keeps me from really getting into it, is that I have heard that it never sells, even with color it is considered second rate when compared to oil paintings or that it is seen as a sketch because of the material. So my question is would you recommend focusing on pen and ink given the perceptual problems? What are your experiences with black and white vs color? Does the subject matter play the ore important part? Do prints sell, given the medium? BTW the shoes are cool

    • @longstrideillustration
      @longstrideillustration  Před 8 měsíci

      Hi, if you're asking about what sells at conventions, from my experience and what I've heard from other vendors, it depends on the show, the crowd, your setup, your marketing, your selling ability, and to a degree the subject of your art. The medium is less important if the execution is adequate. Fans of comic art do appreciate black and white pen and ink. For what sells generally, from your web platform or from galleries, there's a lot of factors involved (including luck), but again the medium plays only a small part of the big equation (in my opinion). Comfy shoes :)

    Thank you for all what you are sharing.
    Could I ask you when it comes to printing your artwork . What is the process. Is it lithography or a digital printer that you out source ? What paper stock is best to print on. Kindest regards. Used to live in Quebec as well many years a go. I miss my old small town when growing up there.

    • @longstrideillustration
      @longstrideillustration  Před 7 měsíci +1

      For high quality prints, I send them to the www.thegicleefactory.com/ (based in Quebec City), giclees are produced with an inkjet printer on archival art paper. That's the quality of prints I like to sell from my online store on my website, but for conventions I use a local quick-print service which is honestly just as good when you select "extra black ink" on card stock, turns out awesome.

    • @longstrideillustration
      @longstrideillustration  Před rokem +1

      I wish! Unfortunately, conducting commerce B2C (business to customer) in the US from another country is highly regulated. It's easier online but in-person it's complicated and not worthwhile for a solo-preneur. I'd get turned around at the border (without the proper paperwork). The other way around, coming into Canada with goods for sale is no problem, so you are welcome to come to the Toronto Fan Expo 😀
