Hey filipinos on the internet, if you're interested getting a bit more into Filipino indigenous music, I spent a portion of my life really exploring it and I've found it's hard to find good recordings of the stuff on youtube, so I made a small collection here of some of the beautiful traditional music forms which we have preserved via youtube I've put the titles (youtube doesn't like links) here:
Tribal sounds of the Philippines • T'BOLI (showcase of various: short singing passage, a stringed instrument: (hegelung) + mouth-harp (kubing), a gong melody instrument (kulintang), & drumming)
Kutiyapi - pamipi sa dital (stringed instrument called kutiyapi of Maguindanao, very bad quality video but good song)
Hegelung : The Woodpecker (stringed instrument called hegelung of T'boli tribe)
Jessie Gan - Faglong Master (similar stringed instrument called faglung of B'laan)
Many videos from channel "Harold Andre" are Kulintang performances (Maguindanaon style) which are very good.
If you're still not overwhelmed, or just are interested in more, I've put many more in a reply to this post.

Hopefully I don't look like too much of a weirdo posting a bunch of random youtube video recommendations in a comment section :P)
      Kulintang:
      Fred-Ho: Kapagonor (professionally recorded)
Filipino Martial Arts Soundtrack 3 (professionally recorded)
      The Cotobato Sessions (professionally recorded)
FARID GUINOMLA - Kulintang a Kamamatuan (Maguindanaon Kulintang Music) (Home video but interesting w/ 10 gong kulintang instead of 8)
      YT Channel Philippine-Korea team
      Various from T'boli tribe:
Tboli Music Instruments | Kulingtan | Kubing (Jaw Harp) | S'loli (Bamboo Flute) | Tnonggong
Tribal people playing musical instruments | T'boli, Philippines
Various from Palawan (different culture, interesting scales)
In Memory of Pala'wan Master Artist Masino Intaray (1943-2013)
The KUSIYAPÌ, KUDLONGAN and KUDYAPI of the PALA’WAN.
      Kutiyapi:
Kudyapi - Master Samaon Sulaiman (recorded performance)
Master Bitol Sulaiman Master Ismael Ahmad plays the Kutiyapi (various players, good quality)
Ibrahim and Morsid Sulaiman play the Kutiyapi (various players, good quality)
KUTYAPI - ISMAEL AHMAD (Maguindanaon Musical Culture) (good quality)
VTS 01 1 (awful quality but many songs)
      Hegelung:
In Memory of Pala'wan Master Artist Masino Intaray (1943-2013)
Two Hegelung solos from south Cotabato, Philippines
Woodpecker Song by B'laan Jessie Gan
      Singing:
Tboli Chanting - Ye Gas sings!
      t'boli singer y'egas
      Other:
      Bamboo harp [YT channel KlangWelten]

Before the Spanish Colonization of the Philippines, Filipino Music was actually Microtonal which is like their neighbor Indonesia in which they use the 5EDO Scale which divides the octave to 5 Notes. It might be macrotonal assuming that 5 is less than 12. With the limitations of the 5-TET/5EDO Scale, It has minimal dissonance which only comes from the major 2nd which 2 diatonic semitones rubs (although the scale consists of 4ths, 5ths, 2nds and 6ths).

While this is true to some extent, this is honestly a pretty western/reductive and simplistic view of Filipino precolonial music. From my personal interest, I've found there are a few general musical forms which spread throughout the archipelago with variation per the culture. In the north the music is generally fairly simple with cyclic melodic structures which you sustain for however long, using various different instruments such as bamboo zithers or flat gongs called gangsa. There are also some flutes which are pentatonic. In central and south Philippines there is Kulintang music, which is a more improvisational form with the kulintang as the main and melodic instrument. The scale of the kulintang is 'arbitrary' or based on personal/regional preference, there isn't really much of anything in the way of specific music theory around the scale used, as far as I have seen. I'd be interested to know where you got the idea that their is a filipino music culture based around a 5 tone equal tempered scale and what culture it is specifically.

I came here after hearing some of this music live. And was struck by the rythms being similar to some of my culture's (Nigerian) traditional music. Lookin at the comments I see so many of yall wonderful people also fell victim to the same tricks the British Missionaries played on my people. They came with the bible. Made a few rich and conquered and destroyed most of the traditions that went back to before they even invented the name Jesus.
Luckily it seems the current generations are acknowledging that the Spainards (British) did some deplorable things even though you still defend the Christianity. Luckily I see the braver younger generation realizing the the Christian part was just as wrong and beginning to drop the religion of the colonizer and get back to the old ways .
And those of you saying the Spanish colonizer weren't real Christians, I have to say you are wrong. They were for sure more Christian than the Filipinos they taught the religion too. Otherwise you are saying every Christian Filipino learned from fake Christians? NO Sorry you don't get to do that. The were real Christians but that religion allows you to do absolutely ANYTHING in the name of god. Because the priest will forgive you of any sin.
If the colonizers were Buddists...I can see a few violent Buddists. but it is difficult to imagine a culture of conquering Buddists. Not saying it's impossible but i don't think it would be as drastic as the Christians did

I'm just jealous of the Samoans, Aztecs, Tainos, Vikings
Got to keep some of there ancient traditions an artwork music
Buildings like the pyramids an old language alive.
    Even the tattoos are beautiful.
The pinoy indigenous were looked upon as savages unfortunately i suppose.
I guess our Native roots gotta be destroyed an forgotten. Wish it had a museum. White man probably destroyed it all? Shoutout to the Aetas an Igorot. Never be ashamed of our brown skin.
