    • @wjrneo2
      @wjrneo2 Před 4 lety

In terms of a used RS vs a new ST (which we don't get in America :()
Used RS every day of the week. Because its used, depreciation has already set in, which increases the performance value of the car. And then there is the handling with the AWD system.
The AWD system in the RS is unmatched by any other AWD system in any hot-hatch. I have never been in a car that simply knows how to put the power down no matter how ham fisted you are with the shifter. No car I've ever driven, or been a passenger in can bomb through back roads at speeds that are frankly terrifying.
So what kind of negatives do we have? Fuel Economy. These numbers are US MPG btw. The RS is a pig in comparison to the same generation ST. Using data from Fuelly, the average Focus RS comes in around 21mpg, while the ST comes in around 26mpg. Its 5mpg worse on average for most people. This mirrors my own experience with my 2013 Focus ST, vs both my 2016 Focus RS (RIP) and 2017 Focus RS (long live the king).
The ride. The RS had no need to ride so rough. Its not the spring rate that makes it terrible, its the damping, its just crap. The car needs a higher quality damper and the cheap dual rate dampers were just not worth. I would have rather seen a single rate non-adjustable damper, and a more expensive mag-ride option.
The RS is just "more" of everything, when money is equal, the ST is a foolish purchase in comparison.

It's amazing that the theft issue hasn't been fixed by now. A lot of car manufacturers are massively complacent about this. Keyless entry systems have been a gift to thieves - I have gone back to a dirty great big steering rod locked on the steering wheel, which is pretty inconvenient every time you get out of the car. Plus I never park it in the street . Why is it so hard to make a really bullet proof steering column lock and an immobiliser that cannot be got round- especially when a lot of these cars cost so much now - I feel like Mr Bean, taking the steering wheel off his Mini , when I park it.

I have had the new ford focus ST since October 2019 with the performance pack, love the drive. But I have had problems with the lighting on the car since I got it, the auto full beam that the car turns on when you enter an area where there is little lighting, good idea but they do not dip when a car is coming towards you, or when you are behind someone else, thus you blind other road users. The car as been back to the deals 4 times so far with this problem and they still have not fixed it, the other problem I have is with the keyless entry, after 3 weeks of owning the car the passenger side keyless entry stopped working, and now the sensor on the driver's side is only working every now and again. Would love to hear if anyone else is having this issue?

Friggin hell Archie wasn’t even in the video & still got pelters from Tony. The Focus RS is a future classic so if you can afford one & have it as a second car it’s gonna make you money over time. You only have to look at past Ford RS cars to see that.

Peter McElvogue - Hope so Peter. There are more of the mk3 as opposed to earlier mk’s so that could keep a lid on prices also heard some worrying issues re the 2.3 ecoboost engine even after the head gasket recall.. I’ve got a 2016 RS and it’s awesome as a weekender. Hopefully the mechanical issues get ironed out and your prediction comes good! 😅

Oh dear. An ancient vlog on the ST, which. I have not commented on. 🙄 "This RS has everything the MK4 ST has"??? 🤣 "Torque steer in the MK4 ST"? 😵 I owned an MG Montego Turbo. I know what torque steer is and that Montego was a later model which had been revised. No the MK4 ST does not "suffer" torque steer. "Focus ST being a blended in warm hatchback" ???? Just how many miles had you driven the car and that was your takeaway? Even stock the ST was the only car that could take it to the Type R !!! See the autocar head to head.
Known two RS owners. The first one flogged his years ago. He just loved my ST. The second thought he was in heaven when he acquired an RS with a map. It blew its head gasket. He hated the whole experience.
The MK4 ST IS the pinnacle of Ford performance hot hatches.
PS "I would have an RS over an ST [that is why I am selling mine]"
Good vid from the accountants perspective re the financing. Oh how things have changed though in the past two years. I was lucky, paid cash for my Orange Fury Mk4 ST.
Two concessions on my part, however. Had to put Maxton's finest on mine as the stock car just does not shout ST. Also and I feel very sorry for Ford executives who thought the MK4 RS was going to be brought out, my ST and for many of us owners, the Mountune maps or others out there are obligatory to make the most of the detuned 2.3L four pot Ford put in the stock car. Ford would have uprated the outputs to at least the on paper 330PS and 515NM I have had they known at the the time a MK4 RS would not be brought to market.

James Hedges with a head gasket, still not good enough, a closed deck block is a proper solution, with that being said I’m not sure if they learned from their mistakes , seeing how the 2.3 is now in the ST , exhaust back pressure and the open deck is the Achilles heal .

@@bones0184 subaru impreza sti, golf R, m135i, civic type R and even the evo 10 all have an open deck design. It's the best way to manage cooling in a small turbo charged engine with a lot of power.

the traction debate doesn't make sense to me. I would rather have grip and go instead of getting the fake sense of fun when you are just not getting traction and not going anywhere almost. If it was rear-wheel drive that would be a different story.
