    I worked at Boeing on 8 of those jetfoils as a test crew member to get them certified for coast guard. sailed 8 hours a day for three months a piece on these boats in Puget Sound, San juan islands, and the straits between the U.S. and CANADA. It was a blast can stand and drink coffee and not spill a drop at speed. Those ships can turn on a dime and give you nine cents in change

      How does these ships perform in (for example 3 meter) high waves?

      They can sail in Beaufort 4 conditions easily 12 ft swells when they got their around 16 ft you could hear and feel them slap on the bottom of the hull😮

    There was one on a swiss lake I rode as a kid. In 2012 I rode one from St. Peterburg to Peterhof.
    Quite unique experience riding on a hydrofoil, especially the moment it slowly starts to lift out of the water.

    In heavy sea condition, onboard a jetfoil is a best choice, it can keep stable and high speed sailing.

    having ridden on one, I can recommend the speed and smooth ride.

    The Royal Navy had one of these (Modified of course). HMS Speedy served with the RN from 79 to 82 before being sold off to the Hong Kong Ferry company and flew as Lilau to the end of her days.

      Unfortunately no. Only regular hulled ships and catamarans.
      Most likely a big reason these aren't used for the route is due to the noise.

    Boeing. You better stick to the water or earth. Your air stuff sucks. You’ve got astronauts stuck in space on your junk star liner right now!

    Why did they disappear? What’s the reason? Too expensive to manufacture?

    • @AviationLiveYT
      @AviationLiveYT  Před rokem +1

      They are simply too old, and in fact they didn't disappear but just are used elsewhere in the world (asia)

    • @johnpaulmierz6978
      @johnpaulmierz6978 Před rokem

      They are nothing more than razor blades in the water. Who do you think shut Boeing down from making them. We call them today as eco-terrorist.

      Most are 40 plus years old now and being retired. A few in Japan are still working.

      Probably because they're thirsty as hell I believe. Yes they're substantially faster than ships but the extra fuel consumed isn't always worth it. Also, with the emergence of high speed catamaran ferries their use is even harder to justify. Just as many innovative vehicle technologies of past days, they're too inefficient, I swear small nuclear reactors could easily revive them all weird vehicles, be them giant hidrofoils, ekranoplanes or whatever
