I am a self taught mechanic of over 30 years in the field. Helping people save money and stay safe on the road is what I am here for. If I can pass that along in my videos, that would make me feel even more accomplished. I am rather old school and do not really do things by the book. I do not claim to make "Instructional" videos. My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Please use saftey and knowledge when doing your own repairs. ~ Ben - MegaMiles

I'm putting in a new rack and a timing chain at the same time as I have to lower the sub-frame for both procedures. Thanks for the video, this helps a lot!!!
Im glad it helps! Thanks for watching!
I paid $300 and the mechanic took about an hour, and he was so professional.
🤔 thatd Id have to see in person to believe. Its a 4.5 hour job by book. Let me know what his shortcuts are, Id love to know.
Id charge $300 an hour too if I could do a 4.5 hour job in an hour.
Yeah nonsense…..
Thanks for this! I found it easiest to get the 2 passenger side and drivers side forward rack bolts from the top.
Thanks for watching!
@@MegaMilesBen Hello We're you address please
I like the sped up editing and great camera angles. Great channel! We need more like it
Thank you!!
great video, it inspired me to farm it out to a local mechanic for $800 labor me buying the new rack and outer tie rod ends and Honda power steering fluid for $300.😀
$800 labor??? 😮
Did you take it to a dealership or what?
Muchas gracias y felicidades por tu gran video y trabajo un ```10''''''''' o mas. Sigue así,desde hoy subscriptor
Great video. Recommend adding wrench and socket sizes here and there to improve even further. Loved watching it and completed job myself.
Thank you for the suggestions and for watching!
Nice to have a lift. I gotts do it on the floor with jack stands😕
Yea, I worked on my home garage floor for 10 years to obtain this shop. Its been very well worth the hard work to get here.
$1600 job a mechanic quoted me for my 2010 3.5 V6 coupe
Hope this helps you.
👍
Is it really necessary to mess with the frame? I've been checking the repair manual and it doesn't mention anything about lowering the frame.
There's one thing I don't understand. If u were to change the hose you don't need to remove the rack, so in that case it would very helpful to disconnect every bolt and connection you can from above before touching anything under the car.
It gives me access and clearance.
The rack was leaking. The main purpose was to change the rack. When changing just the rack, youd disconnect the lines at the rack, not above.
You my friend are a professional!! Beyond my ability for sure. 2 questions what is the going price for that job & I hear a creeking noise when turning wheel does this sound like the issue? 250,000 miles never had issue until i did a fluid flush now I hear creeking. I used Prestone fluid for Asian cars just bought Honda fluid doing again hope it helps.
I dont talk labor on youtube. My shop is not your normal shop, Im discounted to help the community.
I wouldnt be able to diagnose that for you on youtube either. I would start with a full flush and use honda power steering fluid to start with. Power steering usually whines. Struts and bushings creak.
Woww man! You are the master at that. I’m having the same problem with my 2000 CRV and I hope my mechanic can get it done as easily and quickly as you did that. Work smarter not harder. I’m impressed! Can I ask…Exactly how long did it take you to do the job from start to finish? Cause I was told that takes about a day and half, if not two days to complete.
Book time is only 4.5 hours.
Thanks for watching!
@@MegaMilesBen Thank you for allowing and showing how is done thank you
Two questions… is the R&P electrically assisted on the 2010 CRV? And, do you think this could be done without putting on a lift?
Im not sire, this one wasnt.
Ive done many racks on my back but you need to have the car up high (3ton jack stands are good) and be set up with extra jacks for lowering the subframe. It definately is a much harder job but yes, possible.
So im doing this in my 09 Odyssey and the service manual says to take out the steering wheel, but i can't figure out why? Is the seat belt trick a workaround? Only thing I can think is that they suggest removing it so it doesn't turn
Theres usually a couple reasons... the clock spring and air bag. Disconnect the battery and wait about 3 minutes, thatll disable the air bag. As for the clock spring, as long as you dont turn the wheel while its apart, it wont be an issue. I use the seatbelt to hold the wheel in place while working.
@@MegaMilesBen I might just do that instead then 👍
What was the reason for replacing the steering gear?
Leaks
Not sure if I missed it but did you cradle the engine?
No, Ive never needed to. Keeping pole jacks or jacks on the subframe and leaving the front subframe bolts attached supports everything.
I am sefl taught too
I did go to a community college for 2 years. Learned the basics but after that its pretty much been my own doing with some tips and tricks handed down to me here and there.
I wish youtube had been around when I was younger, wouldve made things a lot easier 🤣
Ben, sorry for off topic
How often do you see cracks in the brake pads like this?
czcams.com/video/1ffUehkOpuA/video.html
Thanks!
Not like that. Thats a factory defect. Its normal to have some cracks on the part of the pads that touches the rotor due to age.
Ive never persoanlly seen disc brake pads crack in that style.
@@MegaMilesBen Thank you!
I believe , I saw that one time on OEM pads of 2012 Toyota Yaris HB, but not 100% positive
just in case you see this brand name, be aware!
