2h mace, jump attack, evasive strike, blink strike, water aura and fire aura.
A fast paced way to play with 2 handers. Jump attack to push the enemies, blink in, evasive strike, blink out, repeat.
Ring of Rapacity, which is obviously broken right now, gives almost endless mana if I need to whip out my staff and throw some fireballs, but the combined mana regen from mana leech that maces get and other talents give enough of it back anyways, so it'll work even after the ring is fixed.
      So I guess it's a 2 handed paladin, or a battlemage build?

      @a-10warthog55 Před 4 měsíci +4

@JM-db8ez if you haven't done it yet I just tried making the "shrubs" on the seed bed. 1 fiber gets you 5 seedlings (you don't need water) and each seedling grows to give you 2 fiber and 1 stick every time. I set up 4 seed beds and put 25 fiber in each of them. 2 hours later I planted 500 plants and got 500 sticks. It's nice on a rented server because time progresses even if you aren't on, on a solo server you would just do this in between missions and farming other materials I guess. It was easier than looking for nests for sure.

I'm playing as Ranger, You have to have a bow that has 'brutal' perk (+20% crit dam), my head shots hit for 500+ at level 23. It does require more gathering/farming than any other class. It's not terrible if you're vigilant, I'll note my method. I have a seed planter going at the base 24/7 make shrub seedlings, sitting on like 1,000+ seeds in no time. I spend about 5mins planting 200 bushes on my farm, before i go out on an adventure, returns 200 twigs, (about 2mins to collect) which makes 500 arrows. For iron I glide from the far eastern tower straight down to the Iron Mine, you don't have to kill the root and fight the scythe boss each time, but it give you a gap in the shroud (takes 1min). I mine until I break the pick (7mins) you get enough ore to make like 60 bars which makes 1,500 arrows. Total farm time is 17mins or so, and i do this every few hours of play. Feathers are by far the biggest blocker, you will need 5 per 50 arrows, so i just try to always kill the dragon birds and chickens during the adventure time.

Then I switch to one-handed and shield, which, when combined with the Jump Attack perk (which isn't limited to barbarian), makes this game a total blast to play. Archer Class, The blue armor headpiece and gloves for the crit and ranged damage. The Gloom Monarch chest, legs, and feet for the health boost in case you make mistakes or run out of arrows and need to get up close and personal. Plus is gives off a decent heavy archer type look and is forgiving when you do accidentally glide into the middle of a group and need to make a quick escape. Double jump perk helps with that as well.

It's just annoying to deal with some enemies that have one shot mechanics, otherwise it's pretty fun to play around. And the Leech makes me heal fully very easily with a few weapon swings, so I can tank most of the stuff.
The only thing I felt lackluster is there's no way to deal with the flying mage mobs, since you cannot melee hit them, and you need to use a wand or bow to deal with them.

Nice video. I'm not that far into the game but have been playing a mage type character from the start. Seems very clear already the wand is super OP. I don't have an acid staff yet because I'm still only 13 and only unlocked the eternal frost spell so sticking to frost for now even though fire does more damage. The wand does as much or more damage than the staff but the staff has a huge range so I can kill things like those plants without them even attacking and other mobs are dead before they reach me..if not dead after 1 or 2 staff hits I can switch to the wand to finish them off. The wand can also replenish mana so seems like they work well together.

The mage builds feel like what I want them to feel like. What needs to happen is the other classes need to come up to be as satisfying as mage. Tanks take too much damage and stagger too easily, even with good armor. They need to improve the ability of armor and shield to have stagger resist, because getting stunlocked by a pack of mobs feels terrible when you're rocking the maximum defenses possible. Weapon arts would help, let onehand swords get a slash-wave magic attack that covers a frontal cone. Let two-handed barbs have a straight line charge that does fat damage along its path. There are ways to make other things good without nerfing the one fun combat style.

For instance adding weapon enchantments for the battle mage class or blood knight being able to increase dmg by using hp but gaining it back in some way. Or expand on trickster and assassin class to be more viable like a ninja or use tools or traps. I see what you mean where they could be underwhelming if running solo, but as a duo we seem pretty capable. Granted, some enemies I just hold my shield while my buddy rains arrows, then when I lose aggro I back stab until I regain it and then hold my shield, which I suppose could be boring to some.

I have spent about 30 hours at lvl 25 and have all "end-game" items. After lots of testing, this is my tier list.
    S+: Wizard
    A+: Ranger
    B: 2-hand melee, Wand (Battlemage)
    C: 1-hand melee
I shared this on Reddit and they roasted me about putting 1-hand melee at the bottom. I went back and tested it another 5-10 hours and found the same result as you. Damage is good and the playstyle is fun, it just takes far far far more damage than other other builds. Regarding bow, universally, everyone agrees arrows are a problem. We need an eternal arrow and each craft should make 500 arrow, not 50. Assuming that is fixed, I have Ranger in the perfect spot. Great risk vs reward playstyle. I don't know exactly how my build differs from your, but my arrows do 700 damage per headshot (skillshot). With that much damage, it makes short work of all level 30 enemies. Wizard is overtuned right now. I'm a firm believer Wand and healing should scale with int, whereas staff damage should scale with spirit. At current, Wizard can pick up Damage, Earth Aura, and Water Aura. This build does everything well with no downsides. By changing staff damage to spirit, Wizard won't be able to get healing and defense. As such, it will play much like the Ranger. High damage at the cost of survivability.
4:13 - PSA, never turn your back to enemies. They get a guaranteed crit and backstab. You will notice their normal attacks did about 100 damage, but once your turned your back to them they did a hit of 420.

i totally agree, mage is the best way to have fun in this game, and i want to add something, at some point i don't remember where i found a ring (the ring or rapacity) that give -20% mana but +20% mana regen, with this ring equipped and the capacity of some staffs to give you back 5% of damage as mana, mana really isn't an issue anymore, with the right perks and firebolt you sometime deal around 500~800 dmg to all enemies within the explosion, as the mana refund work with every damage you deal one fireball is sometime enough to completely refill your mana (fun things it also work with destroyable furnitures, so if you're in an enemy camp you basically have unlimited power)
For the spells it does take some time to gather the materials to craft the unlimited ones, but they are so worth it, the ice bolt is great to slow down very aggressive enemies like the ones with two poisoned cleavers, the fire bolt is super fun to clear out large groups of enemies and destroy every pieces of furnitures you see very quickly, and the acid bite just melt through bosses like you showed
And i've found another fun thing to do as long as you get an insane mana regen like i do (aka found the ring of rapacity) and the updraft skill, this skill basically let you gain some height once while flying at the cost of mana, but if you cancel the flight animation with rmb and start it immediately again, you can use the updraft once more, and you can repeat that indefinitely, giving you free flight until you run out of stamina, it work with every weapons but i like to do this with staffs or bows since their animation on rmb is very short if you just click it, imo this is going to be patched at some point, but it's very fun to do to travel long distances

With the game being early access, I can understand some balancing issues. But this video summed up very well what's doing great, and what isn't. I think mage is good where it's at, the acid bite needs to be tuned down though. And every other playstyle needs to be tuned way up, with arrows having their material cost reduced or a way for arrows to be used less when fired. Especially when using multi shot.

Your video nails it: While the 1H/Tank class deals as little damage as the archer, the mage devastates everything in sight.
Since the game is still in development, I would suggest that particularly powerful spells, especially in the endgame with endless casting, should require a longer cast time to maintain balance. Hopefully, such adjustments will be implemented.

I'm still experimenting, but we certainly have different definitions of "best" as all I care about is how satisfying combat can be, so if I'm not struggling I'm not having fun. Wands I find to be broken, if they had much less autoaim and a bit more range I'd be a lot more happy with them. Inversely, the staffs are nice, but the way you need to fire them while in "tank control" mode is frustrating. I avoid bows for the same reason, especially since I don't want to grind for ammo. I also find the two-handed weapons slow, so I'm of course playing the tank build. My main spec I care about is parry, but I don't just block. Many attacks can be interrupted or dodged by baiting then strafing slight rather than a full dodge. Pulling that off feels amazing. The green bois and groups are still a menace, but I think I might be able to respec something nice soon

With all those skills you can actually use Eternal Fireball to clear out houses and stuff without even getting inside, just shoot it somewhere near and the sick AoE hits at least half of its full damage. Without that range and AoE size I would preffer Fireball over Acid. Also those berserk butchers can be stunned by some certain melee skills if you can time it, not sure how but my party member manages to stun them each time they raise to attack, my best guess is some kind of parry function can be used with animation cancelling effect.

Wands do a good amount of damage without having to get in enemies faces. Bows allow for ranged sneak attacks and close range melee and wands too depending on the enemy are good for those using these bomb things that blast you especially early game.

Currently the most OP build is the OOM (Out Of Mana) Wand build. Makes your wand do 10x damage, for instance if your wand hits for 250, it will hit for 2,500. Essentially you avoid as much spirit as you can in the talent trees, avoid any mana/mana regen gear. The goal is to be Out Of Mana as fast as possible. What you do is Equip your staff but don't put it on your hotbar.
That leaves it so you can use it by holding Q. Then you select your wand on the hotbar, HOLD Q and cast a spell until you are OOM. Then when you keep holding Q while attempting to cast, it will default to your wand. . . but if you are OOM then your wand will do 10X damage. Literally.

Would you update it with the newest patch that made arrows only cost 2 twigs instead of 10?

Mana is not an issue with 2x ring of rapacity (-20% mana, +20% mana regen and it stacks). You can pretty much spam any spells like this. Combine this with eternal acid bite and the shroudweaver staff and you have a very strong setup at your disposal. It's actually too good imho. I should not be able to melt a level 30 boss in a few seconds. This is with flask/scroll/best food, but without the 12% staff damage gloves or optimised skills.
The main issue with the staff is the cast time. It's mainly used for ranged mobs or as an opener.

yeah the cast time even with the 50% talent is still a little slow

To be fair; I feel like this video applies really nicely to the "Early Access", but it's a mistake to assume that the combat won't change and become a little more balanced after some time of community feedback much like this video. So, for now, this is great information and brought to us with good logic - however, I would reckon the devs are already in the works of finding balance changes to make most or all options of combat viable. They (the devs) did say that they would like for this game to be played with friends in a sort of DnD-esque party where players can take up needed roles and maximize the lanes as a unit, but have acknowledged the solo playing community which leads me to believe that in some of the upcoming patches there will most likely be those buffs/debuffs etc.

I use both frost and fire wands, got some bow and some arrows but rarely ever have to grab that thing, and that boss at the Pike was owning my ass until I found the Acid Spray, which nukes anything and everything. I rarely dodge, I just jump. Im at level 22 or something and really hope they uncap the level and perhaps scale the difficulty in the future, because right now I'm a god and nothing can really stand a chance at me...

I really hope they tune the other specs to be as good as the caster specs, but I fear they'll just nerf the caster specs to be as bad as the others.

My buddy really wanted to do a tank build but found the same problem that you were having. It needs to be balanced a bit more to be viable.

Few more observations after i completed the game.
    - You shouldn't build around a playstyle, you should have ranged and melee/midrange options for any build.
    - You should build around weapons not playstyle, coz all weapons are different in what they can do.
    - Going for Dex+Int or Str+Int for ranged/melee characters results in the best DPS, so hybrid builds will be on top, compared to pure builds. Also worth nothing that increasing your Flame level results in all stats increase, so you can figure things out from this point.
    - There is no gear i found or crafted that benefits Two-Handed damage and on top of that Two-Handed weapons have highest parry rating in the game, so devs see tanks with Two-Handers, not with Sword and Board.
    - Food buffs are crucial to every build, raising up stats or recovering HP.
    - You should look for Fire/Lightning weapons, reason for that is that most-to-all enemies in game have no resistance to Lightning and other are vulnerable to Fire. On top of that you have most magic perks related to those two elements and increasing damage with those elements and thee work on each other.
