  • As promised, I would like to show you this magnificent early 19th century 9 keys clarinet in boxwood. Perfect for this Rossini final variation even if the challenge is really tough 😓 and in a very unusual orchestration, I admit that the modern bass clarinet (that I had to tune like crazy to reach 430Hz...) is everything but authentic, but that was the only solution I found to have a bass line at the good pitch 🤓👍🏻✨

    I'm studying this piece for an exam to take at the conservatory, and seeing the ease with which you play it warms my heart. Congratulations indeed.

    Very impressed that nothing sounds rushed. When playing is rhythmic and controlled, it sounds so much fleeter! It's better to move the listener to admiration than it is to 'stun' their sensibilities.

    Bravi !!!
    I think the period clarinet, especially 9 key's one is super difficult to play rossini's final variation !!! And I have never listened such a well-tuned period instruments✨Fantastic😍
    Moncieur Baldeyrou, merci beaucoup🍀

      かやみー thank you very much ! This instrument is really in tune and very smooth for intonation corrections, the most difficult is fingerings but you get used to, it’s really possible to play it, you should try :-))) all best !

      Djibril Montaville it’s really different, blowing, fingerings, resonance, but it’s not necessarily more difficult, just different, you should try it ! Thank you for your kind words 😊

    En tout cas merci pour cette nouvelle version qui devrait combler de nombreux clarinettistes et mélomanes...
    Bien amicalement avec admiration.

    Bravo! As if this variation was not already difficult enough to play on the modern clarinet, to do it on the period clarinet with lesser keys and worse intonation, simply amazing :). Perfect playing maestro!

    • @nicolasbaldeyrou1
      @nicolasbaldeyrou1  Před 4 lety

      brentylol thank you for your kind words ! I wouldn’t say this instrument is so out of tune, it’s just a different way of blowing and it’s maybe easier to correct with the embouchure, but you’re right, fingerings are a nightmare 😁

    Please tell me you that you have recorded the I, T and V in full (I can't find it!). This has opened my ears to period clarinets and as a piece of music I've listened to many hundreds of times over the last few decades, is probably now my favorite version especially with the orchestration. I have the score I bought in the 1980s - I'll get back to it - give me another 200 years! Many thanks, J.

Do have any tips on how to practice this piece? And where did you get the arrangement for clarinet quartet, I love it! keep up the good work, I really look up to you!
