UP 6930 East - Illinois Railway Museum

- UP DDA-40X 6930 heads east at the Illinois Railway Museum. This is not what it looks like! The 6930 is being pushed by SP 1518. Also, 6930 sports a nice RS5T horn that is louder than heck!
It's connected, MU'd, to the second unit which supplies the air and electrical to the lead unit. The same way a railroad would use a dead unit, or slug, as a leader. Pretty nifty setup
I say it is good to see this thing out on the mainline regardless of whether it is actually operating. I really hope they bring 6930 out again this year!

Maybe some day we'll see this engine running again, but it was nice to see moving running or not.
The quality matches perfect with this video! It reminds me when the time Union Pacific used the Mighty DDA40X Locomotive, This looks like a clip of a train going through a crossing with an actual working DDA40X Locomotive, Sadly this one isn't operating.
I hope they restore her to working order.
I agree this was a nice horn, a very loud leslie horn! It literally shook the ground. I think the prime movers on the 6930 are frozen so I'm not sure if it will ever operate alone again. I'm not too sure if they can fix that.

It would most likely be during Diesel Days. It did not run at all last year, however, so we'll see this year.
I wish this one could run again someda, but it is just being pushed by the second engine.

6930 Will no longer be in use. The IRM has decided to put it to rest they plan to repaint it and put it on display.
IRM was running a photo freight this day for Diesel Days.
You got a 500k? cause that is what it is going to cost, they need to do a complete overhaul of her before they even think of letting her breath a little bit. I would love to see it happen, but honestly I dont think that is going to happen any time soon, I have heard roomers that might not happen at all and that IRM is planning on selling her.
Well if they need new prime movers im sure they can find a pair if they look for locos that are ready to be scraped.

Sort of. The IRM fixed her cab up so she can MU with another diesel and be used as a cab car, but her own prime movers remain out of commission.
That horn sounds like csx 8511 to me.
I've heard the same rumors about selling it but everytime I ask anyone there they deny it. From what I heard it will probably continue to rot away in the back of the museum.
15 years later and it has a prominent display location in Barn 9, but still really needs a cosmetic restoration.
Barracade360....yes they were all scrapped. Nobody would buy them or use them so the idea was tossed
