    Brooks Hyperion Max
    26/34/8mm
    Brooks Hyperion Max2
    32/38/6mm
    Forefoot stack increased by 6mm / heel stack increased by 4mm.
    Offset changed from 8mm -> 6mm.
    Weight: Max1(213g) -> Max2(258g)
    Increased by 45g.
    The midsole has been changed to DNA FLASH v2, and the cushioning has improved.
    As the height increased, the bounce also improved.
    The 45g weight increase is very disappointing

      Weight is not everything. Look at the prime x strung 2. It weighs more but is propulsive don’t judge things by weight alone.

    A similar shoe that excites me even more and is more budget friendly is the Topo Spector 2 coming out in August. Same type of geometry as the Max 2 but with no plate. The midsole is 100% pebax. 37/32 stack with a 5mm drop which is similar to the Max 2, but way lighter at only 7.6 oz. in a size 9. Retail is only $165. This is a more cushion long run version of the Topo Cyclone 2 and the Cyclone 2 in its category which includes the Brooks Hyperion imo shreds the competition.

      How does the cyclone 2 feel in terms of stability? I seem to do poorly with shoes with high or soft midsoles. I currently run with a Mizuno Wave Rider 25 and Saucony Triumph 20, and even though I like the energy return of the Triumph 20 midsole I seem to run better with the firmer and more stable Wave Rider. I’ve also got a Puma Velocity Nitro 2 and to me the midsole feels pretty dead and the heel feels mushy and a bit unstable. Great Puma Grip outsole though makes it a good trail shoe.

      @@iakona23
      I supinate or underpronate so I'm not the best person to ask when it comes to stability. However, I can compare them to the Puma Volocity Nitro 2 because I own them as well. Their polar opposites. The Cyclone 2 is much more minimalistic more like the Puma Nitro Liberate but with a wider toebox. Unlike the Volocity 2, the Cyclone 2 is very flexable and has a late stage rocker for added toe spring. The all peba midsole is more responsive than the Nitro injected midsole of the PNV2. It also has much more ground feel where the more effort you put into the shoe the more your rewarded. Topo gives a 30 day trial period where you can't lose. Return them used if your unsatisfied for a full refund. They run long so go down a half size.

      @iakona23 Před 14 dny

      @@jefreywith1f924 Thank you. Fantastic reply. I think I will give the Cyclone 2 a try. For whatever reason I don’t seem to do as well with shoes with high stack height or very soft midsoles. I also did well with the On Running Cloudstratus 2, but that shoe was rather firm and stable. Believe it or not, I can actually run in a Vivobarefoot Primus shoe by adding a Peba insole (Boomerang footbed) for some needed cushioning.

    • @iakona23
      @iakona23 Před 14 dny

      @@jefreywith1f924 the midsole on the Velocity Nitro 2 is pretty dead feeling on hard pavement. It reminds me a bit of the ASICS Cumulus 23 except with a less stable heel . But it feels ok on dirt trails and it’s helped by the excellent Pumagrip outsole.

  • @jefreywith1f924
    @jefreywith1f924 Před 25 dny +4

    At $180, Brooks could have brought the weight down to something more respectable and more responsive by using Pebax foam instead of EVA foam. The Saucony Endorphin Speed has a plastic plate and uses Pebax and retails for $10 less and is much lighter. Plus, Pebax performs a lot better in cold and hot weather than EVA.

    Great review, I found the Hyperion Max 1 a bit long and narrow in the toebox... Is V2 wider in the toebox and midfoot?

    Hyperion 2 becomes the successor of Hyperion Max v1

    • @jefreywith1f924
      @jefreywith1f924 Před 25 dny

      No. Not exactly. The geometries are different. If it's like its predecessor, Hyperion 2 will have a more traditional flat type more geometry with some flex compared to the more rigid curvature rocker geometry that rolls you forward that's found on the Max 1.

      @DarkPa1adin
      Yes, Hyperion 2 will have nearly the same stack height and drop as the Hyperion Max 1, but the distinctive difference is that very pronounced rocker the HM1 has that the H2 doesn't have as far as the previews suggest.For me, as a forefoot striker who lands on the balls of my feet, the rocker is situated perfectly in a spot where I am able to roll quickly onto my toes as I push off. It's all good because now I can buy more of the HM1 at a substantial discount.

    can you confirm if the 30-24mm stack height is the total stack (outsole + midsole + insole) or only the midsole?

    • @jefreywith1f924
      @jefreywith1f924 Před 25 dny +2

      The 30/24 is not the total stack height. Brooks measures only the midsole height to calculate stack height. Outsole height is not added. Not sure if insole height is added. The true total stack height for the Max 2 is 36/30.

    • @aristodiga82
      @aristodiga82 Před 25 dny

      @@jefreywith1f924 yeah, I guess that's right. Insoles are usually 3-5mm, and outsole rubber thickness for road shoes are about 2-3mm..
