If you were to do it again, do you think the 1" wide roll would be easier to wrap the header? Also a suggestion I'm pulling from bicycle handlebar wrapping, starting at the joints and finishing at the mount flange, then from the collector up will have the overlaps in a direction that wouldn't catch or hold water. Think overlapping like shingles on a roof. Looking forward to a follow-up video when you think you've got a good idea of how well it dropped under hood temps, how well it's holding up, the idea that they cause the exhaust to rot from the inside out etc..

HOT tip- use regular plastic zip ties at first. Much easier and quicker to work with, so you can focus more on the wrapping. Then you can even do the painting over the plastic zips, let dry, remove the plastics one by one (if you really want to go all the way then spray each "ring" of bare wrap as your remove the zips), and finally install your stainless steel zip ties.

A couple Irwin style quick clamps really help if you are doing this by yourself. Get the first couple wraps started then clamp it and anywhere you need to stop and make a cut clamp it so it stays tight until you can strap it down. Like an extra hand. Sometimes trying to keep it tight and neat while getting the band clamp on can be frustrating, the quick clamps really help with that.

Good on ya Matt! Practice the easy stuff first. I have been considering (read procrastinating) on this for a long time. I have an actual header that I paid a fair amount of money for . . Not the OEM tubular manifold. So that is part of why I have been putting it off. Gale Banks says I will void the warranty if I wrap. So-o-o, I guess I will be "considering" a bit longer .. . Great as usual, though. Really appreciate the quality and pleasant entertainment value of what you do here.

With the other stuff, the titanium wrap, what did you mean you have to paint it first/ added processes? Do you paint the wrap before and after? or are you saying you have to paint the header, then wrap then paint again? I have a roll of this in my garage i want to wrap my muffler under my cab (a TJ) so the tunnel on the passenger side does not get so hot. I have no AC and in the summer the floor/tunnel is so hot. Thanks in advance for the info.

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  Před 2 lety +1

with the titanium if you want to paint it, you have to installthe header (unpainted) , paint it, then start the car and let it warm up to very hot, then let it cool, then paint it again, then repeat 3 times. This is because (as per the manufacturer) "it doesn't absorb the paint very well" and must be done in stages with high heat inbetween. seems like a pain to me.

Quick question: why doesn't anyone make prewrapped headers with a paint over it to preserve it?

Hi hope I can find an answer. I put a aftermarket full exhaust on my razor to and wrapped it ,to hopefully help with the heat. Afterwards I started it and the head pipes started to smoke . More so on one side than the other . I thought it was gonna catch on fire ,so i turned the razer off. It didnt do this with the new exhaust before i wrapped it. Anyone know why or what to do?
I didn't wet it nor spray silicone. Wrap is by design engineering.

Ya, it does that. It'll burn off and stop smoking after a few hours

Idk about the "tightening tool" being a pro tip..I think a pro would just use some needlenose pliers to tighten the zips, instead of ruining a good socket...just my thoughts tho

I know several ppl that have tried header wrap . All 3 had the same problem . The header tubes got so hot they melted because of the wrap ! 2" slits opened up on the tubes . Instant leak . Couldn't see the leak though because a the wrap . What a frickin mess that was all 3 times ! Never again !

I don't think titanium version needs to be damped, fiberglass does.

    Mr Bleeping dude,
I have a BETTER way to get a wrap done !!!!
I give my retired neighbor 50 bucks cash only and about a week later I get the absolutely most beautiful perfect rap you have ever seen I mean it's almost as if he took some kind of measuring instrument and measure the overlap layer by layer and his trick for going around obstacles is amazing it comes out really beautiful and I didn't do a darn thing so that's my take on how to wrap or should I say that's a wrap 😂👍🏽

Your thought about white wrap & black hi temp paint is backward. Header wrap should be of a light color to allow you to spot oil leaks on the header. Same reason you shouldn’t paint a engine block black.

I took my wrap off after a number of years and the amount of rust it caused almost destroyed them.

Paid big $$ to have this done, and BIG let down that led to problems with my race machine. Stick to header wrap.
