This song takes me back to a simpler time in my life. Its one of Glens biggest hits and it displays his vocals and tenderness to get this song across. RIP Mr. Campbell may you know we are still listening to words written Decades ago❤

One of the greatest songs ever composed. Only Glen Campbell could ace these John Hartford lyrics in this spectacular way. AWESOME !

I was a young teenager when that was a hit for John Hartford. I’ve only just rediscovered it.

Finally an intelligent way of putting the lyrics. People always put the lyrics too late on the screen. Congratulations and greetings from Brazil.

Great job. Thanks for sharing. One minor correction, though. "My beard a rustling cold towel" should actually be "My beard a roughening coal pile".

I always thought the words sounded like "my beard erupting, cold towel, and a dirty hat pulled low across my face." but whatever the words, all Glen's lyrics perfectly paint images of a man, a wanderer or a bum, if you will, just getting by but never far from distant memories of his past love.

This song is rather dated. People are much more materialistic now. When this song came out people aspired to be free spirits. The first two lines of this song sound a little strange by today's standards. When this song first came out many people looked at materialism with disdain. The hippies of this world had experimented with living in subsistence communes and taking LSD. Movies like "The Graduate" decried the obsession with money of these people's parents. Maybe someday I will try to live by the words of this song, but today I like having a soft mattress and clean clothes.
