    Everyone talks about how clampy the 560S is but I find it to be like 60% as clampy as the 6xx or 58x. I also find the earpads to be perfectly comfortable. They should never change them again.
    Edit: just wanted to add that the x2hr is absolutely incredible for classic rock. I can listen to Fleetwood Mac on the x2hr for hours.

    Just got the X2HR to replace my 7 year old falling apart HD681. It's a beautifully build and looking device and without having the break in period, it already sounds a lot better. The only authority the Superlux has is the insane and silly air movement in the sub low end. The Fidelio is less sharp and finally I have mids, better detail and presence overall. I do recommend driving them differently , especially for the sub low end. For instance, when listening to youtube, they behave very different if you set the youtube volume to

    Agree on the fun-factor of the Fidelios, keep coming back to them and their punch and wiiiiiide soundstage. Can especially recommend for (well recorded) live performances. They keep their place next to my Sennheiser HD600's (which I love as well, but for different genres and with a slight bass-boost) and DT770 pros (when it needs to be closed back). Very good review, thx!

      @Bushviking Funny coincidence, I have exactly the same trio; Sennheiser HD600, Beyerdynamic DT770-80 ohm (closed back for studio recording) and recently purchased at an excellent price the Philips Fidelio X2HR and I am very satisfied with the complementarity that these three provide.Before I bought the Sennheiser HD600 I compared back and forward with the 560s and found them anemic, boring and didn’t enjoy the kind of neutrality they reproduce.The 600 are from another league, much better cans from my point of view, more resolution, kind of neutrality, instruments separation, etc. I have the same opinion regarding the HD650 that are very warm, dark and sometimes boring.With their defects and virtues the HD600 are the Swiss Army knife of headphones under € 350.00.I was lucky and bought mine for less money.Returning to the Fidelio x2HR, I think they are really excellent headphones especially at this moment where we can find them sometimes for € 130.00 or less. In a very simplistic attempt to define the sound of the Philips Fidelio x2, to me they sound like the HD600 with more bass and treble and more open space good for listening to music in general with pleasure, comfort and fun.

    An excellent, concise review. I have the X2HR and HD 599 not 560. But in any case your impressions very much matched up with mine. I guess the hd599 is just a somewhat cheaper and less refined version of the hd560. It too can be a bit over forward in mid-range vocals but otherwise very well behaved and never sibilant. I find the x2hr to be garishly sibilant and requiring a huge amount of EQ. Once you do that all the fine qualities you mention are revealed. Nevertheless it remains a bit too sharp for vocals in the upper regions, giving them an odd kind of reedy quality sometimes while strings and guitars have the most wonderful crunchyness that can make the Sennheiser sound rather bland and thin on the instrumentals. I still haven't decided which to keep...

    I went from $30-$50 skullcandy earbuds to Philips Fidelio X2 back in like 2015 and had them for years before accidently stepping and breaking the headband :( Then I think by then they had the X2HR version and I heard the Hype about Sennheiser and people said its better for the genres I listen to and ended up getting the HD 600 58x Jubilee Hifiman 400SE Dekoni Audio Blue Fostex Sony MDR7506 and Grado SR80e and none sounded as "fun" as the Philips Fidelio X2 but I had them only for years and then went about a year with just crappy earbuds before I started buying different headphones. Right now honestly my favorite are the 58x even with any DAC/AMP I try and EQ and all that custom profiles auto EQ Qudelix-5K and Hiby R3 and other USB DACs. 2nd are probably the HD 600 and then the Hifiman 400SE. I can't stand the Grado SR80e no matter what I try. I listen to 80s-90s heavy metal too that's really treble focused and guitar shredding and I don't know if I just remember the Philips Fidelio X2 being so good for me and fun because I had nothing to compare it too or if they really were. Other people have recommended the Sundara and Berdynamic Headphones but I don't know. I might try some with good return policies or even a little restocking fee and accepting returns. I love mid-high range singing with tons of 5th octave notes but many are shitty recorded demos or very small record labels albums with bad mixing. Its almost nothing you would hear on the radio or see on youtube. I scour metal archive sites and just mass listen to thousands of thousands of songs and like what I like. Only kind of known bands I listen to are Fates Warning pre mid 90s Crimson Glory first 2 albums some Savatage and Helstar first 4 albums. Mainly heavy/power/prog metal and some hard rock a couple of AOR songs and no pop rap hip hop electronic dubstep or anything like that. Even in terms of metal only Heavy/Melodic/Power/Progressive and some Thrash but not aggressive vocals more like Toxik or old Flotsam and Jetsam first 2 album vocals. And when people think power metal they usually think of new power metal all about rainbows dragons and ponies and nothing like that. Mainly late 80s and 90s power metal way before it turned into mostly what it is today. Not even newer metal really either except a very few songs. Can't stand Nu-Metal Black Metal Death Metal some doom metal is alright but more so heavy or progressive doom metal with higher vocals hate Metal-Core ect. I know what I like and even genres I like its like a 1/1000 chance I will like the song sadly. Mainly up until mid 2000s and then to me the sound drastically changed even after the early 90s the sound changed a lot and many bands I listen to I like their late 80s early 90s stuff but can't stand anything past that. I'm the type with no favorite band and only like certain songs on certain albums and I can't think of even 1 album where I've liked every song. Even genres I like its like less than a 1% chance that I will like the song even in the time periods I like the most :( I've listened to easily over 100 thousand songs not in their entirety of course but skipping around and know if I like it or not very quickly. I have to with dealing with thousands of songs at a time sometimes over 50GB. Basically none ever have reissues are were limited on release to like 500 copies and you have to spend a fortune just for the CD usually $50+. There is a site metal archives with probably 500 thousand bands listed on it. I have heard many of those over around a 8 year period 2k songs here and there type of thing and some channels that have thousands of songs uploaded. Sorry I went on way too long about random stuff I just wanna have that fun factor again with good sound too if its possible.

    I recently got my X2HR and they are great! However while listening to symphonic metal with REALLY rich sound and female vocals, like Within Temptation, sometimes vocals feel a bit farther away and orchestra with drums needs a bit more clarity. I'm a newbie to this audiophile rabbit-hole, so what should I be looking for? Is it the nature of V-shape or is it because of recordings or am I just asking 500$ specs from a 150$ headphones? Hello there ! I'm kinda new to this whole audiophile-hi-fi thing so i apologize if i say something stupid or idiotic, i have the Sennheiser HD 599 for two years, and I'm planning on getting something new either Fidelio X2HR which in my country (Greece) right now they cost about 131 euros, or the Sennheiser HD 560s which they cost 190 euros. Which one would you recommend me ? I mostly enjoy pop (k-pop) and rnb music than classical. If i understood correctly the HD 560's are more accurate and natural sounding (and in a way a bit tad boring ?), whereas Fidelio's are more exciting while losing the accuracy and the neutral sound of the 560's. Is it possible to make HD 560's more exciting and less boring than stock with Eq by only changing the lower frequencies? Will this affect negatively for the mids and highs ? I guess there is a lot more out there I need to experience.

    • @PantsaBear
      @PantsaBear Před 3 lety +2

      It's less so that they feel "budget" and moreso they dont feel as durable as other options. Reviewers usually bend the hand band in all directions to show the viewer it wont break and as you probably already know, you cant do that with these at all lmao. I honestly feel like the HD560s could break in half if I stepped on them the wrong way accidently lol. You can see with the Fidellios in this vid: its not that they spend more money on the material necessarily overall, its just smartly designed with the thin metal skeleton, covering, and band over your head thats stretchy and adds some comfort. The pads on the HD560s almost definitely cost more and might feel a little more cozy even, but the frame is less durable

    • @chuckolatte600
      @chuckolatte600  Před 3 lety +5

      Well it's true there are a lot more HPs out there that sound noticeably better than the HD560s. However, the HD560s are an excellent HP and a great "stopping point" if you'd rather keep them for a few years while you save money for a more "summit-fi" HP like an Audeze or an HD800s.

      @@PantsaBear The durability "feel" is definitely just a misguided feel. Because no matter how they "feel" they ARE durable. I often see reviewers that bend them in impossible ways and they never break, they are elastic. Metal would be meaningless, it would just make them pointlessly heavier.
      Similarly, headphones that "feel" durable because of the metal like Audeze weigh like 700+ grams, are less comfortable, and far less durable if they take a fall due to the massive weight.
      The paradox!

Now, I've got a relatively cheap (around $250) Yamaha amp/receiver which I use for home listening. On my phone I'm using a cheap ($10?) usb-c to jack adapter. I know the fidelios are easy to drive, but am I missing out on anything?
    I feel like I am. Because while the audio is very good on all fronts, I barely hear a difference between Spotify, Tidal or Vinyl. Phone or amp also barely makes a difference, except for volume. Do I just need to train my ears, or is there a bottleneck in this setup?

Of course Fidelio has a bit bigger sound stage...but only if you increase the volume.... ) The biggest, in my opinion, downside of the Fidelio is their size ( I hate the arch over your head) and compared to the HD560S they are not that comfortable....and you feel their presence on your head .... whereas with Sennheiser...it's like they were designed for your head.

      None of the headphones you mentioned could beat x2Hr sub-bass. imaging, and soundstage. Also, Senh HD560s is boring after listening for a while. It is not easy to find a perfect headphone. it depends on individual taste only. x2Hr is a more versatile headphone than any other you have mentioned.

      @@LaurusHG oof. that's a rough one since they are so different. would really depend on what you want to use them for. i'm a new audiophile/audio person but i can give you some impressions from having A/B-ed them for a bit. ended up with the HD 560s.
      my goal was to find an allrounder for music production and consumption and for gaming. since i'm on a budget currently i needed one HP for all three. keep that in mind.
      HD 560s
      music: more neutral and "boring" but also more natural. more intimate in terms of soundstage but not closed in. just smaller in comparison.
      gaming: due to more flat response they are way less fatiguing for both gaming and long music listening. they are immersive with their decent soundstage but less so than the beyers. yes shit hits the fan but you can tolerate it for long periods of time.
      DT990
      music: more airy, more powerful in a way but more thin in a way also. hard to explain. i think it's the recessed mids. you get this airy wide feeling but it also sounds more sterile and artificial and things like guitars and voices seem a bit distant. it's a fascinating sound but it is definately "enhanced". i would sum it up as more 3d, more intense (treble and bass) but also less natural. cymbals can sound unnaturally sharp and in the foreground.
      gaming: explosions are more powerful. treble is more pronounced. things are intense as fuck. but that makes it fatiguing (for me personally), and eventhough footsteps are way in the foreground because of the treble peak, the heavy bass is distracting which might neutralise that advantage overall. treble for both gaming and music is elevated to a level that makes things sound off a little bit sometimes. gunshots sound more metallic than usual for example. visceral in a futuristic cold-ish kind of way. i totally get what some people like about these.
      i was put off by what i read about the veil with senn HPs but then i found the 560s. they even have this seemingly deeper bass than their siblings and it's a very clean bass. yes it doesnt boom your pants off but it's not just audible. it thumps too when the track makes it. these HP to me just sound true and i LOVE that they are basically bright non muddy sennheisers. i love them more and more. but i also realised that at some point i will need to also own airy HPs with a really wide sound stage. it's kind of a gimmick maybe but having heard it once i gotta say that it's a nice and immersive thing that i want to have access to in the future. remember the HD 560s have sound stage. it's just not an in your face feature.
      excuse the wall of text but i thought i'd chime in since these were pretty much the choices i had. i will leave you with this: try the TYGR 300 r by beyerdynamic too. they are like "fixed" DT 990s in terms of treble. ignore their gaming branding. dt 990 drivers in dt 880 housing with treble dampening filter. you get something less crazy and more reasonable and you keep the nice strong but clean bass of the DT 990. and test them all gaming or just jamming for at least two hours. i thought i was a bass head until i did "field tests". intensity is nice for a moment but it has its price over time.

      @LaurusHG Před 3 lety

      @@sebbo1496 I actually tried both too and ended up going with the 990 pros. The 560s were a bit too 'flat' and I guess as you said, boring. Love the 990s, great detail in the highs and surprisingly good bass for an open back, miss don't seem recessed at all but I can see why someone might think they are.
      H560s are far more neutral and seem more suited to mixing or professional music production than casual listening and gaming.
      The build quality is also far better on the 990s Id say, that and they're by far the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn.
      Overall they're both fantastic headphones, but considering I could get the 990s for £30 less it was a no-brainer for me. Thanks for your response though!

    I ended up returning my X2HRs in favor of the 560S. Don't get me wrong the X2HRs are a blast to listen to but they will also blast away from your skull if you just move your eyes. In my opinion the X2HRs have the worst clamping force I have ever experienced on a pair of headphones, because of how unbalanced and uneven it is. I think the suspension style headband is way too weak and stretchy, it feels like the headphones are playing trampoline with my skull. meanwhile the earcups love to press a lot on my skull. It's too low and too high at the same time. I especially noticed this that when I started moving my head to the tunes, the headband would slide up and down my head until they inevitably fall off while the super high clamping force of the earcups keep them on my head, no matter where my headband is. If they weren't so heavy, I could wear them like a stethoscope.

      I've had 3 pairs of X2HR and each one had different clamping forces and even the headband on one of them was more egg shaped than the rest which made them bounce up and down on my head. The pair I have now sit nearly perfectly so I can listen to metal and enjoy the music while bobbing my head away. I've had the 560s too but my ears are too big and the protruding block used for the swivel cups smashed into my ear causing discomfort after 30 minutes of use sadly disqualifying it as a daily headphone, even though I enjoyed the sound.
