  • Former governor of the eastern region, the late Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, On May 30th 1967, declared secession of Biafra Republic from Nigeria.
    The declaration led to the civil war that started on July 6th 1967, and ended on January 15th 1970. It is estimated that during the two and a half year war, between 500,000 and 2 million Biafran civilians died of starvation.
    To commemorate the civil war, some south east stakeholders declared May 30th Biafra Day.
    Last week, the indigenous peoples of Biafra, through its spokesperson Emma Powerful, issued a sit-at-home order in the south-east to honour the fallen heroes of the civil war.
    The group directed all schools, banks, transport unions, markets and offices to shut down operations on May 30th.
    According to the daily Trust, some soldiers were killed in Abia State by suspected IPOB militants who were reportedly enforcing the sit-at-home order. A viral video showed the moment the assailants shot sporadically, before setting a military van ablaze.
    President General of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has denounced the killing of security personnel in the Southeast.
    Speaking with journalists on Thursday, Iwuanyanwu stated that the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu has also condemned the killings in the south east and the sit at home order by the indigenous peoples of Biafra.
    A video showing some school children carrying concrete on their heads, during school hours has made rounds on social media.
    In the video the woman who forced the children to carry out the hard labour could be heard attempting to justify her actions.
    The re-introduction of the old national anthem continues to generate reactions. Since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the National Anthem bill to law on Wednesday, videos of pupils reciting the anthem during morning assembly, have been making the rounds on social media
    Reciting the anthem has not only been popular in Nigerian schools, the governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke has also attempted to recite the Anthem.
    In Kenya, the country’s president, William Ruto has debunked claims that he spent over $1.5M dollars to chatter a private plane to the United States, stating that the plane he used only cost about $73,000.
    The president stated this at a National Prayer Breakfast event in Nairobi on Thursday, adding that some friends of the country offered the plane at that price when he had opted to use the national airline to save money.
    Donald Trump on Thursday became the first former U.S. president to be convicted of felony crimes.
    In a historic verdict he was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records, in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 election through hush money payments to a porn actor stormy Daniel’s who he had an affair with.
    The conviction does not stop him from running for office, in fact Trump on Truth Social has been using the verdict to solicit money from donors for his campaign! The Biden campaign has however continued to mobilize their supporters.
    They say that there is only one way to keep trump out of the Oval Office and that’s through the ballot box, felon or not trump will be the republican nominee or president.
    Afrobeats Superstar, Davido has been hailed by the Coalition of Orphanages and Children’s Homes in Nigeria for his financial support to orphanage homes under the coalition, stating that 42 out of 52 homes have benefitted from his financial support.
    In February, Davido donated N300 million Naira to orphanage homes across Nigeria, as part of his annual contribution to the nation.
    In a statement on Thursday, the coalition thanked Davido for his commitment to loving the forgotten Nigerian children, adding that no Nigerian or government has given them such magnanimous support.

    I agree with Dr. Abbati on many grounds. But I pray that the soldiers be guided by discerning spirit in taking action against the pepetrators lest we injure innocent young easterners who are not part of this dastardly act. Another important note to be taken very seriously is the fact that those who killed the soldiers in pretense that they are executing IPOB order are either the real enemies of IPOB or those who want Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to remain in prison custody indefinitely. They are enemies of the people knowing fully well that these dastardly actions can only lead to killing of innocent citizens while themselves has left in disguise to places where only God can locate them. I beg the Military to please please save the lives of those innocent south easterners. Emma Powerful declared sit at home but he may not have ordered any confrontation with anyone. We have miscreants who hide under such circumstances to display influence of mkpuru miri. Let us not misunderstand MNK' order to stop sit-at-home order in sympathy to his incarceration and the age long sympathy to people who died following the declaration of Biafra on the 30th of May 1967. The sit at home orders should stop fortwith to avoid miscreants taking undue advantage.

    My own opinion is to release mazi nnamdi KANU, and we know where the problem is, because holding him nnamdi KANU or killing innocent people and soilder is not the solution ❤❤❤❤❤

    At times the way some issues are being analyse by some people creats more problems than the existing ones on ground. There are some issues that need logical and rational reasoning you don't just open your mouth and talk simply because you can speak English or because you have the opportunity to have the microphone infront of you... Though I condemn the killing of the security personnels, the matter should be properly investigated rather than some people trying to mislead the army to go there with full force. Such ideology is bad and it will only lead to more escalation of violent. I wish Rufai was in the station to give us a proper analysis without sentiments...

    You release Miyetti Allah leader charge with terrorism but refuse to release Nnamdi kanu. You don't want Igbo man to be president and yet you don't want Igbo to leave the country you don't want them to govern. Abati talking trash as if he doesn't know the cause of this agitation.

  • @Zaramoku
    @Zaramoku Před 23 dny +6

    The criminal killers, whoever they are, must be apprehended and brought to swift justice. If IPOB carried out this killing, they must be absolutely stupid.
    Soldiers should fish out the killers but they must not abuse people who have nothing to do with this killing - Abati is indirectly instigating the massacring of innocent Igbos by overzealous soldiers for the sins of a few criminals. Was this not what happened in 1966 - innocent Igbos massacred for the sins of Nzeọgwu and Ifeajuna? Reuben Abati would have been among the Igbo-murdering mobs of the 1960s were he old enough then.

    As an Igboman, this hurts me so much that IPOB is doing this.
    I mean what on earth is this? What evil is this? This is a huge shame & hurts me badly.

    • @victoranosike8503
      @victoranosike8503 Před 23 dny

      As an Igbo man you think UPON is doing this? Has IPOB claimed responsibility? Has any investigation shown that they are?
      Nigeria's law presumes innocence of the accused until investigation reveals otherwise. Sadly security Personnel are quick to denounce a person or group before they have known the facts. This alone fuels tension and all kinds of things go wrong in that event. Unfortunately, even the citizens begin to suspect one another as a consequence.
      For all I know, Buhari did a lot to destabilise the South East. I'll watching to see any policy change so far. The attack could have been carried out by anyone including the military that is already threatening hell fire. May God save our people.
