Hello Taylor [Family Reactions] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air (Germany) in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Following the success of Beste Zangers show, Floor performed a series of solo concerts in the Netherlands in early 2020 with songs from her entire career (After Forever, Revamp, Northward, Nightwish, Beste Zangers) following that the last and the largest concert, at AFAS Amsterdam, to be professionally recorded and broadcast online, with the support of a crowdfunding campaign. After several rescheduling, due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the concert took place at the beginning of September 2021 in 3 consecutive days. Floor and Nightwish run in a lane of their own.The bassist is also a world class vocalist. Together they are gold.
Sadly Marco is no longer with the band. The new bass player does not appear to sing. Troy's vocals have been expanded.
Don't forget the fact that this was song 13 out of 15 on the Wacken 2013 concert set list.
Keeping your voice that good (yes, those last notes..) is a testament to the singer's quality.

Wow it's usually the US reactors who mention Amy Lee of Evanescence as it's their only reference point. Floor Jansen has so much empathy, warmth, depth and range to her voice that she is almost without comparison. She has her own CZcams channel where you will find chats with fans, vocal coaching and some amazing covers. And Nightwish is the band that is a perfect fit for her with the fantastic song writing of Tuomas Holopainen, keyboards. This is song 13 of a 15 song set in front of 82,000 at Wacken 2013 after she had been with the band for only ten months.
Comparing Amy to Floor is like comparing a toy piano to a real grand piano. Amy is a good singer but Floor is beyond human. Other than my immortal and bring me to life, I don't think I heard any of Evanescence's other songs becoming hits, whereas Nightwish have a huge catalogue of hits, though mainly in Europe

There are few songs she doesn't do better than those before her and in many she excels.
A fantastic composer, a marvelous band and an excellent singer, have found each other!
Well, because it's by far the closest reference they have. It's only natural. Just the closest, still very different and it doesn't take long to any reactor to realize Floor is better.

I love how new people are raving about the intro only to be totally speechless by the angelic voice of Floor cutting through. While in my opinion there aren't any bad NW songs this one surely showcases a lot of Floor's abilities. She is a storyteller, and she uses her voice in whatever way she feels is appropriate, from growls to falsetto. She is probably one of the most versatile singers ever. But every musician on that stage is just as good as she is and they make it work as a team while enjoying themselves. Tuomas is the one who writes just about everything, and there aren't many songs the same, they are all different, you'll see. Most bands have a songwriter, NW has a composer.

Funny you said you were “floored” because the goddess’ name you heard is Floor Jansen and you just had your first “Floor-gasm”. Hi Taylor, i was there at the Concert in Wacken in the second Row front of Stage. There where 75000 Metalheads behind me and i was absolutly flashed by this Song. I was not the only One who had Tears running gown my Face, because there was so much Happyness, lot of Fun,Prsce and Love. I felt like becoming a Injection of Adrenaline.
Welcome to Nightwish and thanks for checking out one of my recommendations. I'm not a metalhead and when it comes to heavy growling I'm out, but symphonic metal and especially Nightwish is a different story. They have great arrangements and how can anyone not like Floor's amazing vocals? She also has solo songs so you can even enjoy her independently from Nightwish. I'm not a Nightwish expert, just someone who enjoys their music, so I'll leave it to the Nightwish Army to give you more information about the band. I don't often subscribe after a "First Reaction", but when I see someone who reacted the same way I did, it was a no brainer. This song is just the tip of the iceberg. The 13th song of this amazing Wacken 2013 Open Air Festival. The 15 song set is just as amazing. Each song different than the last. So happy you have 11.3K subs who might have never seen this band. The Nightwish journey is one of life´s truly great journey´s. There is nothing that comes close in my own experience. Seeing this perfrmance for the first time changed my life in the most profound way. Chronic illness had been a big part of my past decade. A very sad chapter that ended the moment I seen this performance. I learn´t that I can live in happiness and experience the beauty of this world despite ongoing issues that I have. It´s truly remarkable what listening to Nightwish and the vocalist Floor has done to me. Unlocked my soul and given me eternal happiness and peace in my heart. I would love to see the rest of your journey :)

Nightwish will always smash any expectations, they are incredibly versatile, from Symphonic Metal, Power Metal, Folk Metal and just plain Folk music - topped off with a classically trained singer who can do everything from Opera to Death Metal growls 🤘
Floor jansen the Queen of metal ♥ is a classic trained and professional voice coach with at least 20 years experience and can do anything from death metal growling to high opera notes and different styles and languages, her previous bands After Forever, Northward and Revamp and she was also featured in several Ayreon live shows and a Dutch reality show Beste zangers in 2019 and 2021, she is married to the drummer of the band Sabaton ♥
This was song number 13 of 15 in the concert, so Floor had been singing just like this for close to 90 minutes before this came up in the set list. You’ll discover a few things as you listen to more Nightwish:
1. Floor can sing literally anything…every time you think you’ve heard it all, she’ll surprise you.
2. While Amy Lee/Evanescence is the only point of reference many people have the first time they hear Nightwish, as you listen to more, you’ll find less and less to compare the two.
3. No two songs really sound the same…they are very versatile and diverse.
4.:Marko, the bass player, is also an amazing vocalist.
5. There is a reason Tuomas, the keyboard player who writes the majority of the music and lyrics, is called “the metal Mozart,”

One of my favourite Nightwish songs 🤘💕 Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) is behind of this great symphonic metal music.
Gabriel Bardac will come along with all sorts of background on the band along with suggested songs, but this band makes no bad music. Floor Jansen, 3rd and current lead singer for Nightwish is the greatest most versatile singer I have ever heard. I recommend "Ever Dream" from Wacken 2013 next, you will be amazed. I have been listening to this band and woman for 2 years now, and they continue to amaze me. I liked and subbed for you Nightwish journey.

This is Symphonic Metal, the merge of symphony and metal music. Often built in the chapters, and it is music that are composed. When you gets a little further into Nightwish, you might want to look closer into the lyrics also. Deep - very deep poetic lyrics, often complexed with bits from poets or scientists built in or referred to. The Nightwish Army will help you digest and understand - just ask. The lyrics have a red line, but are also written to individually interpreted. The main composer and writer are Tuomas (keyboard) ofyen referred as The Metal Mozart or The modern Mozart - and that's not far off.
The musicians are extremely tight, never overdoing anything or showing of - it's all about telling the story.
The singer Floor - is by far - the most versatile, powerful, skilled and talented singer you will ever meet. Her ability to express emotions and passions are beyond words. She can literally make you feel anything - anything!!
And you have only scratched the surface of Nightwish's and Floor's capabilities - 10 - 12% at most, in this song.
And this one is not even one of their masterpieces!!!
On this concert she only did old songs not written to her - but she certainly made them her own (she wasn't even an official member yet!).
From 2015 all the new songs are written to her, and Tuomas has even managed to challenge her a few times (which she loves, the only way to improve she says) - so you have your lifes musically experience heading your way 😉
Rumors says that Floor is from the Andromeda galaxy, sent to Earth to make sure that the sun raises every morning - there might be some truth in that statement 😉
And don't worry - no Nightwish song are alike - they will blow you away each and every time.
By the way - the singers in Symphonic Metal are in general in a league of their own. - but Floor is unique.

Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. One if my favorite albums I've ever owned is _Fallen,_ by Evanescence. I've played it over and over and over. I, too, love Amy Lee's voice! _However..._ as much as I love Amy Lee (and I do!), in my opinion, she doesn't even come close to Floor's power, versatility, and vocal color. But that's just me. I continue to wear out the _Fallen_ album when the mood strikes me.
No offense to Amy , who is a fantastic vocalist BUT she's not on the same level as Floor Jansen as you will find out , when you continue this journey .
There one of the few bands that are better live and as for Floor , she's also better live , i think she is truly Alive when shes on stage , born to be on one ......ive never heard an off performance by her .

Haha..your face said it all! Welcome to Nightwish! Floor Jansen (Floor from Flora, the Goddess of Flowers and Spring) was only 10 months with the band at the moment of this concert. She stepped in halfway the US leg and halfway NW's worldtour after the band and their 2nd singer parted ways. They made a docu about it "Please learn the setlist in 48 hrs", interesting to watch!
Wacken is a small village in the north of Germany and every 1st week of August hosts the Wacken Open Air Festival, the largest metal festival in the world. Wacken is situated in a cattle region hence the bull's logo.
On October 9th 2013 Floor became an official member of the band together with your countryman Troy Donockly, their 6th member, a multi-instrumentalist and singer but famous for playing the Uilleann (Ill-en) pipes, the Irish bagpipes.
