This piano was taken in part exchange for a Steinway 170. It has a fine tone. As it was owned by a professional pianist, we were surprised to find how varied the touch was, from about 40 to 60 grammes down-weight, making it difficult to play soft passages evenly.
MARKING THE HAMMERS: This is useful after refacing as it will show up if any hammers are refaced at an angle. It's vital that all strings are struck simultaneously, otherwise it's better not to reface at all as the tone will sound strange when one string is hit later than the others.

Your videos are NEVER too long! They're always highly interesting and enjoyable! I only wish your shop was closer to my home here in northern California. (It would be a "bit of a commute" to visit your fine establishment. Sadly.)

I think everyone watching this video appreciates you sharing your knowledge about preparing a re-conditioned piano for re-sale. You speak with honesty and demonstrate your level of expertise. It would make purchasing a secondhand grand piano feel less risky! I'd certainly feel more at ease. Better equipped to decide and make a choice for a good piano upgrade...I currently have a Yamaha GC1, less than 15yrs old. However, it has served me very well. I'll probably be ready to buy, and maybe go up a notch or two...soon as I sell my house! :D

Simply fascinating, Really nice video. The longer and in depth videos are excellent ! In this video its tone sounds similar to the U3H.

Knight quality is evident from the fully gold painted frame - often just the top half is 'gilded'
    - This has a lovely warm tone, just the extreme bass a tad 'tubby'
    - But on the hammers getting soft with playing: I was under the impression they toughened with use?
(Accepting initially the contact zone toughens - then as it wears to a broader contact = softer strike point?)

Hello, thank you for your helpful comments as always. I think the hammers on this one had been voiced to be mellower before we bought it. There is evidence of more toning than usual. Marcus
