    This is such a nice setup. I'm new to the Mevo world for streaming ball games but upgraded my setup to utilize the GL-MT3000 Beryl AX wireless router and Belkin USB-C to Ethernet adapter after my first 2 weekends just using a hot spot + wifi. The video quality, stream stability and "set and forget" was so much better with this setup. My VZN hotspot was able to feed the router w/ a tethered connection (and received power from the router itself on the same connection), the router and mevo were fed power by my 20kmAh battery (the mevo via the Belkin power/ethernet adapter) and the mevo received ethernet connection direct from the router with a short cat6 cable. Just absolutely great setup. I had full bar wireless to the corner outfield fence (325ft) and could walk around wherever I wanted while doing game changer. Thank you for all the work you put into testing and improving these setups, it helped me a ton.

    Jason, you can scope the area and your relative signal strength using that APP I turned you on to, Just stand with your phone at the spot where your camera is and you can read your network's signal strength in dB broken down by device (hub, extender) and see all the other networks their selected channel and any conflicts. Then reconfigure your network's channel use to minimize any interference.

  • @superbmediacontentcreator

    Jason, there are a couple of aspects to RF transmission/reception technology that you did not explore. First off is the height of your hub. Simply put it needs to be as high off the ground and/or related to the camera/nodes as possible. I have put "Cheesplates" on my hubs to allow them to be attached to 1/4"#20 devices such as light stands. Some of your glitching and ghosting are being caused by timing/data issues introduced by reflections off the ground (even people) which is why higher is better as it eliminates these aberrations. Extenders and relays also eliminate wind issues which can blow the signal creating timing issues and some of your glitching. So the phrase should be "higher is better but also shorter (distance) is better."
    There is also the concept of "Ground plane" but this is another aspect that I also solve in my mounting technology. I also use WiFi relays or "Extenders" which are all DC powered and this further solves any signal problems.
    You are lucky in that you are operating in the easiest environment (outdoors in the open) to work in but in my world, (as you know I am a "for hire" production service) it is the worst of conditions which are Wedding, political and music performance venues.

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  Před rokem +1

      I can’t imagine trying to stream in changing venues where people are always obstructing line of sight. You’re right, sports streaming has this great advantage of being able to elevate to keep obstructions to a minimum. Thanks for sharing the wisdom!

      @@JasonHoffmanYT Ha, ha, ha... I thrive on challenging engineering and production challenges and yes you are right about places where if there are 50 people in the club or church that are all on the house WiFi if there are 1500 people in the room then there are 1500 people on the house WiFi so there is a lot of RF just floating out there. Getting things high up is the real key and I sometimes use a laser to make sure that the cameras are in the line of sight with my hub or extenders.
      I use the same hub as you are since it is terrific and also will run on a USB power bank that is the same as I run the cameras, it does lack some range which and again can be improved with better quality antennas as well as their placement.
      I use Netgear relay/extenders since their antennas are removable (there may be other brands too) so you can put extensions on the antenna and tape the antennas to hang from the ceilings of rooms. A 25 ft extension will let you put the base on the floor and tape the antennas high up. I also use a specially polarized (horizontal or verticle) antenna which are cheap and puts your signal transmission out of phase with the rest of all the guests/fans.crowd/etc in the area. A couple of links are below. The most common WiFi bands are 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz so the 2.4-5.8 GHz RC antennas are perfect. The bottom line is that for very little you can substantially improve the signal you have as the antennas from the factory hub and extenders are made to meet a product price and not optimize performance. You will also gain 3-9 dB in signal strength and since all Hubs and so forth are made to meet FCC specs they are all the same so antennas are the only way to "supercharge" your system.
      From my phase testing the cameras are using unidirectional antennas and if your system is vertical it will be 180 degrees out of phase with the house WiFi and the MEVO system will be more solid signal-wise. I would also think about using some small "horn" or Yagi directional antennas which might help your more distant cameras. In any case, it is all worth testing. I think you may have a wind issue(s) in your application too and some 240-degree pad antennas might be the ticket for you. The key is to think of your production area as a drum and to saturate that drum with your signal as well as alter it as opposed to the signals in that box.
      Circular polarized 9 dB antenna

    Given that the flint is supported by smoothwan, I wonder if there is more gain with that router to get better distance. I don't need distance in my setup, but it would be an interesting test. One other thing you forgot...interference. I tested my Hollyland Mars Pro distance for an ultimate frisbee livestream. Then, everybody showed up and the players showed up, and it was unusable. I had to use high gain antennas to get it to work.
    A great feature for the mevo multicam would be audio EQ processing. My atem mini extreme allows me to do this and I can cut out the wind by minimizing those low frequency sounds.

    Jason, just wondering if you have done (will do) this kind of test using a phone-hotspot tethered to the Slate router? The reason I ask - I live in western Canada and stream baseball and hockey. My telcom provider's mifi hotspots only support 4G but I sometimes use my iPhone as a hotspot tethered to a laptop. That way, I can often get a 5G connection and good speeds that allow me to stream 1080 60 fps. I'm curious if a phone hotspot will give you the same sort of stable connection with the Slate as your mifi. And, thanks for all of the incredibly informative videos you produce! - Rob

Used multicam app on iPad & output to Streamlabs OBS on my laptop. It works but portability may become an issue, so I have decided to go with SidelineHD and multicam on just the iPad. A problem that I am running into is output quality. Multicam is only allowing me to stream at 480p. I would like to at least get that to 720p. Any suggestions?
