🎉 Friend! Happy Independence day. I just discovered your channel and I really enjoyed the tour so much. I was born in Loris,SC, but raised in Tabor City, NC. Love your stream of consciousness monologue. Take care
Thank you. I’m glad you found my channel and I hope you are having a great 4th of July.
Breeden's Grocery is about the only thriving business on Broad Street. Not much at all on Main Street, except CLOSED businesses.
Give you an idea:
Rick Hendrick (Car Giant/ NASCAR team owner) had his first dealership here, and sold it.
Hugh McColl, native of Bennettsville, founder of Bank Of America, has NEVER had a branch here.
Interesting facts. Thanks for posting 👍
Funny thing about that 'Confederate " It is NOT a Confederate soldier. It is a Yankee soldier. There was a mix-up on the delivery for two town's statues. Yes, it is a Conderate memorial, but with a Yankee statue.
I did not know that. Thanks for the interesting history.👍
It's dead and dry,it's dieing out
I grew up on Parsonidge St. and went to the Methodist Church.✌️
it is PARSONAGE Street.
Use to be a good town ,nothing here anymore!
Hopefully it can make a comeback. It’s a beautiful town.
Thanks for posting and watching 👍
Courthouse burned in 1830, long before Sherman came through.
Thanks for the clarification 👍
I saw my first Disney movie at that closed movie theater that is now closed. It was “The Jungle Book.” Years later, I saw “Porkey’s”, and “Grease” there. It was always a great place to see movies!
I miss the old movie theaters. It was fun watching a movie in a packed house with everyone excited for the movie you were about to see.
Thanks for sharing
The old cinema is now the Marlboro Civic Center.
Hubby grew up there and we at one time thought about moving back but learned as we visited more and more how it is unfortunately dying. Leaders don’t seem to want to make improvements or revitalize it. Definitely has the appearance of a charming small town however it is now more of a bedroom town for there are not many good local jobs. I believe much of the population drives to other towns in other counties for work and on the weekends drive to those same places to shop. Though they do have Walmart on the outskirts of town and a very nice lake they don’t really seem to take advantage of the potential of the things they do have and losing the hospital a few years back was definitely a major drawback.
Thank you for sharing your local knowledge of the town. 👍
Thanks for the tour Timothy. Will you be recording in Myrtle Beach?
I will at some point this week. I definitely want to get the town center and boardwalk area.
Such a nice town
It’s really not though. lol
Big white building used to be Bennettsville department store where they sold clothes shoes and lot morestuff
Thanks for the info. I was thinking it might have been a big retail store in its day.
I live in a small town in North carolinand I have to pay state and county taxes meaning my taxes. Are double on my home and on my rehabilitation. Is it double taxes there because I would love to buy a place there
I’m not sure. A realtor would be better qualified to answer your tax question.
Sorry I could not be more helpful
@@TimothyFrench thanks for responding 👍
The Lovely Bride and I chose Bennettsville and Marlboro County to be our "forever home" in 2019.
A lovely bride in a forever home makes it a special place for sure 👍
@@TimothyFrenchThe Lovely Bride and I were bred, born and raised over in York County, in what was then a rural area outside of what were then the city limits of Rock Hill. We dated on a regular basis back in the early 1970s while we were in high school, but we ended up taking different roads around 1976 or so. Roughly 42 years later we reconnected and married in 2012. It took us seven long years to make it back home to our beloved South Carolina and though we originally wanted to settle down in Chesterfield County, we found a nice place for us "Old Folks" to live here in Bennettsville.
@furmanmackey5479 Sounds like you two were meant to be together in your South Carolina home 🏡
Thanks for sharing.
@@TimothyFrench We like to think The Good Lord had a major hand in it! Take care and keep the great videos coming! By the way, were you ever in the U.S. Army and stationed at Ft. Knox, KY? Say back in the early 1980s?
Thanks for the good words.
You must have seen my seen my doppelganger becuse I was not in the army at Ft Knox.@@furmanmackey5479
I like this town. I'd like to purchase a half acre for my camper.
Bennettsville is definitely a cool town. I feel like its town center will get revitalized and become a place to stop and shop once again. And it’s only 86 miles from Myrtle Beach.
@@TimothyFrenchThere’s nothing at all to do here. Minimal shops nobody goes to. Extremely small grocery center. No hospital. Nothing at all for kids to do…literally nothing. After 10pm everything is closed. If you’re hungry you’re gonna have to travel. If you want fast food there’s only a few options. Lowest rated schools.
It’s a dead town. They’re determined to keep it that way. Gotta love sketchy politics.
I'm going to buy a house this soon as I sell my home in north carolina
Hope you find your new home soon.👍
Very nice video, Timothy! Although Bennettsville is a beautiful, clean town with spectacular history and an abundance of beautiful, historic architecture, it has been quite dismal economically for some time now. Thirty-eight minutes down the road is the beautiful, clean City of Hartsville, which is much larger than Bennettsville. Hartsville is home to Coker University, the Headquarters of Sonoco Products Company (which is South Carolina's largest corporation in terms of sales), the location of Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, home to countless locally-owned shops and other companies and organizations, and is more prosperous economically than Bennettsville. As for that horrible humidity you've been experiencing, similar misery is ever-present along the entire eastern seaboard (from north to south) in summertime now and has been so for quite some time, so please stay hydrated!
I will. And thanks for the information on Hartsville.
I want to purchase a piece of land here.
I think it would be a great town to live in. I hope you are able to buy land there when you’re ready 👍
Comment here when you’re planning to go to Marion
I have already been to Marion and have a town center and Big Foot Festival video for it.
