How to fish a new weedy lake!

- I'm fishing a brand new lake in north central Minnesota. I know absolutely nothing about where, how or when to fish this lake. It's August so the water temperatures are in the 70-80's, waters clear and the winds are light. I'm starting in the north end which is the shallower and and it's full of all types of weeds, mainly pads, reeds and a variety of underwater weeds out to about 12' deep! This is the perfect topwater frog scenario! Let's see what happens!

I love that Roland doesn’t edit out the parts where he loses the fish, he shows us that these are situations fisherman face not like other fisherman that only show when they catch “monsters.” Roland Martin is the best. He shows us that every fisherman has their moments
Roland says “ Come out with your fins up” or I’ll throw the Spro frog 🐸!
Roland’s external, internal monologue is one of my favorite things on yt. Been watching since the early 90’s, taught me everything I know.
I need to try that senko back up trick!
I’m sick of losing big fish on frogs.
I’m listening Rolland!! Thanks for the advice sir!
I used to miss them all the time on frogs until I specified a frog set up. 1st key: 7' medium heavy to heavy action rod on STRAIGHT BRAID, 7.5:1 ratio reel. 2nd key: LET THEM TAKE IT FOR 3 SECONDS! 3rd key: Hit em hard and swing SIDEWAYS. No kidding I have like a 90% frog hook up ratio now.
I’ve increased my hooking percentage by using only Lunker Hunt Combat Frogs. Softer rubber. More hook sets!
Watching Roland Martin lose two bass in a row makes me feel way better about starting out and losing fish. Caught 10 bass this week hoping for a 20 bass week next week! I’ve learned so much from this channel it feels like I’m learning how to dunk from Micheal Jordan
Mr. Martin, It was a pleasure hearing you rep my home state. I've been a fan all my life and seeing you drill bass up here is awesome
Love fishing in MN. We were there about a week after this and absolutely slayed them in the Walker, MN area. Love seeing you fish these lakes and validate our fishing techniques up there!
Roland, sir. I love your energy! I hear your voice and excitement in my head every time a big one gets on the line
One of my local lakes is absolutely overgrown with emergent vegetation but has lots of big bass. Perfect timing! Thanks Roland!
This guy and that senko. I have never caught a bass on one, I suck… he’s the best
Awesome video footage to prove your advice and knowledge. That was a big largemouth for up North. Thank you for passing your experience along.
The back up worm trick has helped catch alot of missed fish. Thx Roland
Roland drops his rods like he doesn’t care if they fall in the water or not 😂
What a legend…thanks Roland with out your videos I never would have thought to catch fish with lures and soft plastics or think it was possible…I was fairly new to fishing 3 years ago 😊
I’ve fished new lakes in Wisconsin for first time that ended up being filled with weeds and never thought to use a back up like that. Great footage to prove your point. I’ll keep a senko on a spinning rod in the future. Thanks for sharing the knowledge, Roland!
Dude turkey hunts!
Roland is the GOAT!!!🙌 🙌🙌
Rojas @ clearlake!!👏👏
Great peaceful fishing day👍
as a minnesotan -- couldn’t agree more with roland’s sentiment. the freshwater fishing here is second to none in the world
I love your passion for the outdoors and I watch you every morning before work!
You are the man!! Awesome video.
Roland, you are the greatest!
Thank you so much!
It's a pleasure to watch you catching the bass.
Roland I really like the way you fish and how you explain you fishing , keep it up!👍👍😎
THANK YOU TEACHER !!!! I love your teaching me a lot of new ways and everything!!!! Ur great help and advice I like that !!!! Keep up the awesome work you do !! For us new fisherman and new to fish !!
Ive really enjoyed your channel and the things you share and places you fish. I know not having a camera guy is tough but man, I would love to see more of the strikes and rod tip presentation. Again, great stuff Roland.
Donnie, Va.
son! great reminder.... BACKUP SENKO! i miss so many frogbites, but forget to go back w a senko ! now i will
Awesome stuff Roland. Really enjoyed will use on a new lake
Awesome technique
Hey Connecticut finally got a good mention Lmao.
Grew up watching Roland Martin , Bill Dance and Jimmy Houston as little kid, definitely learned a lot from them and it's what got me into bass fishing!! I'll be 48 this March and still love bass fishing , especially froggin!! Thanks and tight lines!!
Thank you for sharing your information. God bless you and your family...🙏❤🙏❤🙏😊🙂😀
Great tip about the backup senko! When bass miss it’s like they’re embarrassed and won’t try again. I’m taking that one out on the water tomorrow!
Your tips are great Roland. I am from Port St. Lucie Florida, we’ve got a ton of great bass spots but they are mostly very weedy
Excellent as always , frog bite and back up misses with the senko. Might ought to start to thinking about new butt seat pedestal though, hydraulics gone on that one. Excellent video Roland!
Roland calls his shot - “Watch this”
BOOM, bass on!
Oh had em your the best Roland
You're the King. Love ya and hope to meet you.
love it. If only i had a dollar for ever time roland says....Im a power fisherman. Get em roland!
Great video buddy
Love the Roland release 😂
Amazing tip the back up cinco
nice tips roland.. gonna cut my liter on the one rod and always keep a weightless on backup now ...- Ben
What an inspiration
Learning from the master
that's the deal, Roland !
I needed this video a few months ago with the damn cottage i went to haha, horrible weeds.
Game Over!!! Get ‘em!
U the Man!!
I think you got 'em.
"More power" that's my kind of spirit!
I've lost so many nice size bass on frogs. But still love to fish frogs 🐸.
Game on game over off yo another lake stay tuned
I am up here in central Minn fishing the same way. They just miss on the frog but if I have enough room I use the whopper plopper and nail em. But of course the pike like it more so you have to use a wire leader otherwise you are leaving lots of money out there!
Thanks Roland for another great video. When we fished together in March, I told you how I learned to fish a senko from your videos about 5 years ago. Since then, over 70% of all my bass have been caught on a senko. I try other lures first but always end up with the senko. All my 4-6 lb bass caught on senkos were on the 7” senko instead of the 5”. Do you ever fish the 7”?
If you want BIG bass for a show in Minnesota you do this by fishing in southern Minnesota in the Mankato area.
That's a big old bass son!
Do you ever come to Massachusetts to fish it would be great to see you here
Let's go 🐟
I love how he just kinda plop’s em back for the release lmao
Take some pliers and bend the hooks a few degrees up on them frogs. Guarantee you won’t loose them bass like that again.
Great video buddy, can you do a video on how to fish a Yamamoto flapping hog, please help
Roland Martin rulez!
ROLAND MARTIN IS THE MAN!
Damn..
Mr.Martin how many rods should I carry with me when I fish?
can you do a video on the Yamamoto flapping hog
Roland can promote a dead skunk
Most of my problems are hydrilla.
Nice example of having 2 presentations fast.
Back- up deal lol
Do u let the senko sink to the bottom?
They always bite on the drop. Yes.
U throw the back up in the spot u missed the frog, or passed it and swim it to the spot?
A lot of observation and instinct needed there. He can drop them damn near in their mouths at this point.
My back up which is 99% guaranteed is THE THANG now if you HMU I teach how to rig it
I know your living the life, but that new " tin" boats just too damned noisy, every time you set your rods down.
First
I was wondering if you know who Mike Miler is???
