Alita: Battle Angel is a 2019 American cyberpunk action film based on Japanese manga artist Yukito Kishiro's 1990s series Battle Angel Alita and its 1993 original video animation adaptation, Battle Angel. It was directed by Robert Rodriguez, produced by James Cameron and written by Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis. Rosa Salazar stars through performance-capture animation as Alita, a cyborg who awakens in a new body with no memory of her past and sets out to uncover her destiny. Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson star in supporting roles.
Announced in 2003, production was repeatedly delayed due to Cameron's work on Avatar (2009) and its sequels. After years of development hell, Rodriguez was announced as Alita's director in April 2016, with Salazar cast as the lead the following month. Principal photography began in October 2016 in Austin, Texas, mostly at Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios, and lasted until February 2017.
Alita: Battle Angel had its world premiere at The Leicester Square Theater in London on January 31, 2019, and was released in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan on February 5, 2019, marking Chinese New Year. It was released in the United States on February 14, 2019, by 20th Century Fox in RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, ScreenX, and IMAX 3D formats. It is the first film produced by Lightstorm Entertainment since Avatar, and the last film released by 20th Century Fox before the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney. The film grossed over $404 million worldwide, making it Rodriguez's highest-grossing film, but with a reported break-even point of $350-500 million, there is debate over whether it was profitable. It received generally mixed reviews from critics, who praised Salazar's performance, the action scenes and the visual effects, but criticized the screenplay.

I cannot emphasize enough how fantastic this movie was. I've probably seen it at least 7 times. There's literally only 2 movies where the lead role was a woman and was not WOKE!
Alita Battle Angel and Wonder Woman.
Both did amazing jobs and showed what true woman power was! Alita was the first true live action movie of an anime or Manga to successfully do it right. Amazing story and amazing actors. Alita 2 needs to come.
I was sceptical but after seeing it about 9 weeks ago I loved the movie. She is a superb character.
yeeees my thoughts EXACTLY!! and actually this movie is probbably the MOST EMPOWERING woman movie out there, but she is elegant beautifull brave and just gorgeous. Plus there is no men hatered in the movie, men are portrayed like men as well. Its a gorgeous movie. I love it

From the moment I first saw it I was hooked. I have watched it so many times and enjoyed it every one of them. I am looking forward to delving deeper into the story and glad the original actors should be in it. Go Alita. 🖖🌹

I've been eagerly anticipating Alita 2 for a long time. "Battle Angel" is still one of my favorite movies. James Cameron and his team have made some disappointing movies.
I really hope he takes great care in making Alita 2. I'm so glad Rosa Salazar stuck it out. Not like George Miller really blow it with Mel Gibson, and ruined Mad Max for Australians for ever.

as long as they dont go woke I'll a billion percent be at the theaters for this. this was perfect writing of a female action heroin. and a stellar portrayal by the actors/actresses. you got to see where she got her skills from, her struggles, her weaknesses, and then we watched her conquer some of them.

The first one was so new and different that it was awesome. But now that the world has been established the second one will have to rely on the story to make it good.. I can see so many ways this could all go south. I hope it's great but my guess is that they will go out of their way to make it even more outrageous and had a thin story that is unmemorable. Lots of great effects and action but little else. Like so many others.
