  • Behind Bars Season 4 - Episode 1: Manila City Jail | 4K Prison Documentary
Behind Bars Season 4 - Episode 2: Lepoglava, Croatia: • Behind Bars: Lepoglava...
New Bilibid Prison is the main prison in the Philippines. One part of this mega-prison complex is Camp Sampaguita - one of the toughest prisons in the world.
Designed to hold one thousand five hundred offenders, currently, there are more than eight thousand incarcerated. That means up to ninety hardened criminals crammed into twenty-five square meter cells, half of them sleeping on the bare ground. Hygienic conditions are catastrophic.
Despite to staffing problems, each wing is staffed by just two guards per shift. Two guards for more than two thousand prisoners. To keep things in check, they count the prisoners four times a day. Extremely strict rules apply throughout the prison.
Anyone who violates them ends up in so-called Bartolina - isolation detention. The maximum stay is four weeks, with no upper limit. Every week, new inmates arrive, making the situation even worse.
One of the new arrivals is thirty-five-year-old Rondell. He has been convicted of attempted murder - an unpremeditated act of jealousy. Rondell was living a normal life until two years ago. No gangs, no drugs. Then he got into a fight and almost killed a rival - a rash act that changed his life completely. He now shares a cell with dangerous criminals, gang members, thugs, and thieves.
As the new guy, Rondell is at the bottom of the pecking order. He has to do the most unpleasant and strenuous tasks, like carrying one hundred liters of water every day and being on watch during the night. Meanwhile, Rondell's thoughts turn almost exclusively to his family and children, whom he hasn't seen in more than two years. It is uncertain when he will be able to hug them again.

I once live in camp sampaguita compound as my relatives are correction officers and they have there housings in the area also i remember before it was not hard to enter sampaguita especially RDC compound where i usually get my haircuts and play basketball with inmates.

19:47 the narrator says " just 500 grams of rice per prisoner per day" as if it is not Sufficient. As a chef This is a total b.s. statement since a single portion of rice for a side dish is about 50-60 grams, and if its the main dish, 100 grams is mpre than enough. So they get 5x that amount. And we are talking american servings which are far larger than most countries. But in the phillipines specifically , 325 grams is the average amount someone eats So while it may not be the best tasting, looking food its more than enough provided the inmates actually get that 500 grams every day. I highly doubt that is the case though. But screw the food, the sleeping and bathroom situation is insane and nasty.
