Well done! Ivar or Imar is a fascinating Norse Sea King. Very opportunistic and brave. Opportunistic in the sense that because Ireland didn't have hard cash wealth that England did as far as large quantities of coinage (silver & gold). Ivar & the Vikings did the age old custom like Caesar did in Gaul just sell the people! The Norse turned Dublin into a large slave trading town.

Great presentation! Very informative. At some point in future, would be very interested in your analysis of the Norsemen who mixed with the Gaels in Wester.n Scotland and the Hebrides, and the emergence of warlord Somerled and the various Scottish clans who descended from him.

@@AlexIlesUK Thanks Alex. It is quite an interesting history. Somerled (1113-1164) has been established as being of Norse genetic (y chromosome) origin. His descendants became Lords of the Isles. He is father of the Clan MacDonald, Clan MacDougall and several other septs.

My fathers side of the family are direct descendents of Ímair ( Uí Ímair ) , the Viking King of Dublin and Northumbria. McCaffrey means son of Gofraidh , who is Ímairs father. He sailed to Scotland to assist his father (Gofraidh) in battle and help his brother (Halfdan) raid Dumbarton Rock. My mothers side of the family are clan Campbell of Lothiann in Scotland. They were one of the biggest clans in Scotland and probably the most hated. They are infamous for deceiving and murdering an abnormally large amount of members of the clan MacDonald in the middle of the night. They ruled most of SW Scotland when Ímair raided Dumbarton Rock. And one of the Campbells (female) lived in Dumbarton Castle when the raid occurred. So my fathers family raided Dumbarton Castle while my mothers family lived there. And 1,110 years later my parents got married. Go figure.

like the video but having that actors face plastered large behind you does nothing for the video. We want maps large panning across the kingdoms. Maps and boundaries are super important for gaining understandings of a hugely territorial time.
